Chapter 41 Li Gui Meets Li Kui
Chapter 41 Li Gui Meets Li Kui
Well known.
George Stacy was only the deputy commissioner of the 13th Precinct in New York, and above him, of course, was the commissioner.
The person calling at that moment was none other than Deppon Jones, the commissioner of the New York 13th Precinct, who was also George Stacy's former boss.
George stared at the phone held by the officer for a while, his expression shifting between anger and uncertainty, before finally taking the call.
"Director..."
Before George could speak, an elderly voice came from the other end of the phone, interrupting him.
"Listen, George, hand this case over to them. I know what you're planning to do, and I understand how you feel right now, but this matter involves unknown monsters and is beyond our jurisdiction. This is not something we should be dealing with, and someone above has already spoken. Even if you want to argue, you can't win against them."
George, somewhat resentful, replied, "Chief, this is New York, we are the NYPD. What is it that we can't handle?"
As the economic center of the federal government, the NYPD wields considerable power within its own territory, showing no fear even when facing law enforcement agencies like the FBI.
The FBI's strength lies in its vast law enforcement scope, but when it comes to actual law enforcement power, they may not be much stronger than local police departments.
It is precisely because of this that George possesses the courage to stand up to the FBI.
Upon hearing George's words, Director Deppon on the other end of the phone said wearily, "George, you should know that there have been a lot of unusual cases lately, and the federal government is paying close attention. After the news came that you killed a monster, the heads of more than five departments, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, called me, and the number is still increasing. They all want the monster's corpse that you killed. So we can't keep ownership of this case, and we don't have any research departments in our department. Keeping the monster's corpse is useless. I'm retiring in six months, George, and I don't want to cause any more trouble at this time."
At this point, Chief Deppon paused for a moment before saying, "George, you are someone I trained and who is also my chosen successor for the 13th Precinct. Trust me, give them this case. I won't harm you."
As he finished speaking, George gradually fell silent.
Meanwhile, Grant Ward, standing opposite him, had a new level of smirk on his face.
Just as he was about to have his men take over the scene, several more cars bearing the FBI logo drove into the area.
What happened?
Another FBI vehicle?
Could it be that those guys on the other side called for reinforcements?
When George saw the FBI vehicles, his already grim expression darkened even further.
But when he looked up, he was astonished to find that Grant Ward, who was sitting opposite him, did not show any joy on his face; instead, his expression turned ugly.
George even saw a hint of embarrassment on that annoying guy's face.
Ok?
What's going on?
soon.
A group of people got out of those FBI cars.
One of the men, who looked rather overweight, got out of the car, opened his arms, and walked towards George with a smile.
"Hey George, long time no see?"
Looking at the overly friendly fat man, George frowned and said, "Jaquin?"
George recognized the portly man; he was a veteran FBI agent with whom he had worked several times before.
Seeing George's expression, the fat man Joaquin put on a hurt look and said, "Hey, buddy, don't look at me like that, I didn't offend you."
George glanced at him and sneered, "You haven't offended me, but someone in your FBI has."
As he spoke, George gave Grant Ward and his group a cold look.
As an FBI agent, Joaquin Phoenix was very good at reading people, and he immediately understood George's unspoken meaning.
He frowned slightly and carefully examined Grant Ward and his group, saying, "You're also from the FBI, so why haven't I seen you before?"
Grant Ward replied calmly, "We are a secret operations unit."
Joaquin sneered, "Nonsense. I'm the operations director of the FBI's New York office. All FBI operations in New York require my approval. How could I possibly be unaware of such a secret operations unit?"
After saying that, Joaquin gestured to the FBI agents behind him and said, "Go up and check these people's identification. I suspect they are impersonating FBI agents."
"Yes, supervisor."
Upon seeing Joaquin, several people indeed emerged from behind and walked towards them.
Grant Ward, who had been trying to maintain his composure, finally changed his expression.
After gritting his teeth, Grant Ward approached Joaquin and said, "Manager Joaquin, may I speak to you in private?"
·······
A few minutes later, after Grant Ward's unsuccessful attempts to call for help, he had no choice but to leave the scene in disgrace with the group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents disguised as FBI agents, under Joaquin's firm stance.
A fake meets a real person.
It's one thing for them to operate under the FBI name on ordinary days, but considering the annual "naming fee" that S.H.I.E.L.D. pays them, the FBI usually turns a blind eye. However, once their missions clash or conflict arise, the FBI won't tolerate S.H.I.E.L.D.'s actions.
After shooing Grant Ward and his gang away in a sorry state, Joaquin laughed and said to George, "Hey buddy, since I got rid of those guys, promise me you won't let those imposters ruin our friendship, okay?"
"Come on, aren't you here to steal my case too?" George rolled his eyes.
Joaquin shrugged and said helplessly, "Well, I can't help it. Who is this monster that our chief specifically asked you to kill? But I can assure you that as long as it doesn't involve secrets, I can share any further information with you unconditionally."
George's expression softened considerably after hearing Joaquin's assurance.
You can't hit someone who's smiling.
At least Joaquin's attitude towards him was much more comfortable than that of the arrogant Grant Ward from before.
Thinking of the group that had slunk away earlier, George asked, "Who exactly were those guys? They were acting under the FBI's name, and you just let them go so easily? Since when has the FBI become so easy to talk to?"
Joaquin's expression turned somewhat grim as he thought that if he hadn't arrived in time, the case that their director had worked so hard to secure would have been snatched away by those bastards from S.H.I.E.L.D.
"I'm sorry, George, I can't say where they're from, but I'll report this to the chief and have him deal with those guys."
"You can't tell me either?"
George gave Joaquin a surprised look.
