Chapter 33 Why is he so skilled?
"Lint, the Elixir of Healing isn't so easy to find!" Snape decided to help Rice change his bad habit and stop him from using the Elixir of Healing all the time. It's not practical to prescribe medicine with that stuff.
It's not that we can't afford the Qu'e fruit, but rather that bezoar is more cost-effective.
It's like someone getting sick and the doctor prescribing "one small peach from the Heavenly Peach Garden, to be taken after meals." If you could get your hands on a peach from the Heavenly Palace, it could indeed cure the illness, but the question is, could you even get one?
It's possible.
"Professor Snape, Rice sold a Curse-Removing Fruit to my father during the summer vacation, so it's still possible to find it!" Daphne raised her hand and said loudly.
Snape's body stiffened almost imperceptibly. He believed Daphne wasn't lying, because he had heard about the Greengrass family's situation; her father, Henry Greengrass, had also approached him, hoping he could concoct an extremely complex potion for his daughter.
So Rice really does have the Elixir of Dispelling Misfortune!
Upon hearing this news, Snape felt a flicker of excitement: this was an extremely rare Blessing Fruit, and if he could get his hands on one to study, he could probably develop several new potions...
Unfortunately, he couldn't bring himself to ask Rice for the seeds of the Elixir of Immortality.
"Alright, class is about to begin." Snape walked to the blackboard with a blank expression and began to write furiously on it.
Malfoy practically wore his disappointment on his face: Rice had even withstood Professor Snape's targeting, so what could he possibly do?
Today's lesson is about preparing a simple remedy for scabies.
Snape wrote down the ingredients and steps needed to make the potion on the blackboard, explained the key points of the operation again, and then divided the students into pairs to start the experiment.
"Dried nettles, snake fangs, slugs, porcupine quills..." Standing in front of the common materials cabinet in the potion classroom, Rice placed the potion materials she had selected from the cabinet into the box held by Daphne.
"Before making the potion, you must gather all the ingredients before you can begin." While looking for the ingredients, he didn't stop talking and began to explain the details and key points of potion preparation to Daphne.
Rice wasn't trying to show off; it was completely instinctive. He had repeated this action countless times a thousand years ago, to the point that it had become a conditioned reflex.
"You must pay attention to the quality of raw materials. Do not use rotten materials—even if only a corner is damaged, my advice is to throw them all away."
"If possible, we need to ensure that the materials used are from the same batch. I don't know if you understand—"
"..."
Snape, standing not far away, observed coldly and listened quietly to Rhys's words. After listening for a while, he was surprised to find that the boy had hit the nail on the head.
He didn't seem like a freshman; he seemed more like a seasoned apothecary who had spent over a decade working in a potions shop after graduation.
He's very knowledgeable in potions and possesses the extremely rare Elixir of Dispelling Calamity. Just who is this kid, Ras Lint? I've never heard of any potions family with the surname Lint.
Rice returned to his seat with Daphne and the potion ingredients, then weighed the dried nettles, crushed the snake fangs, and boiled the tentacled slugs...
During this time, Professor Snape walked around the classroom, dragging his long black cloak, observing and correcting the young wizards' movements. He was extremely strict with his students' behavior, and almost everyone was criticized by him, except for Rhys and Malfoy.
Malfoy was granted immunity because his father, Lucius Malfoy, had a good relationship with Snape. Rice, on the other hand, was granted immunity because his movements were truly impeccable; while others were still frantically dividing the materials, his potion was almost ready.
He even had the leisure to explain the key points to Daphne at each step! Snape felt that even if he did it himself without using a wand, it wouldn't be much different.
"Did you understand? If there's enough time before get out of class ends, I'll let you do it alone once." Rice spoke to Daphne like a real teacher—he was too fast and completed the experiment by himself, which was not good for Daphne's growth.
"Mmm." Daphne nodded repeatedly, her parchment filled with notes.
Suddenly, a plume of acidic green smoke billowed from the underground classroom, followed by a loud hissing sound. Simo's cauldron had somehow melted, and the medicine inside spilled onto the stone floor, flowing everywhere.
Snape's pupils dilated suddenly, and his blood pressure began to rise, but before he could react, Rhys had already pulled out his wand, waved it on the ground, and the spilled potion was rolled into a ball, which he then manipulated to throw into an abandoned cauldron in the corner of the classroom.
The operation was swift and fluid; most of the young wizards didn't even see what happened before Rice solved the problem. Only the twisted cauldron, the corroded table, and the stained floor silently testified to the recent anomaly.
Why is this kid so skilled?
Although confused, Snape reacted swiftly, roaring, "Idiot! You put the porcupine quills in before you took the pot off the fire, didn't you?"
After giving Seamus a severe dressing-down, he ordered Seamus's partner, Dean Thomas, to take Seamus, who was covered in medicine and grimacing in pain, to the infirmary.
After handling the emergency, he looked at Rice and praised his swift actions without reservation, adding five points to Slytherin's score. Of course, it was only right to deduct points from Gryffindor, who had made the mistake.
"Everyone, you must write a paper a foot long, describing the preparation process and key points of scabies potion, to be handed in before class next week." After leaving a "plenty of homework," Snape announced the end of get out of class and kicked all the young wizards out of the Potions classroom.
He needed to hurry up and deal with the potions and trash left behind by the young wizards, put the unused potion ingredients back in their place, and replenish the supplies needed for the next class. The tables and floors that Seamus had burned also needed his repair.
Only after he has finished dealing with all of this will he have time to eat lunch, which may be the reason for his bad temper.
However, none of this concerned the young wizards after class. The Gryffindor wizards had no more classes after those two Potions lessons, while the Slytherin students still had to attend a Herbalism class.
They stepped onto the stone steps leading out of the underground classroom and hurried away from the area. Even without Snape's expulsion, they would have left as quickly as possible.
Rice also overheard the Weasley boy comforting Potter by mentioning his brother's example, and then reminding him to visit Hagrid.
"Are you free this weekend? I think I can teach you some spells over the weekend." Rice calculated the time and set a time to teach Daphne spells.
