Chapter 89: The Secret Chamber Adventure - What exactly is Hagrid's "Drug"?
He could have avoided this.
If he had focused a little more on dealing with Grindelwald back then, perhaps that little Ravenclaw girl wouldn't have died.
Hey--
This is yet another instance of his dereliction of duty.
The sudden look of disappointment in the professor's eyes did not escape Irving's notice.
Even the greatest wizard cannot predict everything.
There are also troubles he cannot solve.
"Professor," Owen gently squeezed Dumbledore's hand, "let's keep going!"
The slight touch in his hand startled the old headmaster from his self-reproach. He glanced down at Owen, nodded slightly, and then a smile returned to his face.
"Yes, people always have to keep moving forward."
—The two walked side by side, their shadows gradually merging into the surrounding darkness, making it impossible to distinguish one from the other for a moment.
We traveled for about twenty minutes.
Suddenly, a wall appeared in front of me.
Fawkes, glowing like a searchlight, flew off Dumbledore's shoulder.
The light illuminated the entire void.
This allows one to see clearly the statues on the wall.
Two intertwined snakes are carved on the wall, their eyes large, sparkling emeralds, serving as a door lock and encircling the entire wall.
"Incredible! There is such a vast space beneath the castle." Professor Dumbledore stood on the irregular, cavernous ground, looking up at the giant serpent gate on the wall with great interest.
"It must be some natural cave in the mountains beneath Hogwarts." Owen looked around at the bizarre stalactites and stalagmites, which were not magical creations.
"Hmm." The principal nodded, and then made a hissing sound.
Suddenly, the two giant pythons seemed to come alive, and they slowly slid to the sides.
The stone wall then separated.
Inside was a long, dimly lit room.
Many stone pillars are carved with coiled and intertwined serpents, and a towering ceiling supports the dissolving darkness high above.
The gloomy environment cast long, eerie shadows across the room, which was filled with a mysterious, verdant atmosphere.
In the distance stood a statue as tall as the room, pressed against the dark wall behind it.
It was an old, monkey-like face, with a sparse, long beard that almost reached the hem of a wizard's robe carved from stone, and two large, gray feet standing on the smooth floor of the room.
Salazar Slytherin.
Looking at the magnificent statue in the distance, Dumbledore's expression gradually turned serious.
Although he lived in the castle for nearly a century, many of its secrets remained unknown to him.
"Irving, step aside."
He released Irving's hand and shielded him behind him.
Having learned from Tom's notes that the monster he was about to face was a basilisk, Dumbledore had to become cautious.
"Clang clang"
After a loud cry, Phoenix Fox soared into the sky.
It was about the size of a crane, and its call sounded like music.
It drags a glittering golden tail.
It seems they're already prepared for battle?
"Slurp!"
Irving silently took out a pair of sunglasses from his pocket and put them on.
Just in case, even if you see the basilisk's eyes, you'll only be petrified.
Gazing at the phoenix flying in the hall, his mouth was practically watering.
Wow!
This is truly the cutest pet ever!
As a Hufflepuff, he really wanted one!
"The statue, Albus!"
The sorting cap has an appropriate opening.
Professor Dumbledore had also noticed the statue, which seemed to blend into the wall, except for a gap in its mouth.
"Open~"
The strange Parseltongue language came again, and then Slytherin's huge stone mouth slowly opened.
It grew larger and larger, like a tiny black hole opening up.
Suddenly, it felt like something was moving inside the statue's mouth.
The rustling sound of skin rubbing against the stone wall.
It lingered in their ears.
"Bang!"
The loud crash made the entire hall tremble, and the splashing water reflected the monster's silhouette.
A huge snake, over thirty feet long, entirely green, with a fluorescent glow characteristic of venomous creatures.
It was as thick as an oak tree, its upper body stretched high towards the sky, and its flat, large head stared intently at any scoundrel who dared to disturb its sleep.
Professor Dumbledore closed his eyes. As a top wizard, he knew all too well that sometimes what one sees is not the truth.
He could pinpoint the basilisk's location and its attacks simply by observing the flow of magic in the air.
"Oh! It looks really fierce! It's a pity you can't open your eyes to see." The professor said in a singing tone, his Sorting Hat hanging from his waist.
Unfortunately, its triumph did not last long.
"Clang! Clang!!!" With a sound, Fawkes in the sky, like a sharp arrow, just like it helped Potter in the original story, pierced the basilisk's eye with its sharp golden beak.
The basilisk, still in the BOSS cutscene, hadn't even reacted when it was jolted awake by a sharp pain. A pool of black blood splattered on the ground, like a poisonous rain!
"Oh no~"
"My legendary pet!" Owen opened his eyes immediately afterward, and upon hearing Fox's cry, he had a bad feeling.
"The professorship was promised, it's mine!"
"I think you could start by training Sirocco," Professor Dumbledore kindly suggested. Then, the Elder Wand was aimed at the crazed basilisk, and a ball of orange-red flame appeared out of thin air, spreading out in a very short time.
They devoured the serpent monster whole.
"No!" Owen quickly interjected, "Raising a basilisk is incredibly difficult! No one has ever succeeded in a thousand years."
"We should capture him alive and hand him over to Hagrid. Maybe we can breed some good specimens."
After all, Hagrid is a ruthless man who can make a human-headed lion-bodied scorpion-tailed beast mate with sixty fire crabs to produce a level 5X explosive-tailed snail.
Who knows what he fed that sphinx to make it so cooperative?
If we hand the Basilisk over to Hagrid, he might be able to raise some powerful magical creatures.
"No—I think it's too dangerous." The professor's expression remained calm, but his tone carried an unquestionable air.
The basilisk is too dangerous for a twelve-year-old wizard like Owen to handle.
Especially since he doesn't speak with a snake-like accent.
"Hiss!"
The high temperature was scorching the basilisk.
This caused it to let out a series of miserable screams, its entire green body shrinking into a ball and trembling violently.
"It's far more powerful than I imagined." The old headmaster glanced at the basilisk that had been burned but wasn't seriously injured, and frowned slightly.
This afternoon I also took some time to watch Fantastic Beasts 2 and 3 again.
Oh, and about this update! We'll still be releasing it tonight, around 8 or 9 PM, three chapters a day!!!
I also recommend a book by a good friend; it's very well written.
Book title: Miss Witch, Please Behave Yourself
[Recommendation]: The original title was "The Taste of a Witch Is Really Good," but I sent it to you for special reasons.
Formal recommendation: What's it like to marry a witch right after transmigrating to another world?
Roy remarked, "Witches taste really good."
