Inside the auditorium, high walls stretched to the ceiling, candles floated in mid-air, and the enchanted ceiling reflected the sky outside.
Orange-red light filled the entire hall.
It shines on everyone.
But they didn't feel warm.
Instead, the entire Great Hall, from the young wizards to the professors, and even the ghosts floating in the air, fell into a deathly silence.
It can drive the Sorting Hat crazy.
Kyrie Irving can be said to be unprecedented and unparalleled.
His conversation with the hat drew the attention of all the professors and young wizards present.
The deans of the three colleges.
The campus staff, including Headmaster Dumbledore, also took notice of him.
However, the smile on the old principal's face faded.
The atmosphere suddenly became serious.
Dumbledore stared at Owen.
He can ignore most of what the little guy says.
Children often speak without thinking, it's not a big deal.
He had even seen Muggle-born wizards whose first reaction upon seeing the Sorting Hat was to grab it and reach inside.
They thought there might be a rabbit inside the hat.
But there were some things he had to take seriously as an Englishman, as a headmaster, as a teacher, and as a Hogwarts student.
This is also why those professors and ghosts are angry.
That is, Owen seems to be questioning Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
He was saying—as if Hogwarts were an evil place specifically for training dark wizards.
"Mr. Sanchez."
The old headmaster slowly rose to his feet with an air of authority and said, "I must correct one of your views."
"What kind of person you want to be is entirely a personal choice."
"The environment can influence a person, but it cannot determine a person."
Behind the main table, Dumbledore, dressed in a purple robe, stood before a large golden chair and whispered in a rather imposing tone.
Anyone who sees a principal like this would probably feel a chill down their spine.
However, Kyrie Irving is definitely not in that category.
He knows Dumbledore far too well.
During his first playthrough, he devoted most of his energy to studying this greatest wizard. Owen knew perfectly well where Dumbledore's bottom line lay as the headmaster.
Even though he dropped out of school in fifth grade and started hanging out with Death Eaters in sixth grade.
Dumbledore still didn't kill him.
Perhaps the old principal didn't think he was beyond redemption.
But it's more likely that Albus in his first playthrough had a more fulfilling life!
After all, Ms. Albus, born in the fertile plains, was an upright, warm-hearted, kind, and gentle woman—a model of virtue.
"But—Principal." Owen was possessed by a stubborn streak, refusing to back down and determined to continue his argument.
"I think you're wrong. Just as a potion grown in a volcano can't withstand the cold, and a potion grown in a glacier can't withstand the heat, a person can't ignore their environment. The environment's influence on people is continuous and deeply rooted."
"Just like if someone stays in a damp place for too long, their bones will develop problems. Don't you think so?"
Irving delivered a devastating blow to Dumbledore.
The extent of the damage was unknown, but Old Deng's lips twitched slightly.
Ah!
Young man, you'd better be talking about what's in front of you.
"Nobody stays in a damp place forever." Dumbledore's gaze focused further on Owen.
"Unless it was forced," Irving continued.
"Mr. Sanchez," Dumbledore gestured to the remaining young wizards waiting for their sorting ceremony below the main table, "I don't know what prejudice you have against Hogwarts, but it's clear everyone's hungry."
"Minerva, put the hat back on Mr. Sanchez's head."
After saying that, Professor McGonagall, without waiting for Owen to argue further, grabbed the Sorting Hat and placed it on his head.
When the Sorting Hat was placed back on Irving's head, a buzzing murmur filled the dining room, like the hissing of flames.
Many young wizards craned their necks, trying to get a good look at him. For a moment, Owen attracted more attention than Harry Potter.
"Alright, you brat. Since you know so much about Hogwarts, which house do you think you're best suited for?" The Sorting Hat, like a deflated balloon, hung over his head and said listlessly.
"Yes—I have been kind since childhood and I am sworn enemies of evil!"
"Really?" The hat suddenly chuckled, as if it had heard some funny story.
"Since that's the case, then so be it."
"Hufflepuff!"
When Owen heard the hat shout that name to the entire restaurant, he felt a lightness in his head and, under Professor McGonagall's stern gaze, he sheepishly walked toward the Hufflepuff table.
Everyone was quite surprised by this result.
An unnamed pair of red-haired twins once discussed this, and they believed that Irving should go to Gryffindor because no one was braver than him.
Professor McGonagall, as the Head of Gryffindor, breathed a sigh of relief.
And began to sympathize with Professor Pomona Sprout.
"Hi, hello, my name is Irving, Irving Sanchez."
"Hmm, I'm Gabriel Truman, the prefect of Hufflepuff."
The Hufflepuff prefect had a round face, wore glasses, and had fluffy hair. Even though his gaze towards Owen was slightly cold, it couldn't hide the kind-hearted nature that was ingrained in him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Owen shook his hand. Then, he began to fully utilize his verbal skills, "I've heard that Hufflepuff's students are the best friends."
"I am very honored to be a part of it."
"I hope you can adapt," Gabriel Truman said somewhat uncertainly.
After saying that, he turned around and went back to his seat.
He never expected that Irving would be assigned to Hufflepuff.
Shouldn't a wizard who dared to drive the Sorting Hat crazy at the opening ceremony go to Gryffindor?
Or Ravenclaw.
At least he couldn't think of a way to drive the Sorting Hat crazy.
Watching the Hufflepuff prefect's forlorn figure recede into the distance, Owen's lips curled into a slight smile, his face radiating indifference.
He didn't care at all which college he would be assigned to.
All Kyrie Irving needs to do is grow up quickly.
He has no shortage of spells, combat techniques, or ancient secrets.
Even if he were to enter another college, it wouldn't seem to affect his plans for the future.
Moreover, entering Hufflepuff was also part of his plan.
It can be considered as fulfilling someone's long-cherished dream.
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
Meanwhile, the Sorting Ceremony was still ongoing.
The others, those little wizards destined to leave their mark on the history of magic, have already entered their respective academies, just as in the original story.
And Harry.
Because of Irving's intervention on the train, Draco did not have a conflict with him.
Ron didn't even have a chance to complain to him about how terrible Slytherin was.
But he still chose Gryffindor.
Owen guessed that he was influenced by Ron and Hermione, since the two of them had been sorted into Gryffindor before him.
Nothing has changed.
The opening ceremony has officially concluded.
