Chapter 219 Battle with the Corpse
Chapter 219 Battle with the Corpse
Corpse.
It is a very common familiar in the magical world.
In the Middle Ages, many wizards would create undead to guard their homes and property.
Some sorcerers would even turn themselves into undead when their time was up, then lie in a coffin to give future tomb raiders a little surprise.
Currently, after the long Dark Ages, modern wizards almost universally believe that creating undead is evil and inhumane.
But in reality, this magic that came from the African continent was not originally associated with words like evil.
On the contrary, ancient wizards who sought resurrection believed that the undead represented a completely new path of magic.
From Egypt to Haiti, from Africa to South America, this kind of magic was originally a high-level magic that only the most noble and prestigious people could "enjoy".
In ancient African tribes, only heroes who made great contributions received this honor. Ancient shamans would use extremely complicated methods to transform them into undead far more powerful than what Owen and his companions had seen.
They will become fearless undead warriors, continuing to protect the tribe.
This is the highest honor.
In other words, evil Europeans stole this technology, and after many years of modifications by dark wizards, it gradually transformed into the spell it is today—pure black magic.
Compared to authentic ancient corpses, modern corpses are much cheaper to make, have much weaker combat capabilities, and look much more ferocious.
It is also much easier to deal with.
For example, flames can effectively kill these kinds of Yin corpses.
The only difference is that Voldemort set up many restrictions in the cave.
Fire magic was greatly reduced in power, and the abundance of water here also provided protection for the undead.
Therefore, unless it's dark magic like the Fiendish Curse, conventional magic is unlikely to cause any damage to the Shadow Corpse.
Moreover, this was the first time Harry and his friends had ever faced these undead.
Fear is a natural human emotion.
"You guys have already dealt with the Dead Ones last semester, what are you afraid of, some little Shadow Corpse?"
On the island, Owen continued to encourage the two young wizards in his unique way.
Hermione and Harry exchanged a glance.
I had some reference points in mind.
Owen is right. Compared to the indestructible Undead, the Shadows that can be banished by flames seem insignificant.
No one expected that they would be dealing with such dark creatures in such a gloomy place.
If they were on the plains of Hogwarts, they certainly wouldn't be afraid.
But—it's too dark around here!
"Alright, the battle is about to begin," Dumbledore gestured to the others.
Then he extended his wand, and specks of starlight gathered at the tip of the Elder Wand before falling and sinking into the lake.
This is like a signal.
The lake surface was no longer smooth as a mirror, but was being violently churned.
Suddenly, the dark lake surface began to churn.
It's like boiling water.
Then countless white heads and hands emerged from the ink-black water—men's, women's, children's, and even some non-human creatures.
Fairies, elves, and humanoid magical creatures.
They all had sunken, blind eyes, struggling and grimacing as they floated toward the rocks.
"Blazing Flames!" Faced with such a terrifying scene, Hermione immediately pulled out her wand and quickly cast a spell.
The intense flames instantly repelled some of the Infernals, but their effect seemed too obvious, because there were so many Infernals crawling out of the water that they gathered together as if they were generating their own cooling effect, and soon the flames on Hermione's wand were compressed to an extremely thin level.
"Teared to pieces!" Harry exclaimed in panic. "Petrified!"
"Obstacles are numerous!"
In an instant, he unleashed a barrage of spells like a machine gun, flashing red light as the corpses were struck and then plunged into the lake with a "plop."
But they soon climbed out again.
Withered hands swept across the lake's surface, hollow, misty eyes stared at Harry, tattered clothes soaked in water trailed behind, sunken faces wore ferocious expressions, some even had missing limbs, and bodies rotting from being soaked in water looked extremely terrifying.
"Don't rush, Harry," Sirius said. "If you can't aim, wait until they get closer before casting the spell."
Harry nodded, gripped his wand, and stared intently at the infernal corpse before him.
A few breaths later, some more undead climbed onto the rocks, raising their hands, which were white from being soaked in the lake water, and crawled forward quickly, as if they wanted to pounce on Harry.
"Tear it apart!" Harry yelled again, waving his wand wildly in the air.
A flash of red light, and the corpse's head exploded like a punctured balloon, then it collapsed to the ground and never got up again.
"Good attack, aim for their heads!" Sirius waved his wand, unleashing several spells that simultaneously knocked down three or four Infernals. "Infernals aren't wizards, they don't need to be so gentle."
"Sure enough~~ Why be so gentle~" Owen muttered to himself as he tapped the spell Harry had thrown.
As he spoke, he raised his wand horizontally, and then several infinite blades slashed out, like invisible swords, slicing through the nearby shadow corpses into eight pieces as easily as cutting melons and vegetables.
"The Divine Blade is Without a Shadow!"
Looking at his masterpiece, Owen chuckled smugly and glanced at Hermione beside him. "Aim for their heads. Magic is based on biology too. Once their heads are off, they're all dead!"
"Oh, that's not a good adjective, because they were already dead."
Hermione was getting annoyed by Owen's provocative gaze.
she!
The mighty Gryffindor heroine would never admit defeat in such a 'small matter'!
As she spoke, she suddenly waved her wand, and the pebbles beneath her feet were suddenly manipulated by her. Then, a transformation spell struck the stone, and the fragments that were originally only the size of a fist swelled up in the wind, growing to the size of several adult wizards' waists in just a few breaths.
Then she waved her spell, sending the stone flying like a cannonball.
The blow smashed a bloody mess of limbs into the lake's surface. The scene was incredibly gruesome and shocking.
"Forehead"
This little witch is trying to steal her MVP from her buddy!
Owen realized that if there were fewer inigumo here, and if they didn't swarm in from all directions, and if the area wasn't restricted by strange magic, Hermione alone would be strong enough to defeat them.
It was even easier than he had imagined.
After all, mindless infernals are much easier to deal with than the junior wizards who could still cast spells during the Academy Wars.
Even a dozen junior wizards working together couldn't defeat Hermione, let alone a weakling like an Infernal.
Owen held his breath as he observed Hermione.
He glanced furtively at Dumbledore.
They discovered that the old headmaster was leisurely gazing at the lake, wand in hand, completely devoid of emotion.
He knew he had to unleash some illegal magic.
"If you wish to use Fiendfyre, you might as well wait a little longer." Just then, Dumbledore's voice came, "You can try out the new magic you just acquired."
He said it seriously.
He seems quite interested in ancient magic.
Upon hearing Dumbledore's suggestion, Owen suddenly became curious about the extra magic power within his body.
The silver magic seemed to be no different from his original magic.
He might be able to cast spells directly using this kind of magic.
As he spoke, Owen tentatively raised his wand.
He solemnly recited the fire incantation, "Fire roars!"
The next second, the tip of his wand suddenly glowed with a bright light.
As if it were a signal, an astonishing magical power erupted from his body, followed by flames.
Flames suddenly erupted from beneath his feet.
It was like a bulging balloon, suddenly scorching outwards.
"Whoa! Good heavens!"
Harry raised his arm, instinctively trying to dodge the flames.
But the flames dispersed automatically the moment they touched him, only to regroup behind him.
He charged toward the group of corpses.
"Merlin's beard!" Sirius exclaimed.
He clearly heard Irving recite the incantation.
That was just a fire spell.
It's just a fire spell.
How could it possess such immense power!
Before our eyes, the entire lake surface was ablaze with flames.
The orange-red flames were reflected brightly in the mirror-like water.
Flames shot into the sky.
Only the figure on the island, at the very center of the flames, stood there. He seemed like a reigning king, and all others were merely his subjects.
"This boost~" Owen was also taken aback by the boost from the ancient magic.
This power is simply unprecedented.
Even Dumbledore couldn't unleash such power with ordinary spells.
The flames on the lake surface were already boiling like clouds of mist.
If it weren't for the fact that it was already showing signs of going out, and if it could continue burning, I really can't imagine what need there would be for the Fiendfire Curse to exist.
"Is this ancient magic?" the old headmaster murmured.
This was the first time he had ever witnessed such magic in real life.
This power.
No wonder each generation of guardians is so meticulous in selecting their successors.
It is indeed too dangerous.
The battle continues.
Hermione seems to have discovered that Transfiguration is far more effective than other spells.
She was controlling a dark blue-green boulder by the lake.
With the help of powerful transformation magic, the stone seemed to come alive and began to change, first its arms and legs, then its head and body.
Although the outline was extremely rough, it was still possible to make out that it was very similar to the giant monster she had fought in her first year.
They even have a huge stick.
As we all know, a troll is a terrifying monster that is twelve feet tall and weighs more than a ton, but Hermione's transformation is naturally not that big!
But it's also about seven or eight feet.
One slap knocked down a whole bunch of them.
A tremendous screeching sound erupted between the rocks, filling everyone's ears with noise.
Everyone looked at Hermione with some surprise as she waved her wand.
Dumbledore and Sirius looked at Hermione, both with surprise in their eyes.
The little witch's power exceeded their expectations.
During his time teaching at Hogwarts, Sirius initially thought that the young wizards were somewhat more capable than he had been when he was a student. However, as he delved deeper into the subject, he realized that their strength was far greater than he had imagined.
Among these children, there is a group who are even stronger than ordinary children.
He already knew that Hermione and Harry were very strong.
But only now did he realize just how powerful ordinary junior wizards at Hogwarts truly were.
Harry, on the other side, was not to be outdone.
He didn't transform into some kind of giant beast like Hermione; frankly, his Transfiguration wasn't that good.
But the spell he unleashed shocked his godfather.
Because there are just too many.
Just like there's no spell Harry can't use.
Keep in mind he's only in third grade!
He and James only began to master spells like the Disarming Charm, the Explosion Charm, the Upside-Down Bell, and so on, after their fifth year.
But how old is Harry this year? He just finished his third year?
It was clear that he had mastered these spells in the third grade, or even earlier.
Good heavens!
Sirius let out a gasp of surprise.
He should have instigated a fight between the Gryffindor wizards and the Slytherins no matter what, at least to see the true level of the young wizards.
He has so many surprises now.
As for Owen, he began experimenting with various other spells.
Such as freezing spells, cutting spells, and blasting spells.
With the blessing of ancient magic, these originally simple spells underwent a dramatic transformation; in short, their power was qualitatively enhanced.
But he could sense that the power was not only changing the power of his spell, but there must be something deeper involved.
This requires him to leave here and focus on the research; there's no time to investigate such a thing now.
Time passed second by second.
The lake has become quiet again!
Kyrie Irving has almost forgotten how many spells he's cast.
He only stopped when his arms started to ache.
To date, they have not found any trace of Regulus.
"What's going on? There's still no sign of Regulus," Owen complained.
Casting ancient magic seems to consume a lot of energy, and since he didn't eat much this morning, he's hungry now!
"Kreacher!!!" Sirius roared, his eyes fixed on the house-elves.
"Master Regulus fell into the water here, Kreacher saw him, Kreacher saw him~~~" Clearly, the house-elf was acting strangely at this moment.
Its eyes were filled with fear and bloodshot as it stared at the lakeside, constantly pulling up pieces of limbs from the water to identify them, but unfortunately, none of them belonged to Regulus.
With each piece of meat thrown at it, the fear on its face grew stronger.
It is now terrified.
"You lied to me!" Sirius rushed over and grabbed Kreacher by the neck. His eyes were blazing with fury.
If his gaze had any warmth, Irving believed that Kreacher wouldn't be ignited in a second.
"Calm down, Sirius!" Dumbledore stopped him. Then, in a calm tone, he looked at Kreacher, whose eyes were also red and swollen, with large tears falling from them.
"Kreacher can't find the young master! Crouch has lost him!" Kreacher cried out.
Sitting on a bare rock, she cried out in anguish, like a child.
That voice moved everyone.
The only young witch present, Hermione, even had tears in her eyes.
"Alright, calm down!" the old headmaster continued, his words seemingly possessing some kind of magic, which seemed to calm Kreacher, who was on the verge of collapse. Hearing this, Kreacher turned and stared blankly at him. "Besides seeing Regulus fall into the water, what else did you see?"
"return?"
Kreacher's gaze was fixed on the water.
"Kreacher saw light. A very bright light!"
"The silver light... it's like... just like what Master Rozier just saw coming from the tip of his wand." Kreacher suddenly looked at Owen, pointing at him.
"Me?" Owen stared at the wand in his hand.
Then he looked at the lake.
"Could it be?"
As he spoke, he once again activated the ancient magic within his body.
Then it pushed all that terrifying power to the bottom of the lake.
"It can't really be true!" he muttered to himself.
From the moment he entered the cave, Owen had a strong feeling that something was definitely buried there.
But this was, after all, Voldemort's burial place. He assumed it was just the effect of a spell that guy had cast on him. Later, when he controlled the ancient magic he had been traveling with, the feeling lessened, but it still emanated from the bottom of the lake.
Irving didn't pay much attention, because it was probably some ancient magic contained at the bottom of the lake, which he just hadn't been able to extract because of the water.
But as the number of corpses at the bottom of the lake began to decrease significantly, he seemed to see fireflies emerging from the lake through the demon-infected water.
He thought it was just his imagination!
"Does this place really contain ancient magical relics?"
It seems to be to confirm what Irving said.
Suddenly, bubbles appeared on the calm lake surface, and then more and more appeared.
Then two tall stone pillars emerged from the bottom of the water. The obsidian pillars seemed to come alive and began to intertwine and connect rapidly.
Then, to everyone's astonishment...
Stone pillars intertwine to form a large gate.
A magnificent, golden gate.
It's engraved on an ancient symbol. A symbol that looks like a burning flame.
"Alright! The dungeon has entered its second phase," Owen muttered.
Then he turned to look at Professor Dumbledore.
"It seems to be an ancient magical relic, possibly left behind by an ancient wizard who possessed ancient magic."
"It seems so." Dumbledore silently chanted a few spells.
An invisible magical power surged from his body into the surroundings.
But—he didn't sense anything strange.
The door in front of him was just an ordinary door; he couldn't sense any magic in it.
"Is this ancient magic?"
"Ancient magic must be used to detect it."
"Will Regulus be inside?" Sirius asked anxiously. He didn't care about ancient magic; he was there to find his brother.
Nothing is more important than his goal.
Of course, all of this is predicated on ensuring Harry's safety. If Harry is threatened, he will abandon the adventure.
"Why don't we just go in and take a look!" Owen said, waving his wand. As if summoned by some force, the door creaked open slowly.
Unfortunately, no one saw the scenery inside.
