Chapter 196, page 194: They were just looking for an excuse to get out of Azkaban.
The incident of the Dementors from Azkaban running onto the Hogwarts Train had a significant impact, as many young wizards saw them.
The Dementors came to the car to hunt Sirius Black; they had the Ministry of Magic's permission.
Although the Ministry of Magic had given them a stern warning before they boarded the train not to attack young wizards.
But don't expect these mindless Dementors to follow the rules.
As long as there is happiness, that is their food.
"I think I should write a letter home to let them know."
"Even Dementors have shown up. What is the Ministry of Magic doing?"
Draco, abandoning his usual polite demeanor, began cursing with a pale face. A Dementor had just broken into his carriage, but fortunately, Draco had a good grasp of common sense and recognized it as a Dementor at a glance.
He barely managed to drive the Dementor away from the private room with his immature Guardian Charm.
However, he was still attacked by the Dementors and became somewhat listless.
"Are you alright?" Draco turned to the trembling little girl behind him and asked with concern.
His box contained many Slytherin members: Goyle, Crabbe, Pansy, Daphne, and her sister.
The little girl that Draco was protecting was Daphne's sister, Astoria.
A girl with long, flowing golden hair, blue eyes, and two dimples when she smiles.
"No, it's okay, thank you."
Astoria's face was as pale as Draco's, or even worse.
Younger wizards are more susceptible to the influence of Dementors.
Even with Draco's protection, Astoria was still affected by the Dementors.
"When we get to Hogwarts, I'll inform the Slytherin class about the meeting tonight."
Pansy said with a livid face, "I was also frightened by the Dementors. If Draco hadn't stepped in, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
The passengers on the express train are mostly young wizards, the future of the wizarding world. What was the Ministry of Magic thinking? Would they allow Dementors to board the train? Are they crazy?
"Here, have a cup of hot cocoa."
Draco bought a cup of hot cocoa from the train vendor and handed it to Astoria.
"It helps with recovery."
"Thanks."
Astoria spoke softly, took the hot cocoa, drank some, and felt warm all over, her spirits lifted somewhat.
She stole a glance at Draco, but when her eyes met his, she was like a startled rabbit, immediately lowering her head and staring at the hot cocoa in her cup, lost in thought.
"Draco, how did you learn the Patronus Charm?" Pansy asked.
Draco has changed a lot in the last year or two. Not only has his personality become more mature, but his abilities also surpass those of many upperclassmen. He is showing signs of becoming the number one Slytherin besides Dudley.
"Brother D had someone teach me, but unfortunately my Guardian Charm isn't fully developed yet, otherwise that disgusting guy wouldn't have been able to get in."
Draco didn't hide anything and told Pansy directly.
"As expected of Mr. Dursley!"
The Slytherins in the carriage were full of admiration.
At this moment, in the Hogwarts Headmaster's office.
"Cornelly, do you know what the Dementors just did?"
Dumbledore stared at Fudge with a serious expression, unusually devoid of any smile, and said sternly, "They've boarded the Hogwarts Express!"
"It's full of little wizards!"
"I have to catch Sirius as soon as possible, or I'm doomed."
Fudge tried to argue.
"They were enraged by Sirius's escape, and they vowed to find him!"
"Cornell," Dumbledore rubbed his throbbing temples, his tone filled with deep helplessness, "Dementors have no feelings, let alone anger."
"They're just looking for an excuse to get out of Azkaban."
"If we're in Azkaban, the Ministry of Magic can limit their numbers, but once we leave there, are you confident you can control them?"
"Albus, I had no choice."
Fudge looked at Dumbledore with a troubled expression and pleaded, "For the sake of our years of friendship, please help me this once."
"Once you capture Sirius Black, the Dementors will leave. They promised me. Until then, please let them serve as guards of Hogwarts. I beg you."
Dumbledore eventually agreed to Fudge's request.
Even if he disagreed, Fudge could forcefully suppress the matter.
Because he was the Minister of Magic, theoretically the most powerful wizard in all of England.
On the one hand, Hogwarts is subject to the constraints of the Ministry of Magic.
On the other hand, Dumbledore is constrained by the Ministry of Magic, and even though he has the ability to reshuffle the wizarding world, he will choose to abide by the rules.
Because he had sworn to stay away from the center of power.
Because he is the greatest white wizard in the world.
Because he is Dumbledore.
Beside the towering gates of Hogwarts, two Dementors stood guard on either side of the entrance, emanating a chilling aura that sent shivers down the spines of passing young wizards.
"It's unbelievable that dark creatures like Dementors could so brazenly enter Hogwarts."
"We must ask Dumbledore and Fudge what they really want to do."
The young wizards from all four houses did not look too good, especially Slytherin, whose faces were unusually grim.
The arrival of the Dementors made them feel as if they were in Azkaban, not Hogwarts.
Even if someone is destined to become a dark wizard, no one would want to experience what it's like to be in Azkaban.
Dementors don't show you any mercy just because you're from a certain school; they don't understand anything about human relationships or social niceties.
Several young wizards on the train were attacked by Dementors, but thankfully no one has been killed yet.
The auditorium was packed with students, a sea of black.
Once everyone was seated, the Sorting Ceremony officially began, and one young wizard after another was assigned to their respective house.
After the prelude ended, Dumbledore spoke, his expression unusually serious: "Welcome to Hogwarts for the new school year! I have a few words to say to you all, one of which is very serious."
"Our school is currently hosting several Dementors from Azkaban; they are here on official Ministry of Magic duties."
"They are stationed at all entrances to the school grounds. No one may leave the school without permission. Dementors cannot be fooled by tricks or disguises."
"They are not born knowing what a request or an excuse is, so I warn each and every one of you: do not give them any excuse to hurt you."
Dumbledore emphasized this repeatedly.
The young wizards had witnessed the power of the Dementors on the train, and even without Dumbledore's warning, their intimidation was enough to keep them in line.
"This year, I am delighted to welcome two new teachers to our team."
Just as Dumbledore was about to give a proper introduction to the two new professors of the courses...
That familiar, chilling feeling instantly filled the entire auditorium.
This means that the Dementors have entered Hogwarts Castle.
