Chapter 8: Snape Never Adds Points
Chapter 8: Snape Never Adds Points
"Mr. Strayed." A sinister voice rang out. Professor Snape snatched the bottle of scabies medicine from his hand, shook it, opened it, and smelled it. "Tell me, why did you slice the Pongo onion?"
"To make the Pongo Onion even more effective, Professor," Ike replied respectfully.
"A clever little trick." Professor Snape, seemingly unmoved, placed the bottle back on the table. "Then tell me, what role do the Pongo onions play in the scabies medicine?"
"I don't know, Professor." Of course, Ike wouldn't say that he just happened to cut it.
"You didn't know? You sliced a Pongo onion without knowing it? Mr. Stride, you've got some nerve." Professor Snape glanced at the remaining Pongo onion slices on the cutting board. "Potions is a rigorous discipline; changing any step can have serious consequences."
"Mr. Streid, you're very lucky."
"Pongo onions play a stabilizing role in the scabies potion. Whether you slice it or shred it, it won't affect the potion's efficacy. Although shredding it will slightly enhance the potion's effect, I still hope that you can brew the potion according to my instructions, Mr. Streid."
Professor Snape floated over to the Hufflepuff boys, and soon, vicious words such as, "You've been boiling horned slugs for an hour, your sense of time is as bad as your potions..." and "Wait until the color stabilizes before adding the boiled horned slugs, you should wake up, your cauldron didn't explode..." kept coming from the other side of the classroom.
Morag looked at Ike with admiration: "You succeeded on your first try, Ike! You're amazing!"
"Miss Macmillan," Ike said, as he jotted down the steps he had just taken in his notebook, "In fact, Professor Snape explained the steps very clearly. As long as you are careful, it is easy to make successfully."
Ike stopped writing, his blue eyes fixed on Morag with the same unwavering indifference as Snape's. Morag was startled by this Snape-esque gaze, abruptly lowered his head, picked up the cauldron, and walked towards the back of the classroom, where potion residue was disposed of.
Ike glanced at Morag, then subtly moved his right hand, causing the previously messy raw materials on the table to slowly float and neatly arrange themselves into small piles on the cutting board. With another movement of his finger, the equipment automatically moved to their proper places. When Morag returned, he was greeted by a perfectly organized workbench.
She glanced at Ike furtively, then silently took the remaining materials and didn't say another word to him until the end of get out of class.
Potions class consisted of two consecutive periods, and after deducting Professor Snape's lecture time, there was just enough time to brew potions. After class, Ike politely nodded to Morag, and then went to the Great Hall at the summons of Terry and Stuart.
Lunch at Hogwarts is mainly meat-based, though it can't compare to the opening dinner. It only offers steak, but you can also choose pasta, lasagna, or classic fish and chips. Ike picked up some pasta from his plate, then grabbed a piece of steak and started eating in silence.
He didn't even want to look at fish and chips.
"Ike, what did you do to offend Morag?" Stuart glanced at Morag, who was glaring at Ike from time to time, and asked in a low voice.
Upon hearing this, Ike put down his fork, turned around and gave Stewart a look just like Snape's, which startled Stewart.
"Promise me, Ike," Stewart patted his chest, "don't look at me like that anymore, it's really scary."
Terry, who was on the other side, didn't see it and quickly asked. Ike naturally granted his request and then joined Stuart's team to fight Ike.
Ike smiled, finished the food on his plate, elegantly wiped his mouth, and then replied, "I wonder if you've ever heard this saying?"
"What?"
"Without women in my heart, magic will naturally be divine." Ike said seriously.
"Who said that? I've never heard of it." Terry thought for a moment and was sure he had never heard of that phrase before.
"Merlin!" Ike exclaimed dramatically, patting Terry on the shoulder. "Merlin also said that it's a miracle someone as stupid as you is still alive."
Hearing this, Terry immediately realized Ike was teasing him, and pretended to be grabbed, ready to pounce on him for a fight. Ike also pretended to dodge a couple of times before saying, "There's still some time before afternoon classes. I'm planning to wander around the castle. Want to come along?"
"No, we're not going." Terry and the other man shook their heads in unison. "We're going back to the common room for a bit."
"See you in the History of Magic classroom later."
Leaving the Great Hall, Ike headed towards the Hufflepuff lounge. After passing the lounge entrance and walking along the stone corridor for a while, a painting appeared on the wall.
Looking at the silver bowl filled with fruit depicted on the mural, Ike silently walked back. This time, he went straight to the eighth floor and finally saw a mural of trolls fighting Barnabas at a corner. In the mural, Barnabas saw Ike approaching and made a pleading gesture, but this did not stop the trolls' clubs from falling.
"It's not the right time yet."
Along the eighth-floor corridor, Ike returned to the Ravenclaw common room but didn't see Terry and the other man. When he got back to his dormitory, he ran into the two of them carrying "The History of Magic" and preparing to leave.
"I was just wondering where you went. Hurry up and grab your books, we need to go to the classroom." Stuart patted Ike on the shoulder. "We'll wait for you at the door."
Ike nodded, and to the astonishment of the two men, he tossed the potions textbook onto the table. With a flick of his finger, the enormous "History of Magic" fell into Ike's hands.
"Let's go," Ike said, and walked out first.
"No matter how many times I watch it, it still feels amazing." Stuart sighed and glanced at Terry.
"Talent, huh?" Terry sighed as he followed Ike toward the history of magic classroom.
The history of magic classroom and the library were both on the second floor of the castle. The three of them entered the classroom, where the other eagles were already inside.
Morag clearly hadn't forgiven Ike yet, and glared at him again. Kona and Goldstein, having learned what had happened thanks to Stewart's explanation, couldn't help but gloat.
Ike gave the four of them a look just like Snape's, which immediately intimidated them. Then he moved his fingers, pretended to shut himself up, and started flipping through "The History of Magic".
Professor Binns Cuthbert has been studying the History of Magic at Hogwarts for hundreds of years, and much of what's in the book is based on his own experiences.
Because obsession is the very essence of a ghost's existence, and Professor Binns' obsession is teaching; nothing else matters to him. This may explain why Professor Binns doesn't possess the rich emotions of someone like Madam Grey or Nick the Nearly Headless, which results in his History of Magic teaching being like a lullaby, devoid of any variation in tone or inflection.
Even freshmen know that the History of Magic is the best place to sleep, with a powerful sleep-inducing effect.
Ike didn't want to experience Professor Binns' hypnotic power, but he was indeed somewhat interested in the history of magic, so he cast a spell on himself to read quietly for a while.
After all, Merlin once said that only magic can defeat magic.
