Chapter 76 The True Gryffindor Sword Saint
"Sizzle~ Sizzle~ Sizzle~"
Under the watchful eyes of the four deans, Ike made a hissing sound at the snake-patterned faucet in the pool. Just like last time, the waterwheel slowly parted, revealing a very thick pipe.
"Ike, I remember you shouldn't have the talent for Parsleyan," Professor Flitwick asked.
"This is... something I learned. I even raised a snake to practice with, but unfortunately it's dead now," Ike replied.
"Alright, I was just asking." Professor Flitwick smiled, reaching out to pat Ike's shoulder, but failing, he patted him on the forearm instead. "But if you ever want to go to that place again, you can come find me."
"At your age, you need plenty of sleep, don't you?"
"Okay, Professor! Thank you!"
Professor McGonagall glanced at Ike with a serious expression but said nothing. She then turned to Professor Sprout and said, "Pomona, thank you for your help. We need to take some precautions here to prevent any unruly young wizards from barging in."
Professor Sprout nodded slightly, took some dark seeds from his pocket, and scattered them beside the entrance. Then he took out his wand and muttered an incantation. With a wave of his wand, the seeds quickly sprouted, turning into winding vines that covered the entrance, leaving only a small opening large enough for one person to pass through.
Professor McGonagall also took out her wand and tapped it twice in the air. Two majestic lions appeared, obediently walked to the vines and sat down, their copper bell-like eyes fixed on the bathroom door.
"Alright, that should be fine." Professor McGonagall nodded in satisfaction, then turned to Ike and said, "Mr. Streid, remember, don't leave our sight once we're down there, and be obedient!"
"Don't worry, Professor McGonagall!" With that, Ike took a few steps to the entrance and said, "There's a long, complicated tunnel down there. I'll go down first!"
Then he leaped in.
"Let's follow," Professor Flitwick said helplessly, and jumped in second. Snape followed closely behind, then Professor McGonagall, and finally Professor Sprout waved his wand as he jumped in, and the vines immediately blocked the entrance completely.
Returning to the same place, Ike seemed at ease, landing with greater ease. After waiting for a while, the professors arrived.
With a loose grasp of his left hand, he tossed out a ball of light emitting a soft white glow, then cast a guiding spell, and the wand remained firmly suspended in the air.
After glancing at the direction the tip of his staff pointed, Ike said to the professors behind him, "This way."
"Excellent Illumination and Guiding Charms, Ike," Professor Flitwick exclaimed. Snape scoffed, flicked his robes, and walked straight ahead.
Ike shrugged, quickly ran a few steps to the front, and dutifully took on the role of leading the way.
With the backing of four professors, Ike became much bolder. He walked quickly and soon arrived at the place where the giant snake skin had been removed.
Snape was clearly interested in the thing and immediately reached out and touched it.
"It seems you weren't wrong, this snake monster is indeed several hundred years old." As he spoke, he also knocked off a piece of snake skin and put it into his pocket.
"How much further, Mr. Strayed?" Professor McGonagall asked, still holding her wand.
"I remember it was just ahead, Professor McGonagall," Ike replied, reaching out in the direction his wand was pointing.
"Let's continue."
Ike responded and continued walking forward.
After a while, they finally arrived at the wall with two snakes entwined around it.
"Sizzle~ Sizzle~ Sizzle~"
The doors slowly opened, and Professor McGonagall led the way, followed by Professors Flitwick and Sprout. Only Ike and Professor Snape remained at the back.
Putting away the Illumination Charm, Ike also took out his wand and said, "We don't need any lighting inside. It's a bit dark, but not so dark that we can't see anything."
Snape nodded and also took his wand in his hand.
"You're not allowed to leave my side, understand?"
"Okay, Professor."
Once inside the secret room, the professors became more vigilant, constantly monitoring their surroundings.
"Are you sure he'll be here?" Snape asked in a low voice.
"I'm not sure." Ike shook his head and replied softly, "I just think it's possible. After all, this is Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets, and almost no one can get in."
"It seems unlikely," Snape said, "but it would be good if we could take down the basilisk."
"I don't have any basilisks in my collection yet."
Ike didn't respond this time; he focused his attention on his surroundings, carefully examining everything and trying not to miss any clues.
Unfortunately, they found nothing even after reaching the giant statue of Slytherin.
"Is the basilisk inside the statue?" Professor McGonagall asked.
"Yes, Professor." Ike nodded.
"Then, after you release the basilisk, hide to the side and leave the rest to us, Mr. Stradt," Professor McGonagall instructed sternly.
Ike agreed, stepped forward slightly, and recited the long string of praises for Slytherin in Parseltongue.
A rumbling sound rang out, and Slytherin's mouth slowly opened. Ike timely hid behind a stone pillar, while the four professors scattered and stood ready, forming a pocket formation.
After a while, there was still no sound of the basilisk crawling out. Ike couldn't help but feel a little strange, so he ran back and stared intently at the dark hole in the statue, silently pondering in his mind.
"Asleep?" Ike muttered, then realized, "No, it's not in there!"
The four professors also realized this and turned around to look at the entrance to the secret chamber. Soon after, a piercing sound was heard, accompanied by a chilling snake hiss, and a huge figure began to appear.
Hearing the snake language, Ike's face turned ugly, as the basilisk kept repeating the same sentence.
"Kill Ekko! Kill Ekko!"
"Get out of the way, Ike!" Professor McGonagall shouted, taking the lead. With a wave of her wand, the giant snakes on the stone pillar seemed to come alive, and under Professor McGonagall's control, more than a dozen snakes neatly blocked the way in front of everyone.
Professor McGonagall raised her wand and lightly tapped it in the air. The giant snakes rushed towards the basilisk, and the enormous creatures immediately began to wrestle. But it was clear that these products of transformation were no match for the basilisk and were completely outmatched. In the blink of an eye, two or three of them were crushed by the basilisk.
Professor McGonagall hadn't expected such simple magic to be effective. She was just using these cannon fodder to distract the basilisk and prevent it from looking at them, while also creating opportunities for the others to attack.
Professor Sprout scattered another handful of seeds, and with a wave of his wand, thick vines suddenly appeared, binding the basilisk's body while it was entangled with the giant snakes.
Professor Flitwick nimbly charged forward, unleashing a storm of magic upon the basilisk's head, aiming directly at its most threatening yellow eyes. However, the basilisk was simply too large; although Professor Flitwick's spells all struck the snake's head, they always fell just short.
"Stop it!" Professor Flitwick shouted, and the giant snake and vines immediately intensified their attack, tightly binding the basilisk's body.
Seizing the opportunity, Professor Flitwick unleashed an Eye Strike spell, striking the basilisk squarely in its left eye.
"Silk!"
The basilisk let out a huge roar, shaking its body wildly, and in the blink of an eye, it broke free from the giant snake and vines. It arched its body slightly, then suddenly lunged forward, its only remaining eye wide open, staring intently at Professor Flitwick's small body.
The battle-hardened Professor Flitwick lowered his head and dodged to the side the moment he succeeded. The other professors did the same, manipulating their vines and giant snakes to entangle them once more after dodging.
"The Divine Blade is Without a Shadow!"
Snape shouted, and Ike was shocked to see the basilisk staggered by an invisible force, its forward momentum halted. Professor McGonagall and Professor Sprout seized the opportunity, summoning more giant snakes and vines, pinning the basilisk to the ground. Professor Flitwick then cast another Eye Spell on the basilisk's remaining right eye.
The basilisk, now with its eyes wide open, grew increasingly enraged, but Professors McGonagall and Sprout tightened their control over the magic, making it impossible for the basilisk to break free. Moreover, Snape summoned a pair of enormous hands made of rubble, which firmly gripped the basilisk's head and tail, even covering its eyes.
Professor McGonagall raised her wand high in her right hand, maintaining her Transfiguration spell, and slowly walked towards the Basilisk. With a flick of her left hand, she shouted, "The Sorting Hat, come here!"
To Ike's astonishment, the filthy hat suddenly flew in from the entrance to the secret chamber and landed right in Professor McGonagall's hand.
Professor McGonagall gently tossed the Sorting Hat aside, reached into it with her left hand, and a sterling silver sword inlaid with rubies fell into her grasp.
With a flick of his left hand, the sword was drawn, and the Sorting Hat floated lightly toward Ike, landing right on his head.
"Hey kid, I remember you! Ravenclaw kid!"
Ike stared intently at Professor McGonagall, who was slowly moving forward while maintaining her magic, and casually replied, "Hello, Mr. Hat."
"Hehe..." The Sorting Hat let out a cheerful laugh. "Look closely, this scene is quite rare. Remember the last time Mireille took out that sword? That was decades ago!"
"Decades ago?" Ike was about to ask again when Professor McGonagall arrived at the location of the basilisk's head. She raised her sword with her left hand and swung it down fiercely.
Snape's summoned giant hand was cleaved in two like tofu, the sword's momentum undiminished, striking directly at the basilisk's head. Professor McGonagall twisted her wrist, and the sword slashed across the basilisk's tightly closed eyes.
"Pomona!" Professor McGonagall called out, and the vines tightened again, wrapping around the snake's head and pressing it firmly to the ground.
Professor McGonagall stepped onto the basilisk's head, her wand vanishing with a flick of her right hand. She then gripped her sword with both hands, raising it high, tip pointing downwards, and plunged it fiercely down into the basilisk's head!
puff!
The massive serpentine body trembled violently, but Professor McGonagall remained unmoved, firmly pressing down on the basilisk's head.
After a short while, the basilisk gradually stopped struggling and lay motionless on the ground.
A sword hilt was visible above his head, its ruby gleaming brightly.
