Chapter 42 The Idea of Robbing Gringotts
Chapter 42 The Idea of Robbing Gringotts
After spending another week at St. Mary's, Ike bid farewell to Julianne and the other children at the orphanage and headed to London alone.
This was something that had been planned long ago, and Julianne knew it too. Even though she was still a little reluctant, she went with Ike.
Dragging his large suitcase, he walked a long way until he could no longer see Saint Mary. Only when no one was around did Ike take out his wand and hold it horizontally forward.
After a deafening roar, a three-story bus suddenly stopped in front of Ike.
The doors opened, and a young man with acne-covered face leaned against the doorframe, not even looking up. While pulling at his ticket, he said, "Welcome aboard the Knight Bus. This is an emergency passenger service for witches or wizards in distress. Just extend your wand and get on board, and we'll take you wherever you want to go. My name is Stan Sampark, your ticket seller."
"Eleven sisal, fair and square, the price is the same no matter where you go. Of course, if you pay fourteen sisal, you can get chocolate, and fifteen sisal will get you a thermos and a toothbrush, the color of which you can choose." Stan Sampark raised his head slightly and extended his right hand. "Pay first, then get on the bus. We have a strong sense of professionalism."
Ike took out Eleven Sike from his pocket and handed it to him. Sampak pursed his lips and helped Ike load all the luggage into the car.
"Hold on tight to your things, the journey will be a bit bumpy. By the way, where are you going?"
"Leaky Cauldron, thank you." Ike sat on the bed, his suitcase beside him, sandwiched between the two beds.
"Oh, London, that's a long way," Sampark muttered. "The Ministry of Magic should really raise prices, like the Muggles do. This kind of journey should cost at least a Galleon."
Sampak tapped on the glass and shouted, "Ern! The Leaky Cauldron!"
Upon hearing the sound, Ernst Pran released the handbrake, pressed the clutch, shifted gears with his right hand, and floored the accelerator with his right foot. The three-story bus suddenly shot forward, and the powerful inertia caused Ike's body to involuntarily fall backward.
I propped myself up on the bed with my hands. The scenery outside the window flashed past me at breakneck speed, and after only a few seconds, I felt a little dizzy. Sampak leaned closer again, holding a large piece of chocolate and waving it around.
"Would you like one now?"
"No, thank you." Ike shook his head slightly, declining.
"Okay, but don't throw up on the bed, it's a hassle to clean up." Sampark shrugged and knocked on the glass behind Ern. "Hurry up, someone's waiting for us in Manchester!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Ike felt his body lurch forward, and the bus came to a stop.
The door opened, and Sampak leaned against the doorframe again: "We've arrived at Leaky Cauldron. Thanks for riding the Knight Bus!"
Ike waved and followed behind, floating off the bus. His feet had barely touched the ground when another deafening crash echoed, and the Knight Bus was gone.
"Interesting. I'll take one apart sometime." Ike exclaimed, adding it to his future plans, and then pushed open the bar door.
The Leaky Cauldron was still the same, seemingly unchanged. Ike walked to the counter and said to old Tom, who was always wiping glasses, "I want a room."
Old Tom glanced at Ike, put down his glass, and took a key from under the table: "One Gallon. You can stay until September 1st. The room is upstairs, and the room number is on the key."
Ike picked up the key, which had "203" written on it, pushed a Galleon over, and turned to go upstairs.
The Leaky Cauldron's guest rooms continue its overall style, very simple, with only a bed and a bedside table, not even a chair. The cleanliness of the rooms is trustworthy, or rather, it seems to rely on a cleaning spell; they appear quite spotless.
Ike opened his suitcase, took out a small briefcase from it, changed into his robe, and left the room, heading straight for Gringotts.
The goblins of Gringotts were still the same, aloof and indifferent to everyone, but their attitude softened considerably when they saw the golden objects in Ike's box.
"You need to exchange them for Galonnaise, right?" A fairy pushed up her glasses and looked at Ike with a scrutinizing gaze.
"Yes." Ike nodded.
The fairy took out the gold items from the box one by one to test them, and then weighed them on a scale. After a while, she took out a bag and pushed it towards Ike: "There are a total of 672 ounces of gold items, which can be exchanged for 1224 Galleons, 13 Sikor, and 120 Nat. Please keep it safe."
Ike took the bag, emptied the money inside, and lightly tapped a Galleon with his wand. The scattered coins naturally arranged themselves into Galleons, Sickles, and Knuckles, and he announced the numbers: "1224 Galleons, 12 Sickles, 100 Knuckles!"
Looking at the fairy with a half-smile, the fairy remained unfazed and handed over 1 Sickle 20 Kalpas. Ike took the money and was about to put it back in his bag when the fairy said, "Money pouch, 1 Sickle 20 Kalpas."
Looking up, the goblin didn't shy away, extending his hand to gesture for Ike to give him the bag. Ike casually tossed it over, took out his own money pouch from his robe, put the money away, and then went to the place where he collected his scholarship money to collect 20 Galleons and put it into his money pouch.
"Black, really black!" Ike cursed under his breath as he left Gringotts.
672 ounces of gold is equivalent to 19 kilograms. With the current gold price at approximately £28000 per kilogram, 19 kilograms would be worth £532000. The current exchange rate between the Galleon and the British pound is roughly 1:5, meaning this gold should have been worth 106400 Galleons. Even if the exchange rate isn't perfectly accurate, it should still be around 10 Galleons. However, it only yielded a paltry 1224 Galleons!
"We'll rob you sooner or later." Even though he knew the conversion wasn't right, it didn't stop Ike from making his plan. If it weren't for the hassle of exchanging all that gold for pounds at a gold shop in London, Ike wouldn't want to bother with these greedy devils.
With his hard-earned money, Ekko first bought a box that had been enchanted with a Seamless Stretch spell. The 3-cubic-meter space cost Ekko 20 Galleons. After buying the new semester's textbooks, Ekko was left with just 1200 Galleons.
They really spend money like water.
Carrying the suitcase back to his room at the Leaky Cauldron, Ike put all his belongings into the new suitcase and then cast an identification spell on it. This spell would recognize Ike's magic and only he could open the 3-cubic-meter space; others could only see things in Muggle mode.
It's just a few pieces of clothing.
"I need to learn the Seamless Stretch Charm this new semester." Ike set a new plan: if he didn't want to make the box as big as Newt's portable zoo, it should at least be the size of a house.
If he could, Ike would even like to cast a Seamless Stretch Charm on a personal item, like a watch, but that would require knowledge of alchemy, so for now he can only dream about it.
There will be more later, please give me all kinds of votes.
