Magical Studies at Hogwarts...
Chapter 29 Unicorn
Chapter 29 Unicorn
Hogwarts does not teach students Legilimency and Occlumency. To learn these two spells, one generally needs to apply to the Ministry of Magic after graduation. The Ministry will examine your work and reasons, and only specific departments are allowed to learn them.
For example, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and the Department of Magical Accidents and Disasters.
However, applying to the Ministry of Magic is more of a formality. Most applicants have already learned Legilimency and Occlumency when they apply, so the so-called examination is more like a formality.
After all, if you put in a little effort while at school, you can easily find relevant books in the restricted book section.
Occlumency wasn't difficult for Ike; the Waste Notepad system came with an incomplete version, and as long as he understood the principles and methods of Occlumency, he could easily learn it. Besides, there was also the threat of Old Voldemort's Soul-Stealing Curse, so leveling up wasn't a problem.
As for Legilimency, that's not so easy. As a model young man, Ike couldn't experiment on his friends.
Let's talk about it another time.
Quirrell must have been here many times before, walking quickly ahead, unaffected by the complex terrain. Even Ike, following behind, stumbled along, finding it difficult to hide amidst the exposed tree roots, protruding branches, and vines.
After walking like this for about half an hour, Quirrell suddenly lowered his body and stopped. Ike crouched down quietly to the side and looked ahead through the bushes.
It was a rare clearing in the forbidden forest, with a small pool in the center, and a stream flowing from there before moving on to another place.
Two unicorns were by the pool; one was lying on the ground, while the other was drinking water.
Upon first seeing these magical creatures, which were well-known even among Muggles, Ike was stunned by their beauty. It was an indescribable sanctity; their pure white fur seemed to glow, swaying gently and bringing an inexplicable sense of peace.
A smile inadvertently crept onto Ike's lips, while Quirrell, standing to the side, gripped his wand tightly, uttering "Cover me" before casting a Barrier Charm.
The blue-green sparks startled the unicorns, but this level of magic had little effect on them. As XXXX-level magical creatures, unicorns possessed high resistance to magic.
Moreover, their combat strength is extremely high.
The unicorn that had been drinking water moved its four hooves, lowered its head slightly, and its spiral horn shattered Quirrell's barrier spell. It charged towards Quirrell at lightning speed, forcing him to dodge to the side. At that very moment, the other unicorn stood up and charged after it.
Ike slid to the side, raised his hand and cast a Barrier Spell, followed by a Shattering Spell that struck the ground next to the unicorn, kicking up a cloud of dust.
After dodging, Quirrell kept waving his wand, unleashing spells like "Obstacles," "Shattered Bones," "Immediate Imprisonment," and "Blazing Flames," occasionally flashing a green light. This startled the unicorn that had charged at them, luring it unwittingly to the edge of the pool. Meanwhile, Ike used the surrounding trees to play hide-and-seek with the unicorn, and for the time being, there was no real danger.
"Bring it over here!" Quirrell shouted urgently. Ike paused for a moment upon hearing this, then quickly ran towards the pool, throwing a few Obstacle Charms behind him as he did so.
After the two unicorns entered, Quirrell began to display his true magical power. With a wave of his wand, a high earthen wall surrounded the unicorns and the two of them, and with another wave, flames ignited on the earthen wall.
The unicorns huddled together, pacing restlessly. They were intelligent magical creatures, well aware of the power of an adult wizard, and understood that escape would be difficult in their current situation.
"Unicorns are very fast, and their horns have strong penetrating power, easily piercing through a fire dragon's scales..." Quirrell said warily, his expression grave. "To defeat them, the first thing we need to do is change the terrain, trapping them in a place like this..."
"Cutting spells, eye disease spells, obstacle spells, petrification spells—constantly restricting their movements. When they can no longer run, they're no different from cattle and sheep..."
"Remember, aim for their hooves and eyes; unicorn fur has strong magic resistance!"
"All you have to do is use barrier spells to restrict their movements. At your level, that'll be easy..." Quirrell glanced at Ike, his words brimming with unwavering authority. "We need to finish this quickly; dragging it out will attract those troublesome centaurs!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Quirrell threw two Slicing Curses, which the unicorn easily dodged. Ike quickly cast Barrier Curses, striking the ground around the unicorn and kicking up patches of dirt, which in turn blocked several of Quirrell's Slicing Curses.
"Aim! Aim for their legs!" Quirrell was getting impatient after several spells were blocked by the flying mud. He yelled at Ike while speeding up his spellcasting.
"Okay!" Ike agreed verbally, his hands never stopping. He then slightly adjusted his target, and two of the five spells hit the unicorn's legs.
It's just that its power is very small, and it has basically no effect.
Quirrell was getting anxious. His current physical condition couldn't support a prolonged battle, and he was already starting to struggle. Glancing at Ike, who was gritting his teeth and continuously casting spells, Quirrell couldn't help but increase the frequency of his spellcasting once more.
A first-year wizard can do this much for his master, and his master is right behind him!
Ike had no idea what Quirrell was thinking. While maintaining his Occlumency spell, he was rapidly casting Barrier Charms, occasionally interspersed with Petrification and Eye Damage Charms. However, his aim was really poor, and the spells either hit the ground or the earthen wall behind the unicorn. He even accidentally intercepted Quirrell's Cutting Charm.
Quirrell didn't know what to say, after all, Ike was already panting heavily. Even the most talented young wizards don't have much magic power at this age, and casting spells at a high frequency for a long time was really difficult for him.
Moreover, as far as he knew, Ekko didn't have much practical experience, so it was understandable that his accuracy was a little off. Besides, in most cases, Ekko did quite well.
The fight went on for a while. Every time the two unicorns tried to charge, they were pushed back by Quirrell's Slicing Charm, and they were starting to tire themselves out from the barrage of spells. Seeing the unicorns showing signs of exhaustion, Quirrell disregarded his weakened state and intensified his attacks, panting heavily as he recklessly unleashed the Slicing Charm.
Left with no other choice, Ike also accelerated the release speed of the Barrier Spell.
As the saying goes, prolonged defense inevitably leads to defeat. Quirrell seized the opportunity and precisely struck a severing spell at the junction of a unicorn's leg and hoof, nearly severing it off. Startled, he unleashed two more severing spells.
Ike was also excited and threw three Obstruction Curses, but unfortunately one missed and landed next to the unicorn's hoof. The other hit slightly higher, causing the unicorn to stagger and sway, thus avoiding Quirrell's two Cutting Curses and the third Obstruction Curse.
The battle had been going on for so long that Quirrell and Ike had unleashed countless spells. Although most of them hit their intended targets, some were dodged by the unicorn and struck the earthen wall instead, which was already on the verge of collapse.
The two cutting spells and the barrier spell were like the last straw that broke the camel's back; the earthen wall collapsed. The unicorns turned and fled, disappearing into the forest through the gap, leaving only specks of silvery-white blood on the ground.
Quirrell waved his hand to cancel the transformation and plopped down on the ground. Ike fell even faster, panting heavily, and asked breathlessly, "Professor... Professor, the great... Dark Lord, what... what's next?"
"Master...Master, I..."
"Useless!" the Dark Lord roared at Quirrell, startling Quirrell into standing up quickly, removing his hood, and nodding slightly. "Child, you're quite good. At your age, no one can do better than you."
Comrade Old Fu was very satisfied with Ike's performance. After giving him a verbal praise, he scolded Quirrell, "Go after it! It's injured! Go after it!"
"Yes, Master!" Quirrell ignored his increasingly weak body and chased after the silvery-white blood on the ground.
Ike stopped resting and followed closely behind Quirrell, running into the dense forest.
