Chapter 264 Approaching Death
Chapter 264 Approaching Death
Before Voldemort, only one dark wizard was considered the most dangerous in history: Gellert Grindelwald, who nearly overthrew the wizarding world decades ago. If Dumbledore hadn't intervened, the wizarding world might be very different today.
However, since his defeat by Dumbledore in 1945, he imprisoned himself in Nurmengard, the prison he had once used to hold his opponents. From that day on, he was the only prisoner in Nurmengard.
There were no guards, only people from the Austrian Ministry of Magic who brought him three meals a day, and he never stepped out of Nurmengard again.
When Old Voldemort and Ike arrived in Nurmengard, they saw only a dilapidated castle, its outer walls covered in lush, green vines. The gates were rusted, and one side was even completely rusted to death.
As if on a picnic, the two walked along the overgrown path toward the castle. When they arrived at the gate, the gate, which had not been repaired for decades, was half-open, covered with vines, and even had a few wildflowers in bloom, but there was no fragrance to be smelled.
Ike waved his wand, and the door creaked open, releasing a musty smell from the world beyond. Stepping inside, he found the place empty, with only faint traces of the once-beautiful decorations on the walls remaining.
Passing through the empty corridor, you enter a simple hall. A clean fireplace leans against the wall, and a black sofa and a coffee table sit in the middle of the hall; there are no other objects besides these.
Behind the sofa was a staircase with mahogany handrails, where a gaunt old man was standing at the top of the stairs looking down.
He stood ramrod straight, his full head of white hair meticulously combed and neatly draped behind his head. He wore a gray robe that looked old, but was very clean.
"It's unbelievable that anyone would actually come to see an old man like me these days," the old man said softly, his voice not loud, but loud enough for Old Volker and Ike to hear clearly. "If I'm not mistaken, you are Tom Riddle?"
"Heh heh heh..." Old Voldemort chuckled, calmly looking at the old man on the stairs. "Gellert Grindelwald, heh heh heh..."
Grindelwald slowly walked down the stairs, sat down on the sofa, leaned back naturally, and said softly, "You seem a little disappointed?"
"Disappointed? No, no, no," Old Fu laughed. "I just find it laughable."
"Grindelwald, who once instilled fear in all of Europe, is now in such a state."
"It was just a defeat, that's all. To think I'd imprisoned myself here for over fifty years... Heh heh heh, nothing special, nothing special at all!"
Upon hearing this, Grindelwald laughed, shaking his head and clapping. After a moment, he slowly said, "You didn't come here just to laugh at me, did you?"
"Laugh? Perhaps," Old Fu said, his expression immediately turning serious, his eyes even showing a hint of coldness. "Before coming here, I went to Berlin to meet someone, and I got some news from him..."
"Let me guess, Gregorovich? Tsk tsk tsk, unbelievable that he's still alive..." Grindelwald sighed. "So, you're here to find the legendary Elder Wand?"
"That's right, the Elder Wand," Old Voldemort said calmly. "Legend has it that Death made the wand from his own finger bones. I need to know its whereabouts."
"Do you think I'd tell you?" Grindelwald sat up straight, his eyes calmly fixed on old Voldemort.
"You will speak." Old Fu's eyes grew even colder.
"Ha!" Grindelwald suddenly laughed, shrugged, and replied, "You guessed wrong."
"That's not up to you..." Old Voldemort said, waving his wand. Grindelwald's gaunt body flew from the sofa to his front, the tip of the wand slamming into his forehead.
Grindelwald still had a smile on his face, and even glanced at the wand on his forehead, his tone as calm as before.
"Legacy of thoughts? Heh heh heh, you don't actually think that would work on me, do you?"
Old Fu remained silent, but the tip of his staff suddenly emitted a white light. Grindelwald's body trembled involuntarily, yet his face maintained a calm smile.
"It's... no use..." His words clearly revealed the immense pain he was enduring, yet he still retained a sense of relief and composure.
Seeing this, a surge of anger inexplicably welled up in Old Fu's heart, and the white light at the tip of his staff brightened slightly. At this moment, Grindelwald's eyes rolled back, and his body trembled even more violently.
"snort!"
After a while, Old Voldemort snorted coldly, put away his wand, and slammed Grindelwald to the ground. Grindelwald's body involuntarily curled up, and he coughed violently, but still stubbornly raised his head.
His eyes were bloodshot but clear, and they also held an arrogance that made Old Fu even more irritated.
"Cough, cough... I knew it, this... this is useless..."
"You won't...you won't find out...the whereabouts of the Elder Wand from me today..."
Old Voldemort stared coldly at Grindelwald on the ground for a long time. Suddenly, a flash of green light from his wand struck Grindelwald.
"Avada Kedavra, eating a giant melon!"
Looking at Grindelwald's motionless body, his eyes were still wide open, but there was no disbelief or terror. Instead, one could still see a bit of composure. However, it didn't last long before the expression disappeared.
"teacher……"
After a long while, Ike spoke softly, looking at Old Fu who stood motionless with a somewhat inexplicable emotion, and slowly asked, "What should we do next?"
Old Voldemort didn't answer, waved his hand, and walked out of the castle. Ike glanced at Grindelwald on the ground, then followed without a word.
After leaving the house and walking along the overgrown road, I arrived at the gate and saw a man in a panic.
He was young, with fair and delicate features, probably a recent graduate. He was carrying a basket, and you could faintly smell the aroma of cooked beef.
"Avada Kedavra, eating a giant melon!"
Old Fu casually cast a death curse, and the man fell straight backward. The basket in his hand fell to the ground, the lid opened, and an apple rolled out, landing right at Old Fu's feet.
"Let's go."
As it took a step forward, the apple suddenly withered and rotted beyond recognition in the blink of an eye. It stopped again not far away.
"ha!"
Old Voldemort suddenly turned around, his wand pointing directly at the castle behind him. He swung it forward with a mighty swing, and the earth began to tremble violently. The gates collapsed, and huge cracks appeared on the castle's outer walls before it slowly crumbled, raising clouds of dust.
Before the dust and smoke could settle, scorching flames suddenly appeared, engulfing the entire manor in flames. Thick smoke billowed into the sky.
Old Fu's chest heaved violently, veins bulging, as he stared at the raging fire before him for a long while before calming down. He extended his left hand to Ike, who naturally took it.
The next second, the two disappeared from the spot.
