Chapter 127 Lupine
Chapter 127 Lupine
The news of what had happened in Gryffindor by early the next morning had spread far and wide. As expected, the castle was placed under lockdown, and the professors and prefects began a massive search.
Meanwhile, Ser Cadogan, who had replaced the Fat Lady, was dismissed, and the Fat Lady returned to her position as the keeper of the Gryffindor common room. Compared to Ser Cadogan, who always hurled vulgar insults at young wizards, the Fat Lady was far more competent.
At least she won't let just anyone who knows the password through. Although she hasn't fully recovered yet, the school has hired a group of trolls to protect her, and they're right next to her.
Aside from the unpleasant smell, it is actually much safer.
Sirius Black's image was pasted on the door of the castle's entrance hall, every corridor, and every classroom. Filch carried an iron bucket and went all over the castle to block every possible hole, no matter how big or small.
Perhaps because the castle had been under martial law for the past few years, this didn't cause much discussion among the students. It had been proven that Sirius's target was Gryffindor. Although it was unclear why he hadn't attacked Harry but instead went to Ron, his purpose was clear, and at least the students from the other houses could rest easy.
Gryffindor didn't care at all; the lion cubs seemed to be naturally thick-skinned, and some were even eager to capture Sirius.
I really don't know what they were thinking.
The wonderful Easter holiday was ruined, but life goes on.
After several busy days, Filch vowed that he had sealed up every hole in the castle that could be plugged, and Gryffindor's defenses had been upgraded several levels. The school finally returned to its normal rhythm.
A week later, the second round of Quidditch began, and the young wizards went to watch with great enthusiasm as before. This time, the professors and prefects were not sitting comfortably in their seats as before; they were all holding wands and standing among the young wizards, ready at any moment.
In reality, such an approach would be completely futile; Sirius Black would never brazenly launch an attack in front of so many people.
But if Ike doesn't say anything, who will know? Besides, he's so engrossed in brewing potions that he doesn't have the time to get involved.
The second round of the competition was very tight, and the final champion was decided at the end of May.
Surprisingly, Ravenclaw actually won, and Roger cried like a child as he held up the trophy. After so many years, he had finally fulfilled his dream.
The match was very close. Hufflepuff was the first to fall behind, losing to Slytherin and Ravenclaw, but winning against Gryffindor. Slytherin was the second to fall behind, losing to both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw; the difference in their Seekers was the main reason for their defeat.
In the final match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, the two teams were surprisingly tied. Just before Harry caught the Golden Snitch, Ravenclaw scored a goal simultaneously, resulting in a draw. In the end, when the point difference was calculated, Ravenclaw won by a mere 20 points.
It was quite dramatic, and it completely eliminated any suspense in this year's Academy Cup, making Ravenclaw's title defense a foregone conclusion.
After the game, Roger and Wood, the only two people who shed tears, hugged each other tightly. One had realized his dream, while the other's dream was shattered. Both wept, but their tears were different.
Ike, who rarely had time to watch the final, stood quietly outside the celebrating crowd, mechanically clapping, but his gaze was fixed on Ron, who was comforting the Gryffindor players with Harry and Hermione.
"It's still there?"
A rat's head was peering out from Ron's shirt pocket; Peter Pettigrew hadn't faked his death to escape!
Unconsciously frowning, Ike silently sorted through the information he currently knew.
"You're really good at keeping your composure..."
He had a guess, but wasn't sure, and according to Ike's calculations, whether Peter faked his death to escape wouldn't affect the final outcome. While everyone's attention was focused on Sirius, they forgot that there was another member of the raiders in the castle.
Remus Lupin.
Ike didn't believe that his acceptance of the Defense Against the Dark Arts professorship from Dumbledore after Sirius's escape was genuinely to teach everyone real knowledge. Besides protecting Harry, he might also have intended to confront Sirius directly.
He certainly didn't believe Sirius would do such a thing. Others might not know, but he knew that Black was Harry's godfather, and it was definitely not like what others said, that he was trying to eliminate any potential threats.
But Black did indeed kill Peter Pettigrew.
That night, Harry lost his parents, the Death Eaters lost the Dark Lord, and Voldemort lost his body. Everyone overlooked the fact that Lupin lost three of his most important friends.
Moon face, insect tail, big feet and pointed fork, only moon face remains in the world.
So, when he had the chance to learn the truth of what happened back then, how could he not risk his life for it?
"Wait a little longer, wait a little longer..."
At first, Ike did consider finding an opportunity to expose Peter Pettigrew, but he quickly dismissed the idea. He couldn't explain how he discovered Peter's true identity.
To ensure the plan went smoothly, Ike had been avoiding getting involved, but unexpectedly, things still changed in the end.
Fortunately, it seems that what's going to happen will happen. Crookshanks has been sent away, security has been increased in the Gryffindor common room, and Peter Pettigrew has chosen what seems to be the safest and most secure place to hide, but he has been completely ignoring Lupin, who is diligently teaching and nurturing students.
"With just a little bit of help... it's 98% certain!"
Ike smiled and quietly left, his mind refining the plan. Suddenly, a scene from two months ago flashed into his mind…
It was a divination class in February. After finishing the lessons on tea and palmistry, Professor Trelawney finally gave everyone a crystal ball and began teaching crystal ball divination.
As one of the most common methods of divination, Ike's curiosity about the crystal ball far exceeded that of other divination methods. After his experimentation, this was his last chance to unlock the divination level.
After leveling up his arithmetic divination to LV5, Ike realized that this method of divination could not truly predict future events. It was actually just a summary of existing clues, and if you removed the parts involving magic, it was not much different from reasoning.
After secretly trying all the divination methods described in the book "Seeing the Future Through the Fog," Ike discovered that only when he touched the crystal ball did he have a subtle feeling, as if something wanted to break through the thick fog and rush out.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts, Ike placed his hopes on Trelawney.
As he had hoped, a line of text suddenly appeared on the useless notepad system:
Talent: Crystal Ball Divination
(Fragments of fate, like clouds and mist, are lifted up, revealing only a hazy outline.)
