Chapter 117 Some Findings in Dementor Research
Chapter 117 Some Findings in Dementor Research
Quidditch is a sport with a very unfortunate history, always full of unexpected events.
But this time is the most serious in recent decades.
The Dementors had a huge impact. Even though they were just wandering around the field, they still made many young wizards, especially the younger ones, feel like all their joy had vanished. Snape and his students from NEWTs had to urgently brew a batch of euphoric potions to alleviate the situation, keeping them busy for quite some time.
Such a significant event was naturally not overlooked by the Daily Prophet, and it was published on the front page the following day. It is said that Minister Fudge was furious, accusing the Daily Prophet of disregarding the facts.
But this time, even Dumbledore, who had always supported him, no longer covered for him. This heinous incident enraged him, and several Dementors even disappeared under the Patronus Charm.
Although it's said that they can return once they've absorbed enough emotions from where they disappeared, that's extremely difficult, almost impossible.
There is one advantage, though: at least Ekko doesn't have to worry about being exposed.
At midnight, after everyone had fallen asleep, Ike carefully slipped into his suitcase.
After his modifications, the suitcase now bears a striking resemblance to the legendary magizoologist Newt Scamander's suitcase. In terms of internal space, the difference is almost negligible, but the internal structure is vastly different; he certainly doesn't have that many magical creatures.
However, large facilities also have their advantages; various experimental sites can be separated, which largely avoids the occurrence of dangers.
Inside the "Non-Existent Magical Creature Laboratory," Ike was sitting in a chair writing notes.
"On November 24, there was still no sign of recovery for test subject one, while test subject two was in good condition, only slightly lethargic."
"It can be confirmed for the time being that the emotions of non-human, non-magical beings cannot serve as food for Dementors, and there are currently no experimental conditions available for magical creatures."
"Number Two still possesses extremely strong resistance to the Death Curse and the Cruciatus Curse. The Fiendfyre Curse can cause damage, but it is not enough to be fatal."
"Key point: LV4 Fiendfire Curse!"
"The 25th experiment with the Soul-Stealing Curse still couldn't break the one-second barrier; all that could be felt was extreme terror and pain..."
As he wrote this, Ike frowned, then picked up a euphoric drink and swallowed it, which made him feel much better.
"...The improved technique for extracting emotions is still usable; with euphoric drugs available, excess feelings of satisfaction can be extracted and fed back..."
"Number Two showed no negative reaction to these emotions catalyzed by the potion."
"Speculation: Timeframe? Scale? They don't care at all?"
"Plan: Human trials - to be determined."
"Fantastic Beasts Experiment - To be determined"
"The Soul-Stealing Curse Experiment—Continue."
"The experiment on mind control—to be determined."
"Completed: Patronus Charm Lethal Experiment - LV2, 1 hour."
After writing the last word, Ike closed the notebook and extinguished the Fiendfire that had been burning on the Dementor's body with a flick of his wrist. As before, there was no particular reaction. He then tossed the satisfied and happy feeling from the euphoric potion he had just used onto it, and it was clear that the Dementor was in somewhat better condition.
The criterion for judgment is simple: the frequency of the Dementor's cloak fluttering.
The slower the frequency, the worse the condition, and vice versa.
"Da, da, da"
Ike tapped rhythmically on the table, his eyes fixed on the Dementor he had magically imprisoned. This was a small achievement in his research on runes and magic circles; the only difficulty lay in the inability to completely prevent the loss of magical power, requiring him to replenish the Patronus Charm's power every other day.
It's fortunate that it's a peaceful white magic like the Guardian Charm; if it were an offensive spell, the duration would be even shorter.
The Explosion Curse lasts a day, the Shattering Curse lasts a day and a half, the Ordinary Fire Curse lasts 18 hours, and the Fiendfire Curse lasts only half an hour.
The Death Curse cannot be preserved.
The Guardian Charm's strength has been adjusted by Ike to be just enough to prevent the Dementor from escaping without harming it. And as an intelligent being, it clearly knows how powerful Ike is.
Although it couldn't see it, the unique emotional fluctuations that Ike exhibited while thinking and researching were deeply ingrained in its very being.
If it has such a thing.
After replenishing the cage's energy, Ike carefully locked the lab door and quietly climbed out of his suitcase. With the help of the Disillusionment Charm, he quietly arrived at the Room of Requirement, took a pleasant bath, and then obediently returned to his dormitory to sleep.
After receiving the Rost Purifying Agent from Snape, this became something Ike did almost every night; he didn't want to hear Snape's sarcastic remarks about it anymore.
That was definitely not a good experience.
The weekend arrived quickly, and Ravenclaw had their first Quidditch match. Because Slytherin had rearranged the match order, Hufflepuff had their rematch just a week later.
Whether it was the lingering effects of the previous bad weather or the significant improvement Ravenclaw had made under Roger's pressure, the Eagles dominated the Badgers throughout the game. With a 50-point lead, Cho even caught the Golden Snitch before Cedric could.
A 200-point victory was something Ravenclaw hadn't achieved in years, and the common room erupted in chaos that night, with fireworks, butterbeer, candy, snacks, and occasional pointless shouts.
"Win the championship!"
Roger, now brimming with confidence, shouted, and Stuart and the other team members echoed him enthusiastically. Even Qiu, who usually seemed out of place among these rough men, perfectly blended in.
They completely forgot that in just one week they would be facing Gryffindor, and the little lions, having lost their first match, would certainly be giving it their all.
As one of only two people in the entire Eagle School who remained clear-headed, Ike certainly wouldn't pour cold water on things at this time; if he were to, he would wait until tomorrow.
"They've all had their brains ruined by the harassing fly."
The other, more awake Luna, spoke in her unique, somewhat ethereal voice.
"Maybe, but there's nothing we can do to help them."
Ike shrugged.
"We can't possibly beat Gryffindor," Luna said.
"Don't tell them."
Why?
"For no reason," Ike shook his head. "Those whose brains have been damaged by harassment flies can't stand hearing this news."
"Okay." As she spoke, Luna suddenly stared intently at Ike, her eyes darting around. "You're thinking about something dangerous."
"I felt it."
"No, that's not it." Ike's eyes turned colder, but his expression remained unchanged.
"You're mistaken."
"Huh? Maybe, I can't feel it anymore."
"These things always happen; it's definitely the harassing fly's fault!"
As he spoke, he clapped his hands in the air, as if he were driving something away.
Ike quietly moved away from Luna and went over to Stewart and Anthony, who were drinking butterbeer. He smiled, picked up a glass, and joined them in the moment.
