Chapter 100 Preliminary Research on Non-Existent Magical Creatures
In the magical world, there exists a species born from and feeding on human emotions. When the conditions for their birth are met, they appear abruptly, and under certain conditions, they vanish suddenly.
It is a consensus in the current magical world that non-existent magical creatures cannot be truly killed. Furthermore, according to historical records, no wizard has ever truly destroyed a non-existent creature using magic. Therefore, all existing magic capable of dealing with non-existent creatures aims at expulsion.
For example, the Cursed Charm is for Boggarts, and the Patronus Charm is for Dementors...
With the help of Occlumency and the Patronus Charm, Ike didn't scream like other young wizards, nor did he show any fear. Instead, he carefully observed the three Dementors in front of him with an inquisitive mind.
After confirming that the three guys wouldn't be able to get in anytime soon, Ike even summoned his notebook and quill pen and began taking notes.
"...relatively weak, possesses independent consciousness but has low intelligence..."
"...The cloak appears to be a magical item. Judging from its appearance, the Dementors can only move around using the cloak; no lower limbs have been detected yet..."
He scribbled quickly in the notebook with a quill pen, circled "magical item," and added a question mark at the end.
"...The hood obscures the face, making it difficult to see, but judging from the hands, the face is likely 'skin and bones' as well..."
"...Perhaps we should lift it up and take a look?"
As Ike pondered this, he channeled his full power into Occlumency, but the Dementors continued their relentless pounding on the glass. After a moment's thought, Ike extinguished the white light emanating from his wand.
As he expected, the three Dementors paused abruptly. Although they continued to knock on the glass, the frequency gradually slowed down.
Ike waved his wand, dispelling the protective magic on the box door, and incidentally helped the three Dementors who had been busy for half a day by opening the door directly.
The Dementors obviously couldn't understand why the door would open after they'd been banging on it for so long, but that didn't stop them from floating in to search.
However, under the protection of Occlumency, Ike blocked out all his emotions, simply staring at the Dementors with emotionless eyes, quietly waiting for his chance.
The private room wasn't large to begin with, and from the outside, it looked like the three Dementors had filled it up completely as soon as they entered. But Ike didn't feel "crowded." The three cloaks floated against his body, giving the impression that it was just a single cloak, and there didn't seem to be any substantial, tangible body inside.
It was cool, a silky yet chilling cold; even under the Occlumency spell, Ike's goosebumps involuntarily rose. However, the Dementors still hadn't noticed the living person among them, circling several times without success.
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Ike suddenly reached out and grabbed the hood of a Dementor, yanking it up to reveal a gray face, also covered in scabs. The face consisted of only three dark holes, a pair of empty eye sockets, and below them a large hole whose outline constantly shifted.
The Dementor was clearly startled; its mouth opened wide, almost half the size of its face, and it made a "clucking" sound. This is a behavior that Dementors exhibit when they are absorbing human souls.
Unfortunately, the moment Ike lifted his hood, he jumped backward onto the table, narrowly missing the target.
He quickly raised his wand, a wisp of white mist appearing at the tip. Just as Ike was about to shout "Patriot!", a large, bright, spinning white light pushed a bunch of Dementors flying from one end of the carriage. Ike reacted swiftly, using a Patronus Charm to push the three Dementors out of the carriage.
Not long after the white light passed, the male and female presidents of the student council and the prefects of each college came out and, led by a middle-aged wizard in tattered clothes, checked the students' condition in each carriage.
The situation was still relatively optimistic. Apart from Harry still being unconscious, only a few dozen younger students were crying their hearts out in fear. The older students were much more optimistic; as soon as the train started moving again, they gathered in small groups to boast about their performance.
After all, that's a Dementor! A creature infamous throughout the magical world!
The train had clearly sped up, yet it still arrived at the station on time. Ike straightened his school uniform, leisurely disembarked, and strolled towards the Thestrals carriage.
"Where have you been, Ike?" Stewart and Terry asked as soon as they saw Ike at the boarding point.
"I found a carriage to sleep in; I really didn't sleep well last night." Ike greeted the others, and together they boarded the carriage, chatting and laughing. He sat down in the innermost seat and leaned back lazily.
"Is that so? Okay then," Stewart said. "Did you see those Dementors?"
"Oh my god, they are so scary! I think they are even more frightening than what I read in the books."
"That's right!" Terry nodded in agreement. "If it weren't for that magic afterwards, I think I would have died!"
"Huh? Right, what kind of magic is that?"
"The Guardian Charm," Ike replied with a smile. "The oldest and most powerful defensive white magic in existence, the bane of Dementors."
"It is said that only a very few upright and powerful wizards can successfully use this magic..."
"Of course, that's just a rumor, but it's true that the vast majority of dark wizards can't use the Patronus Charm..."
Ike straightened up slightly, pointed outside the carriage, and said, "I think everyone should start learning the Patronus Charm."
"Look outside; learning something is always better than not learning anything."
"Good heavens!" Stuart exclaimed, "Why would Dumbledore allow these guys to be here?!"
"Didn't you read the Daily Prophet during your vacation? Of course, it was for Sirius," Terry said. "He's the Dark Lord's most loyal servant! He escaped from prison to kill Harry Potter!"
"It's clearly written in the newspapers!"
"Of course I know," Stewart scratched his head, "but you can't expect these guys to catch Sirius, can you?"
"He escaped from Azkaban, who knows how he did it!"
"There are far more Dementors in Azkaban than here," Stuart said, a hint of disdain in his eyes.
"These are not things we need to worry about," Ike interjected. "With Dumbledore and the professors, plus Aurelius, we don't need to concern ourselves with these things..."
"Instead of wasting time, why don't you guess what key the Gryffindor twins will use when they sing the school song this year?"
"Last year's aria was truly awful..."
