Chapter 1 The Boy from Gloucester

Chapter 1 The Boy from Gloucester

"Mr. and Mrs. Flixen, please come this way. Little Ike usually reads under the oak tree in the backyard at this time."

Ms. Julianne's face was beaming with smiles, making her appear even more kind.

"This child loves reading, and often forgets to eat if no one calls him."

Mrs. Flinson frowned, a hint of doubt in her eyes. "Isn't this child a little... I mean, a little too withdrawn?"

"No, no, no, Ms. Furison," Julianne quickly replied. "Little Ike is just a little quiet. In fact, he has many friends, and all the children in the yard like to play with him."

"Dean Julianne," Mr. Fleason said calmly. As a partner at Gloucester's premier law firm, he knew perfectly well what this orphanage director was trying to conceal.

"Perhaps we should talk to this 'Little Ike' you mentioned first. After all, only face-to-face communication can truly help us get to know someone, right?"

“Of course…” Julianne seemed a little hesitant, “As you wish, Mr. and Mrs. Fleason.”

The three arrived at the backyard of the St. Mary's Welfare Home and saw a boy sitting under a large oak tree, holding a book in his hands. Sunlight filtered through the dense leaves of the oak tree, falling on the boy, creating a peaceful and serene scene.

"Little Ike, Little Ike," Julianne called out. Ike Streid looked up at the sound of her voice, calmly closed his book, stood up, walked a few steps to Julianne, and gave a slight bow.

"Good afternoon, Dean Julianne. And good afternoon, sir and madam."

"Hello, little Ike," Mrs. Flyson replied with a smile. Clearly, little Ike had made a very good first impression on her.

Her clothes were a little large, but very clean; her white shirt was neatly tucked into her trousers. The cuff of her right sleeve was rolled up, revealing a section of her fair arm. Her trousers were also rolled up, just covering her ankles, and draped over her light brown leather shoes. Her pale blue eyes were clear and captivating, and her short, black hair was slightly disheveled, but not at all bothersome.

"What a handsome young man!" Mrs. Fleason said with a smile. "Isn't he, my dear?"

Mr. Fleason nodded, extended his right hand, and said, "Nice to meet you. You can call me Mr. Fleason, and this is my wife. You can call her Mrs. Fleason."

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Fleason."

Ike reached out and shook hands with Mr. Fleason, then smiled at Mrs. Fleason standing to the side.

"My name is Ike, Ike Streid."

"Hello, Mr. Strand." Mr. Fleason nodded, while Mrs. Fleason, standing beside him, replied with a smile, "But I think you might want to change your name. How about Ike Fleason?"

"Oh, so... you've decided?" Julianne asked happily.

"That's right, I don't think anyone could dislike a child with an angelic smile," Mrs. Flyson replied with a smile.

"Ike, I think you should understand what's happening now. Yes, you're going to have a new family."

"I'm sorry." Ike still had a smile on his face. "Mr. and Mrs. Fleason, I actually think life at St. Mary's is very good, and I have no intention of changing my environment."

"Ms. Julianne," Mr. Flyson's tone became flat again, drawing out the last syllable, "I think you need to give us an explanation."

"This..." Julianne seemed somewhat at a loss. "Sir, believe me, this child just doesn't want to leave here, he will..."

"Dean," Ike interrupted Julianne, who was about to explain, "I have no intention of leaving. Wasn't that agreed upon long ago?"

"In that case, I'll take my leave, Dean Julianne." Mr. Flyson raised his hand to stop Julianne, took Mrs. Flyson's hand, nodded to Ike, and turned to leave.

"Wait, wait, Mr. Fleason..." Julianne hurriedly chased after them, but Fleason's attitude was firm, so she had no choice but to see the two off, patting Ike's head with a helpless expression.

"Little Ike, tell me yourself, how many couples have you rejected for adoption?"

"This is the seventh couple since I can remember." Ike ducked away from Julianne's hand, his expression remaining calm. "You know, I am, after all, somewhat..."

"Is it special, child?" Julianne said. "But haven't you already gained control?"

"Of course." Ike nodded. "But there's always a chance, isn't there? Who knows if something like what happened five years ago will happen again? You know, I don't want to hurt anyone."

Julianne hugged Ike tightly, gently stroking his head with her right hand: "Little Ike, you... well, never mind, whatever you want, I won't find you another adoptive family."

"Thank you, Dean Julianne." Ike looked up and gave a bright smile.

Julianne smiled, pinched Ike's cheek as if in revenge, patted her head, and walked away helplessly.

Don't forget dinner time.

"I won't forget."

Ike watched Julianne leave, sighed softly, turned back and sat down under the oak tree, looking up at the sunlight filtering through the leaves. Suddenly, a few lines of text appeared before his eyes.

Name: Ike Strayder

Age: 11 years and 283 days

Title: Blessed by Magic (Magic only blossoms among a select few, and you are one of them)

The oak tree will protect you (the oak tree will always protect you, and so will all the other trees).

Brain Sealer (A mist protects your brain, hiding your most secret secrets)

Julianne's favorite (Yes, it's you, it's you, it's you)

Talent: Magic Affinity

Skill: Occlumency (Customized Version) (Your most secret will remain unknown to others. As for the rest, it's up to you.) (Cannot be upgraded)

Knowledge Acquisition (You will learn new knowledge faster than others, but that's all) (Cannot be upgraded)

These few simple lines are Ike's greatest secret in life.

Ike recalls his memories from when he was five years old, which also brought about the most serious crisis in the history of St. Mary's Welfare Home.

That night, Ike had a bizarre nightmare, filled with scenes of joy, sadness, excitement, and despair flashing through his mind. With the final scene, an unidentified creature suddenly darted out from the roadside. He instinctively slammed on the brakes, and the steering wheel jerked violently…

Then, Ike woke up.

What came into view was Dean Julia looking at him with a horrified expression, and a room full of flying things.

A cabinet, shoes, six beds, and five children sleeping soundly in the beds.

Ike was also stunned, and subconsciously wanted to restore everything to its original state.

Fortunately, he did it.

Even Ike didn't know how he did it.

In the following years, through continuous experimentation, Ike was finally able to control this telekinetic-like ability well, but he could no longer make everything in the house fly.

Yes, far more than just those in Ike's house flew up that night.

Otherwise, Julianne wouldn't have been so frightened that it took her half a month to recover before she could walk steadily.

Dean Julia was a very kind person. As the only witness that night, she didn't feel any fear or apprehension towards Ike; instead, she was full of worry. She often secretly talked to Ike and gave him many strange books.

For example, "Witches: The Roots of Medieval Turmoil," "Witches and the Black Death," "One Hundred Ways to Defeat Vampires," "The Devil Is All Around You," "The Bible," "Learn Magic from Scratch"...

Etc., etc.

Good heavens, I have no idea where Julianne got all this junk.

Of course, the final outcome was good. By the age of 10, Ike was already able to control this power.

After Julianne controlled the three pebbles to fly and shuttle rapidly in front of her, Julianne found five adoptive families for Ike in just one year.

Of course, according to Julianne, her abilities were limited and she couldn't provide Ike with a good education; Ike deserved a better environment and a better education.

This can be seen from the identities of these five families.

Lawyers, doctors, teachers, managers, and researchers are all highly educated elites.

However, Ike did not want to leave St. Mary's Home, firmly believing that no one would be more tolerant and understanding of him than Julianne.

After all, he was "Julian's favorite".
