Chapter 12 - Redemption

Over here, Qian Renxue and Qian Lingyun took turns cultivating, and the woman in the green dress had also gone to bed early. However, the city lord's mansion was bustling with people coming and going.

The city lord anxiously inquired of the healing-type soul master and doctor he had summoned, "Doctor, how is my son's injury?"

"The second young master's injuries are not serious, just some external wounds and bruises. He just needs to rest and recover... But..." the doctor said, giving the good news first.

"But what?" the city lord asked疑惑地. "Speak freely!"

"But... the second young master's genitals have been completely crushed. To prevent the wound from becoming necrotic and thus save his life, we've cut it off. That means... he may never be able to... have sex again in his life," the doctor said with a somewhat embarrassed expression. The city lord stood there stunned, smashing things around the room with a furious rage.

Still seemingly not satisfied, he summoned the city defense team captain and roared furiously, "You, seal off the city gates! Search every inn and restaurant! Make sure you capture those two little beasts!"

"I'll make them wish they were dead!"

"Yes, I'll go right away!" The city defense team captain accepted the order and left, leading his men to wander around the streets.

After a while, the obese man slowly woke up, struggled a couple of times on the bed, and said in a hoarse, croaking voice, "Father, why does it hurt so much! Where am I hurt?!"

"Sigh..." Seeing his good-for-nothing youngest son's pale face and listless appearance, the city lord didn't want to discourage him, so he could only comfort him:

"Don't worry, those two little beasts' father has already sent people to catch them. You should rest well and deal with them yourself once you've recovered."

And so the city defense team patrolled back and forth in the city, and almost every inn and restaurant was inspected several times over.

As the moon set and the dawn's light painted the distant horizon with a pale white, the city defense team members began to return home in twos and threes.

"Old Wang, why are you heading towards Gentle Lane? You've been busy all night, yet you still find time to relax there. You've got real energy!" The city defense team's foreman yawned and waved to the lone figure. "You should probably go home soon!"

"Got it, Brother Bai, I know what I'm doing!" The middle-aged man with a weasel-like face waved his hand without turning his head, glanced around furtively, and seeing that there were no pedestrians on the road, chuckled and then swaggered in, twirling his catfish whiskers.

As he walked, he deliberately tossed the few silver soul coins in his hand, making a soft rustling sound.

……

"Have some breakfast before you go! I don't have anything valuable to offer you here," the woman in the green dress said, carrying two bowls of warm white porridge towards Qian Renxue and her companion.

Qian Renxue shook her head, smiled kindly, and waved her hand to indicate that she wasn't hungry. Qian Lingyun, on the other hand, took the bowl without any hesitation and began to eat it obediently.

After the woman in the green dress left, Qian Renxue pinched Qian Lingyun's soft waist with displeasure and said, "You ate her food, what are they going to eat?"

"Sigh!" Qian Lingyun put down her chopsticks and shook her head, saying, "Sister Xue, I don't think you understand anything at all!"

"Don't understand what?" Qian Renxue's expression hardened, clearly a little guilty, after all, she really didn't know as much about this kind of thing as Qian Lingyun.

"Of course it's about interpersonal relationships! When you were seizing the country, you were so busy scheming against that old fox that you've forgotten how to get along with ordinary people!" Qian Lingyun said, taking out a handkerchief and wiping the rice grains from the corner of her mouth.

"She already knew we were Soul Masters yesterday, and she brought out gifts to treat us, but you just refused her outright. Although... your intentions were good, it... gives people a feeling of being... taken advantage of, understand?"

"You're still too young!"

As she spoke, Qian Lingyun shook her head, feigning emotion.

"Damn it, you little brat, you're actually lecturing me now..."

Seeing that smug expression, Qian Renxue angrily rubbed Qian Lingyun's head.

After a while, she glanced at the sky and said angrily, "It's dawn. Let's go see if the city gates are open! If they are, we'll leave."

"Mm," Qian Lingyun nodded in agreement, then bid a brief farewell to the homeowner.

Just as they stepped out of the courtyard, their figures were spotted by a pair of squinting eyes at the edge of the alley. The owner of those eyes stroked his beard and exclaimed in surprise, "This is truly a case of 'searching high and low without finding it, only to have it come to me effortlessly!' It seems that heaven is blessing me with a promotion and wealth, hahaha!"

Yes, these are the city defense team members who had just finished their shift. After walking around the alley, he realized that he had arrived too late. Almost every house had someone staying overnight, so he had no choice but to leave disappointed. Who would have thought... that he would just happen to see Qian Renxue and her companion leaving the house.

His narrow eyes darted around, and after memorizing the approximate location, he took off running towards the city lord's mansion.

.........

Fifteen minutes later, Qian Lingyun leaned against the wall listlessly, chewing on a steamed bun she had bought from a roadside stall, and muttered, "Looks like we're not going to be leaving through the main gate today."

"Okay, we won't leave during the day, we'll just fly out at night." Qian Renxue glanced at the heavily guarded city gate, then pulled Qian Lingyun and turned to walk back the way they came.

"Hey, hey, I haven't finished eating yet..." Qian Lingyun hurriedly stuffed the remaining half of the bun into her mouth, and was dragged back by Qian Renxue. On the way, she mumbled, "Da Botian, Ya Ya Qieqie's teasing Buhao." (It's not good to be pulling and tugging like that in broad daylight.)

Walking back to the alley called Tender Love Lane, Qian Lingyun frowned, sensing that something was amiss.

The Rakshasa armor within her seemed to be telling her that something might have happened here…

"Oh no!" Qian Lingyun's expression turned cold. She grabbed Qian Renxue and ran towards that woman's house. When they returned to the once clean and tidy courtyard, her heart skipped a beat.

In just half an hour, this once orderly courtyard became a mess.

The same was true when they entered the inner room. The floor was littered with shards of porcelain bowls and wood chips, and the two chairs that were there were broken into pieces. Few of the other furniture was intact either, as if the room had been ransacked by bandits, leaving it in ruins.

"..." Qian Lingyun fell silent. This was the first time she had truly felt the guilt of dragging others down because of herself. She looked at Qian Renxue for help.

Qian Renxue smiled slightly, made a throat-slitting gesture, and comforted her, "Let's go! We, the Angel Family, have no reason to stand by and watch someone die, especially since this matter arose because of us."

"Yes, I got a general idea yesterday. The city defense team is the ones making the arrests. Let's go take a look over there." Qian Lingyun raised her hand and summoned the Rakshasa Demon Scythe, which was shrouded in purple light.

Gazing at the subtle dark light emanating from the Rakshasa Demon Scythe, a hint of bewilderment flashed in Qian Lingyun's eyes.

In the dim light, she seemed to hear that gloomy whisper echoing in her heart; it... was bewitching her.

Qian Renxue, suppressing her disgust for the Rakshasa power, kindly reminded him:

"Like the Rakshasa deity, the Rakshasa Scythe can tempt people to fall. My mother became paranoid because of its influence. If possible, try to use this thing sparingly to avoid your mind being corrupted by its evil thoughts."

"I know, but there are special ways to deal with special situations. I'll just use it less often!" Qian Lingyun nodded in deep agreement and casually put away the ominous scythe.
