Chapter 985 Heavy Defenses
Chapter 985 Heavy Defenses
To heal the mutated soul of a third-tier wizard, one must risk contaminating the materials from the red worms and faceless beings.
It surprised many people that Alek, who valued experimental materials so highly, would agree to this.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, the rest of the procedures proceeded smoothly.
Soon, the soul and vessel of the third-tier wizard were cast into the stargate.
Thor stood at the outermost edge of the experimental area, watching a half-meter-long flesh-colored worm pass through a point in the night sky that was invisible to the naked eye, and suddenly disappear.
Even mental energy couldn't detect the other party's presence.
This was Thor's second time seeing the stargate, but it was as if he hadn't seen it at all.
Mental energy should be able to scan the location of the Star Gate, but if it's too obvious, the people at the Star Gate won't allow it.
Just as Thor was hesitating whether to test the waters with the Fate Thread, Murridge suddenly appeared nearby and said respectfully, "Lord Thor, the Queen has stabilized. Would you like to go over now? We can also assist you with some testing experiments."
Now?
Thor looked in the direction of the stargate. "Looks like your experiment went very smoothly. So, are you starting to kick everyone out now?"
Saul bluntly exposed Murridge's true intentions.
Then I saw Murridge across from me suddenly break out in a cold sweat.
"Don't be nervous." Thor turned and left. "Hasn't your chairman been protecting you all along? Let's go. I'm not really interested in your stargate."
This time, Murridge didn't even dare to see them off, and instead had another third-tier wizard escort Thor and Douglas away.
Once the two figures disappeared from the teleportation array, Murridge immediately returned to Alec's side. "Chairman, are you really going to hand over the Red Worm Queen to Thor and the others?"
"What are you afraid of?" Alik kept staring at the stargate, just as he had for the past few decades.
Murridge's eyes narrowed. "Given their current understanding of the migration plan, could they also leave the wizarding world via red worms in the future? I'm worried that if they inadvertently attract the attention of some being using the same disguise, could it cause us trouble as well?"
"Unless they also have dozens of Faceless Men."
"Speaker, Thor possesses Gust's soul. That guy was once the strongest Faceless One, and might have clues about the other Faceless Ones. Should I try to lure him out again?"
"There is a secret connection between Gust and Thor. Thor specializes in dark magic, and his control over souls is definitely beyond your imagination. Your actions may actually arouse his suspicion."
Murridge lowered his head and said nothing more.
Alec sensed his subordinate's resentment and chuckled, "Are you afraid Thor will attack you? Don't worry, no matter how much he hates you now, he'll only dare to make sarcastic remarks. Just don't appear in front of him alone again."
Murridge was naturally unwilling to be humiliated by Thor time and time again. Although he was the one who started the provocation, even a third-tier wizard like him could not tolerate being repeatedly humiliated by Thor, who was of the same rank.
"Yes." Murridge lowered his head helplessly.
Regardless, Thor still wouldn't dare kill him.
……
After Thor returned from the stargate, he sent a signal from the observatory.
When they returned to the underground base, Byron was already waiting nearby.
"This?" The wizard leading the way recognized Byron, but he didn't expect Thor to have a second-tier wizard following along.
"Anyway, the Stargate will hand over the Red Worm to us in the future, so why do you care who I bring to study?" Thor said jokingly, then pushed the other person to continue walking forward.
"You're right. I don't think the Speaker would object to you bringing your subordinates in." The third-tier wizard considered for a moment and then agreed.
Seeing that the other party readily agreed to let him enter the underground base together, Byron's tense shoulders relaxed a little.
Then he heard Thor's whispered message: "Don't worry, the Stargate is not what it used to be. After deciding to abandon the cornerstone of the Wizarding World, they no longer have the same control over their people."
Byron nodded in realization.
Alec certainly knew this, but he just didn't care.
Who cares if trash that's already going to be thrown away will be buried in the ground or burned in the future?
Following the familiar path, we entered the underground base again and arrived at the deepest white warehouse.
Before entering the underground, Thor not only concealed his spiritual body but also cast a spell around himself to conceal his aura.
The wizard who had led the way then went down first.
Whether it was Thor's protection that worked, or the Queen had been completely calmed by the Stargate, this time when Thor saw the murky pool and the giant egg inside, the Queen inside did not riot.
Corey, who had been watching over the pool, was also relieved.
Today, Curry didn't wear the glamorous tulle dress. Instead, she changed into a black fitted jumpsuit and a dark purple shirt. However, the neckline and cuffs were still covered with large ruffles and lace, which didn't change her usual style of dressing.
As Saul approached, she offered him a notebook.
"I was afraid something might go wrong today, so I didn't go outside to greet them."
Thor waved his hand. "I didn't need to be picked up anyway. I can come in by myself next time."
Thor and Douglas quickly skimmed through the notes. They contained information about the queen's habits and theories on how to control her.
But all that has been given to Thor so far is the theory, not the details.
Clearly, Stargate intended to wait until they were completely gone before handing the Red Worm Queen over to Thor.
Another disgusting practice is to only provide the queen insect but not the control measures.
However, Thor didn't care; he certainly wouldn't use the Stargate Council's methods to control the Queen.
This is not what Thor wants—a queen that can only lay eggs and hatch larvae of red worms in the pool.
"Byron and I are going down to take a look," Thor said, then turned to Douglas. "Do you want to come with us?"
Douglas, however, had already pulled up a chair and sat down, saying unhurriedly, "So many people have already gone down, one more won't make a difference. I'll just wait here for your data."
Saul discovered that Douglas often didn't like to conduct experiments himself; he preferred to analyze and calculate the data after receiving it.
He didn't use instruments or paper and pen when calculating formulas; he just analyzed them in his mind, and his conclusions were basically consistent with those of Thor's deductions.
Corey, however, seemed a bit troubled. "The water in this pool has a very special complex composition; every drop is extremely precious. You have no problem going in, but you need to collect it all after you come up. We can't waste it."
"It seems this pool of water is the key to the Stargate's ability to trap the Queen." Thor walked to the edge of the pool, squatted down, and examined it closely. "How are you going to collect all the water?"
"Use this." Corey had an apprentice bring out a glass dish with a leech-like worm wriggling in the middle.
"What is this?" Thor looked down at the worm inside and discovered that the leech-like worm had mouths at both ends.
The insects in the glass dish lay quietly, their fate unknown.
"According to our analysis, it should be a cocoon formed when the queen lays eggs."
"I'm taking one back with me," Thor said directly.
"This..." Corey didn't have much authority, so he could only look at the third-tier wizard who had brought Thor over.
The latter could only bite the bullet and say, "I'm sorry, Your Excellency Saul, the Speaker means that you can only observe from here for now. You cannot participate in the experiments, nor can you take anything away."
Bringing other people in is fine, but taking away important materials... is not allowed.
Thor returned the glass dish to Corey without pressuring the two of them, and casually asked, "We'll use these bugs to clean the pool water off us after we go into the water, right?"
Corey nodded expressionlessly.
Thor laughed. "Alright, I agree. Let's go in."
