Chapter 983 First Encounter with the Queen Insect

After spending so much time in the Stargate Council, Thor was finally going to see the Queen. Even though it was Morridge who proposed it, Thor didn't refuse.

Unexpectedly, the Queen was not on the hidden world side controlled by the Stargate, but in the underground base that Thor and Agu had visited.

But upon further reflection, Thor understood that he couldn't keep the living red worms and the queen too close together, or he would lose control of them. And if the queen was intelligent enough to see so many red worms rendered inactive, she probably wouldn't be as obediently controlled by the Stargate Council as before.

Thor and his group moved from the laboratory to the underground base.

The person who greeted him was an unexpected acquaintance.

"Curry?" Thor glanced back at the Stargate Wizard who had come with him—Arik, of course, hadn't come.

"Thor." Corey, who was usually expressionless, gave a slightly bitter smile. "I didn't expect to see you here."

"Your consciousness has returned?" Thor knew from Corey's appearance that she had overcome the abnormal state she had experienced in the port city.

"Yes. After I met you, I originally intended to pass on the information about the Red Worm to you, but I was taken away halfway." Corey led Thor into the base. "It wasn't until I was brought here that I realized I had been monitored by the Stargate Council all along. I've been an observation subject for several years."

Corey had been trying to send a message to the Radiant Family, but she later learned that the person controlling her was actually the Stargate Council, where the Radiant Family was located.

Even some high-ranking wizards from the Radiant Family participated in the Stargate migration plan. The rest of the family members almost all retreated back to the Radiant World side and no longer ventured out.

"Only I was brought back here because I passed the test of the red worm."

"Hmm. But at least we survived." Thor didn't judge Glow and Stargate's actions. "You're here to look after the Queen?"

"Yes, after observing me for a period of time, Stargate found that I have good willpower and can be used to influence the Queen's mind, so they arranged for me to work here."

In reality, calling it an arrangement was no different from imprisonment, since she was not allowed to leave the underground base.

"Red worms don't affect a person's mind, but does the queen worm have that ability?" Thor immediately discovered the key information.

Corey nodded. "Our analysis suggests this is a unique self-protective ability of the queen. Other red worms haven't inherited this ability from the queen. And thankfully, they don't have it."

Otherwise, Stargate would have already become the other side's experimental subject.

Thor kept talking to Corey about the red worm, while Douglas, standing to the side, seemed more interested in Corey.

"So you're the witch who's been brainwashed by the Stargate Council's wizards multiple times, but always manages to break free?"

When Corey first met Douglas, she didn't know why, but looking at this calm-looking man, she felt a little nervous.

This feeling came on inexplicably.

She naturally felt fear and apprehension when facing enemies stronger than herself, but she felt inexplicably nervous when facing Douglas.

"I... I don't know why I was able to break free," Corey said in a very soft voice.

"That must be because your mental strength is special. You specialize in light-attribute witchcraft, right?"

"Yes."

Corey was taken aback. She hadn't been able to advance to the third tier because she hadn't accumulated enough resources to open the gates within her body. But she never expected that a wizard would tell her today that understanding oneself was more important than relying on external resources.

If she could really push open that door herself, why would she have wasted so many years?

As they spoke, the group arrived at the warehouse where the Queen Insect was located.

A giant, pure white warehouse.

At this moment, Agu in the diary suddenly spoke up to remind me.

[Master, this is the warehouse where Murridge... killed Fiona.]

"Understood." Thor followed Corey inside without hesitation.

The warehouse was also spotless, showing no sign that anyone had ever been beheaded there.

Corey walked to the center of the warehouse, invited the others to enter, and then activated a magic circle to close the warehouse door.

"The Queen Insect is located beneath this warehouse. Once you enter the lower level, you are strictly prohibited from using your mental powers to avoid triggering a riot by the Queen Insect."

After explaining the precautions for entering the lower level, Corey waited until everyone had expressed their agreement before activating the magic circle beneath their feet.

The magic circle glowed faintly, just like the one Fiona used to besiege Agu. However, this time there were no dark arcs of light. Instead, the ground moved and deformed continuously, eventually forming a downward staircase within seconds.

Thor followed Corey down. Because he had to carefully suppress his mental energy, he could only observe with his naked eyes. But now, even with his naked eyes, he could see many things.

As his vision gradually descended below the floor, a huge pool came into view first.

The underground space is vast, with many facilities and several wizards and apprentices.

But what really catches the eye is the huge pool of water not far away.

The water in the pool was murky, and the surface rippled slightly.

As Thor descended the stairs, he saw a huge white egg underwater.

He had seen similar eggs in the laboratory at the observatory; those were new carriers made of inactivated red worms and faceless men, also stored in liquid.

But the one in front of him gave Thor a completely different feeling.

All the other "eggs" were dead, but the one in front of me was alive and clearly aggressive.

The moment Thor saw it, its shell bulged out.

Corey, who had been walking steadily down the stairs, immediately quickened his pace and almost ran down the stairs.

Thor stood still, letting the others speed up and overtake him.

"Something seems to have gone wrong." Douglas slowly walked up to the same step as Thor. "This is the Queen they value so much? She doesn't seem... that powerful."

Thor stared at the Queen of Insects in the pool, who was still struggling violently. Several wizards had already jumped into the water and were trying to soothe her in some way.

"Don't say that," Thor whispered to Douglas. "We paid a heavy price for this."

When you're swearing, don't swear at yourself too.

"Ahem." Douglas coughed twice and then fell silent.

Thor wondered, "Was the Queen so agitated because she discovered me? Or could she spot the starry eyes hidden on my body?"
