Chapter 926 Defending Tower 1
Chapter 926 Guarding the Tower
Maria looked at Thor.
She was naturally pleased that someone was stationed here immediately. This was one of the outermost wizard towers, responsible for intercepting the most powerful Black Tide monsters, so dispatching a third-tier wizard to guard it was actually a very difficult task.
However, she was also a little worried, after all, the mission here was heavy and dangerous. But thinking about how easily Thor had dealt with the big-headed monster fish before, Maria felt that Thor's strength should not be a problem.
The only concern is that the other party might not understand the situation here. After all, they aren't the wizards of the Wailing Wall; would they be willing to take on the most dangerous and troublesome task when the Black Tide attacks?
Considering Thor's identity, Maria decided to tell Thor all the questions and let him make his own decision.
To everyone's surprise, Thor didn't hesitate at all. "No problem. But I'm only stationed here temporarily. Once the Black Tide passes, I'll be returning to the No Man's Land. You'll still need to send another Tier 3 wizard."
Maria breathed a sigh of relief. "No problem. It's just that time is too tight right now, and I was worried that we wouldn't be able to coordinate everything. It's so kind of you to help."
The other three wizards were also pleasantly surprised.
When someone is willing to take on the most difficult tasks, it naturally makes things much easier for them.
Maria thought for a moment, then pulled Thor aside and deliberately used a secret language to say to him, "Thor, there's something I need to remind you beforehand. This place should be the front line of the defense against the Black Tide. Your mentor, Lord Gorsa, he... he probably won't participate in the battle. It was precisely because we anticipated that Lord Gorsa wouldn't be involved this time that Lord Murphy sent over a rather powerful third-tier wizard. It's just that we didn't expect..."
Thor was taken aback for a moment, but then he realized what was happening.
The mentor must follow the Black Tide into the Eye of the Abyss when it recedes. The danger there is many times greater than the Black Tide defense battle. Even the mentor is not confident of returning alive, so naturally he must preserve his strength.
But after a moment of silence, Thor remained unmoved. "I understand. I will defend this place."
Maria looked at Thor and felt a warmth in her heart; she felt a strong urge to hug this young yet brave wizard.
If you really count their ages, she could be his great-grandmother.
However, Maria also has important work to do and cannot replace Thor.
"I will assign you a wizard apprentice who is most familiar with this place. If you need anything, you can come to me."
Thor readily agreed, "Okay. Also, I'd like to bring my friend Claire with me. She's a very powerful second-tier wizard, is that alright?"
"Of course, no problem." Maria readily agreed. If it weren't for the shortage of high-level wizards, she would have liked to send another one to garrison Thor.
After all, this is the first time the opposing team has been stationed at the Wizard Tower in the Storm Sea, and it's uncertain whether they can adapt to the battles here.
Maria had secretly decided that when the Black Tide really arrived, she would pay close attention to the situation here whenever she had the energy.
I'll lend a hand if I can.
"Then let's go back together. To guard the wizard tower here, we need to leave our signature on the Wall of Sighs; otherwise, we can't activate all of the wizard tower's functions."
After going around in circles for so long, we still have to return to the Wailing Wall.
But it's also a good opportunity to bring Keli along.
Hmm, I wonder if Klee will be so nervous about being so close to Instructor Gorsa that she'll start shaking her legs?
There were no further incidents on the way back.
No wizards went missing, nor did any Black Tide monsters that shouldn't have appeared at this time show up.
The five men escorted the corpse of the dead third-tier wizard back to the Wailing Wall.
The dead wizard seemed to be quite famous, so when others saw the body, there was a great uproar.
While Maria's announcement of the deceased caused some commotion, it also served to heighten everyone's vigilance and prevent further disappearances.
After handing the body over to a wizard skilled in reconstructing the cause of death, Maria led Thor to a three-story building located at the corner of the Wailing Wall.
This building seems to be the communication center of the Wall of Sighs. People inside are in a hurry, exchanging information after entering, and then leaving quickly.
Maria led Thor straight up to the third floor. Unlike the first and second floors, which had many worktables, the third floor was a spacious hall that was completely open.
In the center of the hall is a crystal wall. One side of the crystal wall is covered with dense golden patterns, looking somewhat like a circuit board.
The other side is engraved with a large number of complex patterns, most of which are accompanied by the name of a wizard.
This is the place where Maria said I needed to leave my signature so that the Wizard Tower on the Storm Sea would recognize me as its master.
Maria stepped forward and gently slid her hand across the side covered with names.
The text and patterns on the crystal wall began to move left and right like a mobile phone screen, and could be enlarged and shrunk according to her gestures.
Maria quickly and skillfully located the pattern of the wizard's tower that would soon belong to Thor.
The area below the pattern is blank.
There should have been a third-tier wizard's name there, but it disappeared after the other party suddenly died.
Saul noticed that on the right side of this pattern, there was a similar but different pattern, and below that pattern was Gorsa's signature.
The mentor's signature was elegant and flowing, just like him—no, like his disguise.
Maria zoomed in on the space reserved for Thor's signature, then stepped aside. "Thor, you can sign your name here using your magic. This crystal hub will transmit your magical signature to the corresponding wizard tower. During this time, the wizard tower will be fully open to you. Before you leave, come back and erase your name."
"Okay." Thor stepped forward, ready to sign his name, but was suddenly stopped by someone.
"Wait a minute." Murphy's figure instantly appeared between Thor and the crystal wall.
"Lord Murphy!" Maria immediately bowed respectfully.
The other wizards on the third floor immediately stopped what they were doing and turned to face Murphy.
"Don't worry about me," Murphy said with a smile. "You guys keep going."
The others then turned back to their work.
Murphy patted Saul on the shoulder. "You're only temporarily stationed here for a month. You don't need to sign your name."
Thor did not speak.
He felt the reason couldn't be that simple.
"Alright." Murphy shrugged like a playful old man. "Actually, it's because your mental and magical power is too domineering. If you sign your name, no one here will be able to enter that wizard tower for a while."
"Alright then, as long as I can get in, I can try to make the wizard tower obey me myself." Thor didn't seem to care.
Maria meant that without signing, the Wizard Tower's full functionality couldn't be used, probably referring to the tower's built-in defensive array, which Thor didn't really need anyway.
As for Keli, if there's any real danger, let her go to the Chaotic Realm to hide first.
"No problem. I certainly won't make you feel wronged. I'll have Haili assist you in guarding the Second Wizard Tower. Although he's only a third-level wizard apprentice, he's lived on the Wall of Sighs since childhood and has served as an assistant to many wizards. He's an excellent kid. It's just a pity that his talent is a bit lacking, and he's been unable to advance to a full wizard."
Thor readily agreed, nodding, but out of the corner of his eye he saw Maria's mouth agape, as if she had heard something incredible.
Why are you so surprised?
"Uh, does Hailey have some kind of special identity?"
Murphy laughed. "No, they're all wizards and apprentices from the Wailing Wall. There's nothing special about them."
