Chapter 844 The Letter That Couldn't Be Sent
Iskapper Continent.
One of the affiliated residences of the Stargate Council.
After finishing organizing the documents in his hands, Corey leaned back in his high-backed chair.
Today's work is done, but the remaining time will probably only be used for meditation, and there will be no time to carry out other slightly more complicated experimental research.
Although Corey's face remained expressionless, he was actually somewhat depressed inside.
Since failing to qualify for the third tier in her competition with Thor, she has had to accumulate resources and contribution points on her own. This has resulted in her having endless tasks every day, leaving her with insufficient time for self-improvement.
If she ever manages to accumulate all the resources, will she still be able to get promoted?
Corey shook her head; she didn't have the energy to think about these things right now.
Many things have happened at the port she guards recently, and even some wizards have become strange.
Especially the wizard Ole, whose recent behavior has been so strange... that Corey suspects he may have been corrupted and mutated!
Since his last confrontation with Thor, Wizard Ole's temper has become increasingly eccentric. He used to focus more on cultivating magical creatures and had an unusually fervent interest in all kinds of plants, so his daily diet consisted mostly of meat, which he had no interest in.
But recently he has started eating grass.
This was hard for Corey to understand.
If that were all, Corey would only find it strange and wouldn't speculate about alienation.
What made her uneasy was something else entirely.
Corey discovered that the wizard Ole sometimes seemed to be hallucinating.
Once, Corey was reporting his recent work to Wizard Ole when Wizard Ole's expression suddenly changed. He wrote a note, got up to put it into a nearby transmission device, but instead of activating it, he sat back down and told Corey to continue his report.
Although the time was short, Corey noticed that a thick stack of paper strips had been placed in the transmission device.
Just a casual glance revealed about ten photos.
At the time, Corey was wondering, "If a piece of paper doesn't need to be transmitted, why put it into the machine? Normally, a piece of paper that has already been transmitted should be destroyed."
A stack of slips of paper in the transmitter indicated that Wizard Ole had already placed many slips of paper inside.
However, none of the information on those notes may have been delivered.
Corey didn't know what was written on the note. And according to protocol, she shouldn't have inquired. The note's contents were likely secrets that someone of her rank shouldn't have access to.
So although Corey found it strange at the time, he didn't say anything.
Later, Corey discovered that when the wizard Ole took the wooden coffin out, he would always tidy up the roots inside the coffin over and over again. Sometimes he would even reach out and grab some air from outside to put into the coffin.
It was as if he had actually grasped something.
However, Corey saw nothing.
Even with mental power, no object could be detected.
Most importantly, when Corey discussed Wizard Ole's unusual behavior with the other wizards, none of them sensed anything amiss.
"Hasn't the Wizard of Ole always been like this?"
They would even say things like that.
This left Corey speechless for a moment before he returned to his expressionless state.
Corey sat at his office table, deep in thought.
"This unusual situation is beyond my comprehension. Is the council plotting something again? And am I being ostracized because I'm from the Radiant Family?"
After much thought, this was the only conclusion Corey could reach.
"Regardless, the situation here must be reported to the clan chief. Perhaps the clan chief will understand what exactly happened!"
With this in mind, Corey made up his mind, took out a brand new piece of parchment, and wrote down his recent discoveries and his speculations.
After writing down everything, Corey rolled up the parchment, went to a corner of the room, and deliberately lit a lamp.
The patriarch of the Radiant Family and the head of the Tribunal are both wizards who specialize in the light attribute.
There were even rumors that the Tribunal Chief Frim and the Radiant Clan Chief Norton were actually two branches descended from the same ancient wizard.
But neither of them has ever admitted to it.
Corey was about to use this special lamp to send out the message.
The normal procedure would be for her to place the rolled-up parchment letter in the wick for five seconds, and the contents of the letter would be transmitted to her people on the side of the Radiant World.
To prevent others from discovering the contents of the letter, Corey would then throw the parchment into the fuel furnace beneath the lamp to destroy it completely.
However, today, just as Corey raised his hand halfway up the parchment, he suddenly threw the letter into the fuel furnace below.
The fire crackled and popped, its flames licking the parchment, turning the pale yellow paper into fragile pieces of black ash.
At this point, if someone were to carefully examine the fuel furnace, they might find many of the same black ash.
Corey stood silently in front of the fuel stove until everything disappeared, then sat back down at the long table and leaned back in his chair, lost in thought.
"I've been so busy with work lately. If this keeps up, I won't even have enough time to meditate..." Corey thought with a hint of annoyance, his face expressionless.
……
"Sol, are you writing a letter?" After sulking for a while, Alfonso finally came to find Sol, only to find him sitting behind the table, writing something.
Upon closer inspection, the first line of the letter read, "Dear Professor Gorsa..."
Alfonso pursed his lips, lost in thought.
After a moment's pause, he finally asked that pointless question.
Saul had spotted Alfonso the moment he entered. He didn't openly display the contents of his letter to Alfonso.
This letter is already more than ten pages long.
Unfortunately, if wizards want to have a serious conversation, they have to clearly explain the causes and consequences, as well as the formulas and calculations. Otherwise, it's difficult to accurately convey their meaning.
Thor's writings mainly concern body modification. The master of body modification he knew was his mentor, Gorsa.
Although Thor's current level has caught up with Gorsa's, he knows that the other party is currently working hard to advance to the fourth tier and has long said that he will complete the advancement within one or two years.
They're probably at a crucial moment for promotion right now.
Therefore, after much consideration, Saul decided to write to his mentor, Gorsa, to discuss the matter.
However, although Saul did not avoid Alfonso, Alfonso did not peek at the contents of Saul's letter.
Alfonso could almost guess what Saul would write in the letter just by seeing the beginning of it.
It is said that the bloodline fusion experiment between Thor and Royer did not go very smoothly. Two consecutive experiments failed to achieve the desired result.
Moreover, Harry, the subject of their experiments, is currently on the verge of a breakdown.
Thor must be asking his former mentor about bloodline fusion.
However, when Saul looked up, he gave an answer that surprised Alfonso.
"Yes, I wrote to my mentor, who is very skilled at making various containers and performing magical modifications. I think the mermaid's corruption might be due to important changes in her body that we've overlooked. I'm asking my mentor for advice on how to detect these physical anomalies and turn them into an advantage!"
