Chapter 833 Royer's Invitation
Chapter 833 Royer's Invitation
Saul closed the door.
This was the third nobleman he had refused to visit.
"If he's still like this, don't bring him to me again," he said to the attendant beside him.
"But..." the servant said with a troubled expression, "Lord Coggle represents a duke of Eternal Night, and I can't afford to offend him."
Saul tapped his chin. "Then tell them that the next person to bother me will become fish food."
Seeing the servant's astonished expression, Thor smiled and did not reiterate that he was not joking.
Anyway, if someone actually comes, then people will know whether he was joking or not.
Thor returned to the palace, where there was still one guest present.
Royer leaned against a pillar in the middle of the palace, laughing happily.
"These nobles are annoying, aren't they? But don't worry, they're smart too. They'll keep testing your patience, but as soon as you show the slightest sign of impatience, they'll obediently back down."
Royer curled his lip. "Those that didn't know to be returned have already been cleaned up."
"I hope so," Thor said softly. "I don't like keeping fish."
Royer nodded. "I don't like them either, but there's nothing I can do. Mermaids are like nutrients for the Red Sea Tree. Without them, the Red Sea Tree cannot continue to grow."
He followed Saul into the laboratory.
Royer is shameless; as long as Thor doesn't directly stop him, he dares to follow him in and look through other people's notes.
Thor glanced at him sideways but did not stop Royer from coming in.
From the surface of these materials, Royer could not discern the raw materials used in what he was fusing.
For example, what has the little algae eaten?
The most conspicuous thing on the lab table at this moment was a soft, red lump of meat.
The lump of flesh trembled precariously, and seemed to try to escape as Roye approached, as if it had its own consciousness.
"What is this?" Royer bent down and carefully examined the red flesh.
"The mermaid I brought."
"Ha, you kept it by your side as a special pet, thinking it was something special, and you just killed it like that?"
Saul poked the lump of flesh in front of him with a glass rod. "We keep it because it's useful; we kill it because it's useful too."
The red mass of flesh resembled a drop of blood freshly spilled onto a glass vessel, seemingly on the verge of shattering, yet maintained stable due to surface tension.
As expected of a third-tier wizard, Royer noticed the problem after only a few glances.
"A consciousness is infused into this mass of flesh and blood?" A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. "How did you manage to keep this consciousness conscious even though it's completely contrary to human physiology?"
"Let the consciousness adapt first; it'll get used to it," Thor said casually. "Besides checking on my experiment's progress, is there anything else you need to do here?"
Royer straightened up. "Haha, how can you call it an inspection? It's just a discussion. But speaking of which, Alfonso looks a bit dull, but he's been studying mermaids for decades. If he can't solve a problem, I don't expect you to be able to solve it right away. Even if you say you can't do anything about it in the end, I won't blame you."
He leaned closer to Thor. "To be honest, I came here because I wanted to work with you."
Thor put down the glass rod and pushed the mass of flesh that he had deliberately shown to Royer back into the isolation chamber.
"What kind of cooperation?"
"To create a new royal family." Royer casually draped his arm over Thor's shoulder. He was a bit shorter than Thor, so the gesture was a little awkward for him. "I know Alexandra has been contacting you a lot lately, but whatever he promises you, I can give you something of equal value."
Saul remained calm. "He and I are old friends. You can find out if you want."
His actions in Bluewater Bay were not particularly secretive. If a high-level wizard wanted to investigate, it would be easy to uncover the truth from the slightest clues.
Of course, some details are difficult to define.
Especially what happens underwater.
"Old acquaintances?" Royer scoffed. "What kind of relationship could a wizard have with an ordinary human? It must be that Alexandra has some treasures passed down from her family, right? I can guess what resources she has; they're nothing more than some special magical artifacts passed down from ancient times."
His guess was in the right direction, but he hadn't considered that Saul was also seeking cooperation.
Moreover, he could not have imagined that Alexandra's ancestors had actually reached a custody agreement with the emperor of the Black Flame Empire, entrusting a magical artifact that ordinary people could not use but wizards coveted to others for safekeeping.
Thor naturally wouldn't mention the details of his deal with Sander. "So, what terms can you offer me?"
"Why would I be the one setting the conditions? I'm not the one who wants to be emperor," Roye said with a grin.
"Who wants to be this puppet emperor?"
"Alessandra's stepmother. She had a child with the previous emperor. Unfortunately, he didn't inherit the bloodline of the mermaid royal family like Alessandra. So after the old emperor died, we brought Alessandra back and sent her and her child to a small inland mountain village."
"So, when they heard you were going to use the new mermaid royal bloodline for the fusion, they immediately rushed over to sign up?"
"Register? You're quite right with that word; they did shout out their names loudly. But I also considered that their family has experience in successfully fusing bloodlines, so the success rate of fusing new bloodlines would be higher, which is why I brought them along."
Thor wasn't initially interested in Royer's experiment, as he was already too busy with his own affairs.
On one hand, they must treat the contaminated infectious disease of the mermaids, and on the other hand, they must create the third goal of the symphony of destiny.
But just as Saul was about to refuse, a question suddenly occurred to him.
"If I help you conduct a bloodline fusion experiment, will I be able to access the mermaid royal bloodline stored in the Tribunal?"
Royer stroked his chin. "So you're still interested in mermaids after all! Alright, if you can help me with the fusion experiment, I can promise you right now that I'll give you at least one-tenth of the original royal bloodline for initial research."
Royer winked at Saul. "How about that? I'm pretty generous, aren't I? I heard you haven't even touched Alfonso's share yet. Haha, don't let his businesslike demeanor fool you, he's actually quite stingy."
Thor clicked his tongue. "Then let's give it a try. I'm not interested in fusion bloodlines, but I've been eyeing the original royal bloodline for a long time."
Royer’s gaze seemed to casually sweep across the entire laboratory before finally settling on a small water tank.
"Are you going to raise other kinds of fish?"
The small glass water tank is currently empty and completely clean.
"Not fish." Thor changed the subject. "When will the bloodline fusion experiment begin?"
"They're really impatient!" Royer, having achieved his goal, walked outside. "In a couple of days, in a couple of days, Lord Airo of the Black Flame Empire will arrive tomorrow. All projects will have to be suspended during this time. We'll resume our experiments after we've entertained him."
