Chapter 822 The Truly Protected

Chapter 822 The Truly Protected

Thor didn't stay on the seabed for long; by the time he returned to Royer, he had composed himself.

"You see, mermaids are actually pretty boring," Royer laughed, thinking Thor's expressionless face was due to disappointment at seeing the group of mermaids. "You've probably seen that mermaid named Coral, right? But those atavistic mermaids are just exceptional cases. And Alfonso has done dissection experiments; atavistic mermaids are even less adaptable to pollution than the mutant mermaids we create. They're just pretty but useless trash. Of course, if you really like them, I can have Alfonso send you one, the healthy kind."

Thor didn't reply, but pointed below and asked, "Can I take one back to study?"

Royer didn't care. "Who cares if there's one less fish in the sea?"

That means you've agreed.

Thor planned to pick one to take with him before leaving.

While observing the languid mermaids below, he continued his conversation with Roye about the Red Sea Tree.

After all, Royer was only interested in the Red Sea Tree.

"Without the Red Sea trees, how significant would the impact of the Kuroshio Current pollution be on residents on shore? How widespread would it be?"

Thor had seen the No Man's Land swallowed by the Black Tide in the preview of the Golden Pages.

It's safe to say that no one survived.

So how much will the pollution be reduced in power after being diluted by the ocean?

Royer didn't answer Saul immediately. "Well, there are too many influencing factors. I need to calculate it. But I can lend you some historical data. The Tribunal was also established around that time. Of course, many things are not exactly the same as now, so it can only be used as a reference."

Thor nodded; he naturally understood these principles.

"Actually, the Tribunal's transformation of the Red Sea Tree wasn't primarily for the protection of the coastal residents," Royer suddenly said seriously. "Can you imagine who we were really protecting by expending so much manpower, resources, and magical magic to turn the southeastern coast of Neflet into a Red Sea?"

Thor had originally intended to say that he was protecting the wizards of the Tribunal, but then a thought suddenly struck him, and he blurted out, "Protecting the continent of Neflet?"

"Brilliant!" Royer clapped his hands. "When the Eye of the Abyss appeared, it devoured an entire continent. Back then, the remaining fifth-tier wizards on Neflat and Iskeper, in order to survive, directly drove the two continents away from the Eye of the Abyss, just to prolong their lives. However, the wizards on Iskeper were better at escaping, so Iskeper is now well protected, situated between the continents of Stath and Neflat."

Royer sneered.

"Now all the fifth-tier wizards are dead, and the mutations are gone. Even fourth-tier wizards can't move the continent; they can only stay here and wait to die."

"Is the tribunal just waiting to die?" Thor didn't believe it.

People who are waiting to die won't make so many small moves.

Royer looked up at Thor, clearly having something to say, but he had no intention of telling Thor.

"If you join the Tribunal, you might become one of the few who know the truth," Royer tempted Thor. "You know, for wizards, knowledge is sometimes more important than magic."

Thor smiled but didn't say anything.

His identity and status are special. If he were to declare his intention to join the Tribunal, the Stargate Council would definitely be the first to turn around and hunt him down.

Even Gorsa couldn't save him.

Royer clearly wasn't going to consider Thor's feelings that much. Seeing that Thor didn't express his opinion, his earlier enthusiasm waned considerably.

"Think it over carefully. Staying in the sea for too long isn't comfortable. Let's go back."

After saying that, Royer floated to the surface of the water.

Thor followed immediately.

Although Royer did not emphasize that Thor should not be left alone in the sea, Thor was still quite self-aware.

His current situation, to put it nicely, is that of a guest in a grand hall; to put it bluntly, he is a prisoner.

It seems like there's more freedom than in Sky City, but in reality, you have to be careful with every step you take.

As they drew closer to the sea, Thor pondered, "I still need to advance to the fourth rank. As long as someone is above you, there will always be times when you have no control over your own destiny."

Thor thought about the people he had met these past few days, but for a moment he couldn't think of anyone who could become his third target.

Life in the Tribunal is too stable; a stable fate line can't provide much of a force for destiny.

The only things that are somewhat interesting right now are the mermaid coral and the puppet emperor Sander.

However, both of them are too weak in actual strength and would die easily.

Although Thor could find another target after he dies, it would still be troublesome.

Moreover, he didn't really want to stay in Neflet.

Back on the surface of the sea, the two cleaned up the excess seawater and dirt.

"Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that treating the mermaid was the Lord's order, I would want to drag you to my laboratory right now."

Looking at the mermaid in Thor's hand, Royer frowned in disgust. "Once you cure their illness, I will suggest that the Court Master carry out a new round of modifications on the mermaids to maximize their reproduction rate. That way, no matter how many die, we won't feel bad. You and Alfonso will then be able to free up your energy to do some truly useful experimental research."

Royer disliked mermaids and believed that experiments on them were a waste of time.

But he couldn't change Flim's decision, so he could only complain verbally.

Previously, the main complaints were against Alfonso.

Now there's another person to complain about: Saul.

Saul didn't refuse. "Once I finish my current task, I'll definitely visit your lab."

After visiting the Red Sea Tree today, he had some initial ideas for a renovation plan.

He simply doesn't have time to develop these ideas further, so he can only keep his inspiration to himself.

After leaving the Red Sea, Thor and Royer parted ways.

He took the mermaid he had casually picked up from the seabed back to the palace where he was temporarily staying, while Roye was summoned away halfway there.

They left in a hurry and didn't know what had happened.

For the next three days, Thor conducted research on treating the pollution in his room, while Kate gained a mermaid companion.

This playmate is just too stupid; all he does all day is eat and sleep.

The mermaids eat the polluted stems of the Red Sea Tree. These stems also contain a special substance made from the blood extracted from Sand.

This special substance is to mermaids what catnip is to cats—it has a fatal attraction. Even though they feel unwell after eating Red Sea Tree stems, mermaids cannot resist its allure.

Kate wanted to try the tuber, but Saul stopped her.

"Actually, you don't need to worry about my health." After spending more time with Thor, Kate also found that this guy always softens his heart when it comes to people he approves of.

"Instead of experimenting on these mermaids who can't express themselves, why not try it on me? I can give you more accurate feedback on the results."

Despite her disfigured face, Kate spoke frankly, seemingly unconcerned that she might end up on the lab table because of it.

Actually, we can also enter a mermaid's body!

Herman was inspired and also offered advice to Saul on his treatment research.

Saul considered it for a moment and knew that their suggestion made sense; experiments with feedback were always more accurate.

But just as he was about to import the consciousness from the diary, someone knocked on the palace door of his residence.

"Lord Thor, Her Majesty Alexandra requests your presence."
