Chapter 755 Interrogation
Chapter 755 Interrogation
"Dead?"
Upon hearing Saul's description upon his return, Kate surprised herself by sticking out her tongue and licking the corner of her mouth.
"Drowned in a basin of water? Really... there are all sorts of ways to die."
Saul remained leaning against the single bed, still holding the same book he had taken with him when he left.
But instead of reading the book, he stared at the air in front of him, a look of confusion on his face.
He seemed to be explaining something to Kate, or perhaps organizing his own thoughts.
"I examined the white porcelain kitten. There was no magic on the outside or inside. The overall construction materials were just the most ordinary clay and the most ordinary pigments. It was not a magical material."
"That could also be murder," Kate said. "This person is a liar and probably has a lot of enemies."
Saul tapped his chin lightly with the spine of the book. "I checked his luggage, and there were large sums of money in it. But no one had touched his luggage, so it shouldn't be for money or revenge for being cheated."
Kate initially didn't care whether a conman lived or died. But he suddenly realized that Saul was investigating very seriously.
They seemed quite concerned about the cause of the swindler's death.
Kate propped herself up and listened intently to Saul's words.
"I also examined his soul, trying to understand the cause of his death by probing his consciousness." Saul paused his gesture of tapping his chin with the spine of the book. "But his soul was gone."
"Meow?"
"His soul vanished completely, cleanly, like a bowl you've licked clean."
"...Whatever makes you happy."
Thor chuckled softly, lay down on the bed, covered his face with the book, and looked like he was about to go to sleep.
"In any case, this trip is unlikely to be boring."
When Kate saw Saul lie down, he curled up in the chair again and closed his eyes.
"Whatever makes you happy..."
For a third-tier powerhouse on an airship, even if something unexpected happens, it's like watching a play to him.
What's there to worry about with just a cat?
The next morning, Kate understood why Saul had said the trip wouldn't be boring.
Because their room door was violently banged on early in the morning.
"Mr. Saul! Mr. Saul! Are you in there?"
Thor slowly opened his eyes.
He only slept for an hour last night, spending the rest of the time meditating.
The reason I haven't gotten up yet is because a normal person would be very sleepy at this time and wouldn't wake up immediately to open the door.
Kate had been awake for a while. Ignoring the increasingly loud knocking, she stretched like a cat and then turned to look at the scenery outside the small round window.
Just as Thor was thinking it was about time to go over, the door to the room was suddenly opened silently.
At the same time, a faint magical fluctuation spread in through the small hole in the door lock.
"Hmm? The door is wide open? You seem quite adept at it."
Saul sat up, the book on his face falling onto his lap. "What's wrong?"
He was expressionless, looking as if he hadn't woken up yet.
Why did you open my door without my permission?
His gaze swept over the three or four people outside the door, finally landing on the middle-aged man standing against the left door frame.
That man should be a wizard apprentice. Judging from his mental energy fluctuations, he has already reached level three, so there's no need to worry about the thirty-year-old apprentice's mutation problem anymore.
The other person had a gloomy face and looked more like someone who had been woken up early in the morning than Thor.
Thor looked puzzled and asked, "Is there something wrong?"
The servant who had once guided Thor spoke first.
"Mr. Saul, there's been an accident involving one of our passengers on the airship. We'd like to get some information from you."
"Huh?" Thor feigned a slight surprise, then pointed to himself. "Me?"
Five minutes later, Thor was taken alone to an empty room on the upper floor.
The room was very clean, with only a wall of cabinets, a long table, and two chairs.
Everyone else left, leaving only that gloomy man.
He asked Saul to sit down, and then sat down opposite him.
"My name is Paul, and I'll ask you a few questions. Don't try to lie."
Paul, a third-level wizard apprentice, placed a candle on an empty table. He lightly touched the candle with his fingertip, and it hissed and burned.
Saul stared at the candle until Paul pulled out a chair and sat down, then he looked at Paul again.
"You're very bold, but it's okay. As long as you tell the truth, I won't make things difficult for you." Paul leaned back in his chair, seemingly not too concerned about interrogating Saul.
"Are you a wizard apprentice?"
"Just answer my question," Paul said in a low, firm voice. "What's your relationship with businessman Mike?"
Sure enough, they discovered Mike's death.
Wow, that's incredibly efficient!
The other person died in the bedroom at night, and they discovered the clues in the early morning.
Do they check passengers' vital signs every day?
"Mike and I only met after exchanging a few words while queuing together before boarding," Saul said truthfully. "Did something happen to Mike?"
Paul still didn't answer Saul's question, but instead asked again, "Someone saw you two meet again in his room after dinner. Why would people who were just queuing together need to meet after dinner?"
Solton shifted his body slightly and sat up straighter.
Paul, seeing Saul's reaction, immediately narrowed his eyes.
Thor's gaze lingered for a moment, then he suddenly took a breath. "Well, actually, now that I think about it, it's quite unbelievable. If I tell the truth, I'm afraid you'll think I'm still lying."
Paul glanced at the candle and said like a dead man, "You don't need to worry about that. As long as you don't lie, I can guarantee that innocent people won't be implicated."
Saul suddenly found it somewhat amusing that Paul was making such a promise to an ordinary person.
Is this guarantee just empty talk, or is it sincere?
"All right."
Next, Saul told Paul about his conversation with Mike in the room.
Of course, when it came to rolling dice, he only said that he was good at it, without explaining the specific reasons why.
Paul was clearly not interested in Saul's past; he seemed to rely on the candle on the table to confirm that Saul was telling the truth.
But when he heard Mike take out a white porcelain kitten, he suddenly sat up straight, which had been leaning against the bench.
"A white porcelain kitten?" He stared intently at Thor. "What color are the kitten's eyes?"
"red."
Are you sure?
"Yes, that little porcelain cat was entirely white except for its red eyes, so I remember it very clearly."
Paul seemed a little restless.
This piqued Thor's interest even more. "My lord wizard, have you also heard of 'The Cat Returns'? Can that little white porcelain cat really bring good luck?"
But Paul still didn't answer him, and instead asked Saul one last question.
Was Mike still alive when you left the room?
"Alive...you mean he's dead now?"
Paul stood up, but said, "You can go now."
Thor opened his mouth, then quickly closed it again. "Okay."
He got up and left the room.
Outside the door stood several servants who had just come with them.
They looked at Saul, who emerged unharmed, with obvious surprise, and all turned to look at Paul inside the room.
Paul made a gesture, and the people quickly made way for him.
Thor glanced into the room, where the only wizard apprentice was frowning, deep in thought.
