Chapter 735 Dean Pang

Chapter 735 Dean Pang

"Meow! We're back!"

Kate felt Saul loosen his grip on the back of his neck and immediately jumped to the ground.

After releasing the orange cat, Thor immediately looked around. "The Whitebeard Wizard hasn't come out yet?"

But he wandered around the city at night for a long time without finding the white-bearded man, and thought that the other man had already found the exit.

Actually, if Thor hadn't been looking for an opportunity to steal tree seeds, he wouldn't have lingered inside for so long.

"Oh, don't worry about Wilde, he's a cunning fellow, he won't die in there."

After being brought out by Saul, Kate became noticeably more obsequious.

The black liquid he had just tasted left him with lingering fear.

He was afraid that if Thor got upset, he would spit in his face.

"Oscar Wilde?" Saul exclaimed upon hearing the name. "It's unlikely to be a coincidence. I never imagined the captain of the land-based ship would be hiding here. Does he already know who I am?"

While Saul was thinking, Kate was still sighing.

"Baidong Academy has become like this, I bet even their dean has turned into a flower bud. The one we're looking for... wait?"

Kate stopped mid-sentence because he noticed that a person had suddenly appeared on the previously empty tree stump.

An old man with disheveled hair, a wrinkled face, and a dazed look in his eyes.

"Dean Pound."

Despite the long time that had passed and despite the significant changes in the other person's appearance and demeanor, Thor recognized him immediately.

Dean Pound of Bydon College.

"Is that Dean Pound?" Kate exclaimed with delight, about to go over, but stopped when she saw what was behind Pound. "Those are the roots we encountered!"

Behind Dean Pangde, there were dense, thin roots growing.

These roots are connected to the center of the tree stump.

The slender root canals resembled human blood vessels, and one could vaguely see something being transported to the elderly Dean Pound.

"How did these roots get here?"

Thor slowly walked forward. "These are the roots of the upside-down tree; it's normal for them to appear both inside and outside. Don't come any closer."

After saying that, Thor stepped forward and approached Pound. "Dean, do you remember me?"

The bewildered dean raised his head slightly upon hearing Thor's voice, but quickly lowered it again.

"Is he like those shadowy figures inside, devoid of self-awareness?" Kate was clearly concerned about the dean.

He was also hoping to get a way to open the door from the dean.

Saul also wanted to have a good talk with Dean Pound.

Although the other party is not the actual controller of Baidong Academy, he has led the academy for so many years and certainly knows more about Beth and the Upside-Down Tree.

Although Char has already been sent to steal the tree seeds, it doesn't stop Thor from trying again through Dean Bydon's connections.

To ensure success, he wouldn't mind making a deal with the dean as well.

"Can you hear me?" Thor released a burst of mental energy, scanning Dean Pound's entire body.

Unexpectedly, the opponent's physical condition was excellent, almost comparable to that of a peak second-tier wizard.

However, Dean Pound's mental state is definitely problematic.

When Thor scanned him with his mental energy, his mental body didn't even have the most basic stress response.

"Perhaps the soul is inside the inverted tree, while only the body remains outside?"

Thor raised his hand, his index finger transforming into a tentacle, and touched Pound's brow.

A moment later, Thor released his grip. "Strange, the spirit is still there, and there's no excessive contamination."

Thor took two steps back, observed for a moment, and then suddenly laughed. "I've been exposed to too much pollution lately, and my brain has become rigid. This isn't an effect of pollution; it's witchcraft."

He cast a level 0 "Clear Mind" spell on Dean Pound.

Although it was only a level 0 spell, when cast by this level 3 wizard, its effect was almost comparable to level 3 or 4 spells.

A moment later, Dean Pound, who had been looking numb, suddenly shuddered and almost fell over, but was pulled back by the roots that had pierced his body from behind.

Large beads of sweat immediately appeared on his face. Clearly, while Thor had brought him back to his senses, he had also restored his consciousness, leaving him tormented by the roots behind him.

But the dean was a tough guy. Although he was almost knocked down by the sudden pain, he quickly adapted, endured the pain in his back, and looked up to face Thor.

"It's you?" Pound's face actually broke into a smile. "I heard you went to the No Man's Land. I didn't expect that when we meet again, you would have already advanced to the second-tier wizard. No wonder you are Gorsa's student."

Thor turned his head to look behind Dean Pound. "Don't you need to worry about your own condition?"

Pound turned his head slightly to check his back, but his neck was in excruciating pain as soon as he twisted it halfway.

Even though he was a seasoned wizard with a lot of experience, he couldn't quite handle it.

He gave a bitter laugh and said, "I'd rather not care. That way, it'll lessen the pain."

Since the other party wasn't worried about his health, Thor didn't waste any more words. "Beth turned everyone in the inner city to ashes to cover up the fact that she absorbed their spirits?"

Pound immediately showed a pained expression.

Even Thor couldn't tell if this emotion was genuine or not.

"I wanted to save her... but she lied to me. She's not the same Bestana anymore. She's even disregarded the academy's legacy in her quest for resurrection."

"Inheritance? You mean the Upside-Down Tree? Beth's resurrection also harmed the Upside-Down Tree, right?"

Pound smiled wryly, "Although I don't know where you learned about the Upside-Down Tree, you're right. Forcibly resurrecting Beth will consume a large amount of the Upside-Down Tree's essence, which will cause irreversible damage to the tree and may even cause it to wither. In the past, we have always deliberately slowed down the resurrection process to ensure that the Upside-Down Tree would not suffer too much damage."

However, when that madman Char stole the seed, both Beth and the Upside-Down Tree were severely damaged. At this point, according to our original plan, our first priority should have been protecting the Upside-Down Tree, but Beth... she chose to protect herself first, almost completely depleting the Upside-Down Tree's life force!

At this point, Dean Pound's face showed pain again. "She wasn't like this before. She sacrificed herself to protect the academy's heritage."

Time can change a person, and so can experience.

Saul had also died once, but he had forgotten the process of dying.

Looking back now, perhaps that was his good fortune.

However, Thor had no time to lament Pound's fate. He frowned and said, "Char stole... the seed of the Upside-Down Tree?"

Kate, standing behind him, trembled slightly as she forced a laugh, her mustache quivering.

Kate was delighted to see the person who had suppressed her suffer. "He even made a deal with them, treating them first, and then they wouldn't even give him what he wanted, even though it was right there in their body! He lost out, didn't he?"

Pound nodded, confirming Saul's guess.

Thor stroked his chin. "This shouldn't be happening."

He narrowed his eyes, confirming that the causal theory had been achieved. The opponent was only at the first level of strength. Even if he had become the second level inside the inverted tree, he would not be able to resist the guidance of the causal theory of the fate line.

"Since the causal relationship has been established, either Char didn't know he stole the tree seed. But that's unlikely. Or, under those circumstances, he couldn't have given me the tree seed."

Thor wasn't angry. He thought to himself, "Fortunately, I've always had a backup plan."

Then, he smiled at Pound again, "Dean Pound, how about we make a deal?"
