Chapter 587 Taking on a Young Apprentice

Chapter 587 Taking on a Young Apprentice

Thor and Brando ultimately failed to reach an agreement, and the latter had no choice but to leave disappointed.

Gaja Drum stayed behind and continued trading with Thor.

Just because he brought Brando along, which might have displeased Thor, Gaja deliberately lowered the price even further.

As Thor selected goods, he asked Gaga Drum, "Has anything major happened in the No Man's Land lately?"

Gaga Drum tells Thor that they're searching for danger everywhere, ostensibly to establish a code of conduct for the no-man's-land, but Gaga Drum suspects they're looking for something. He just doesn't know what.

The three third-tier wizards seemed to want to join forces, and the Wind Demon and the Firefly Lord, who had some conflicts in the past, also temporarily put aside their grudges.

"Third-tier wizards are all searching for something, and that thing could appear in any dangerous area. They only know it exists, but they don't know where it is, so they can only use the most rudimentary methods of investigation," Thor muttered to himself, chin in hand. "It feels like some kind of prophecy?"

His expression gradually turned serious. "If it really is something that a third-tier wizard would go to great lengths to find, then the prophecy is probably either about something extremely rare or some terrible disaster."

Thor smacked his lips. "I really hope it's the former."

After the transaction was completed, Saul performed a final cleaning of the Gaga drum to remove any contaminants.

From now on, as long as Gaga Drum uses the substitute doll that Thor made for him properly, he will no longer be entangled by the pollution in the huge bag behind him.

Of course, besides the luggage, there are many other pollutants and dangers in the No Man's Land, which are outside the scope of the substitute doll's protection.

Thor returned to the Wizard Tower and saw Noah coming down from the second floor with the butler.

Noah still had a hint of panic on his face. As he went downstairs, he kept looking back and almost fell. The butler, who was prepared, grabbed him by the collar and put him on the ground.

"Lord Thor."

Seeing Thor return from outside, Noah couldn't help but run up to him.

This Noah was prematurely aged and experienced much despair and danger. But his original age was probably less than ten years old.

After he stayed at the Wizard's Tower for two days, his innate liveliness slowly returned.

"Lord Thor, Mr. Hope and I just visited your laboratory on the third floor. It was amazing!"

Noah used to think that wizards were incredibly powerful, their magic was incredibly dangerous, and their behavior was incredibly bizarre.

So his desire to become a wizard apprentice was more driven by a desire to be powerful.

But after seeing Thor's (on the surface) laboratory, he realized that what wizards really studied was knowledge.

Only knowledge can drive people to pursue it relentlessly, day and night, and become fascinated by it!

Noah couldn't understand it yet, but he was captivated by its magnificent world.

"Lord Thor, can I really learn witchcraft from you?" Noah looked up, his face pale, but his eyes were full of light.

Saul had originally intended to ask him whether he wanted a stable but short-lived life, or a dangerous life filled with challenging tasks, but perhaps even shorter?

But now it seems that Noah's choice is quite clear.

"It seems you've made your decision. However, I must warn you that becoming an apprentice may expose you to numerous dangers, and you might even die in a monster attack the very next day."

"Yes, sir. The butler has already told me everything." Noah thought for a moment, then knelt down with a thud. "Perhaps because I've died once, I'm no longer so afraid of death. On the contrary, the thought that I wouldn't be able to peek into your magical world before I die would terrify me."

"Please accept me as your student. I will definitely study hard and do my best to complete the tasks you assign me!"

With a wave of his hand, an invisible force lifted Noah up.

"No need for that. Just call me mentor." Thor instructed the butler to teach Noah the etiquette between wizards that evening, and then led the group to the top floor of the wizard tower.

Noah had only stayed on the first floor of the Wizard Tower for the past two days and had just visited the third floor. Now, following Thor, he continued to go up, filled with novelty and excitement.

When he arrived at the top of the wizard tower, he discovered that from the inside, the circular platform at the top of the tower was actually surrounded by a huge transparent barrier.

From the outside, there is nothing on the top of the tower.

But inside, you can see a huge cube.

He was taller than Thor, and even with his palms outstretched, he couldn't touch the edge.

This cube is entirely black iron-colored. Upon closer inspection, it doesn't appear to be smooth like iron; instead, it seems to be covered with uneven, small particles.

"Don't stare at the patterns on it," Thor cautioned. "Those are blurred magic circles; if you stare at them, your eyes will be drawn upwards."

Noah was taken aback and quickly looked away. "Yes, mentor."

Thor led Noah around to the other side of the cube.

On this cube-shaped wall, hangs a headless corpse.

The upper body of the corpse had been stripped naked. The arms and legs were positioned diagonally.

Upon closer inspection, the corpse had no nails or chains on it; it was as if it had been attached to the cube.

Thor stepped forward, a small knife suddenly appearing in his hand, and gently made a cut on one of the corpse's arms.

The skin and flesh separated, revealing the pale muscle underneath.

There were some faint black and brown impurities on the skin.

Then, black tentacles extended from the back of Thor's neck and lifted him directly onto the cube.

From Noah's perspective, he couldn't see what was on the cube; he could only see Thor crouching down and reaching inside, stirring it like he was churning water.

When he withdrew his hand, his palm was covered with a layer of black, viscous liquid.

The liquid kept sliding down, but halfway down it suddenly shot upwards and grabbed Thor's wrist.

It's like a hand that, just before falling, suddenly leaps up and grabs Thor.

Thor remained unfazed, gently flicking his wrist. The black liquid eventually fell back into the cube without even making a splash.

Thor jumped down from the cube and opened his palm to show Noah.

"I'll give you a month to learn some specialized knowledge. After a month, I'll send you to a sparsely populated place to collect these black particles."

Thor's palms had a layer of fine black granules that looked like sand, but when Thor rubbed them between his fingers, they immediately turned into even finer powder.

"I'll call this black magic powder for now. I'll teach you how to identify and collect it, and I'll leave you some necessities for survival as well as a clone of the small algae."

Your main tasks then will be gathering resources and figuring out how to survive. I won't be able to stay with you all the time, but I'll visit you every now and then to guide your studies.

Noah nodded repeatedly, staring at the black powder in Thor's palm. He had a vague feeling that this thing was magical, but at the same time, it seemed very dangerous.

This made his heart pound, unsure whether it was fear or excitement.

Thor collected all the dark magic powder from his palm into a small, sealed bottle.

He then handed the bottle to Noah, so that Noah would always be familiar with his goal throughout his studies.

Noah carefully took the bottle, clutched it in both hands, and held it to his chest, looking very precious.

"So next," Thor thought about the personnel arrangements, "you'll start by learning the common language of wizards from Agu."
