Chapter 554 The Barbarian Ritual

Chapter 554 The Barbarian Ritual

The giant, hand-shaped monster was so frightened that it shrank back behind the door.

After everyone had come in, the monster closed the door.

Thor saw that the monster had a large head and hands, but a small torso and lower limbs. When it huddled behind the door, it could only lean against the wall or the door to keep itself from falling.

"Who are you?" the old man's voice rang out.

Thor turned around and saw an old man behind the gate on the other side of the passage.

His upper body was intact, and he was glaring at Thor with an arrogant air.

But his lower body was not in a terracotta flowerpot that was as tall as a person.

It's as if it were planted in the soil.

"I'm just passing by and would like to rest here for the night, is that alright?"

The old man sized up Thor, his tone still curt, "Did you have an introducer?"

"The introducer?" Thor was taken aback.

"No one can enter without an introducer! Our settlement is home to a second-tier Grand Wizard; don't even think about forcing your way in."

In such a small settlement, there is actually a second-tier being?

Thor certainly wouldn't easily clash with a second-tier being. Just as he was hesitating whether to skip asking for information and go directly into the Survivor's Forest to find out, another voice rang out beside the old man.

"I'll be his matchmaker!"

Kismet walked out from behind the door with his hands behind his back and a smile on his face.

Thor's pupils contracted, but he remained silent.

The old man in the flowerpot looked at Kismet suspiciously—the latter emanated the magical energy fluctuations of a first-tier wizard.

Do you really know him?

Kismet's smile remained unchanged. "Although it's unexpected to run into him here, he's my brother. How could I not know him?"

"Your brother?" The old man in the flowerpot looked at Thor suspiciously, then at Kismet. "You two don't look alike at all."

Kismet walked over and put his hand on Thor's shoulder. "You're actually discussing whether wizard brothers look alike? Do you think we're unworthy of undergoing body modification?"

"Hmph, alright, I won't ask anymore, you can go in." The old man in the flowerpot was obviously too lazy to listen to Kismet's sophistry. Since he said he knew Thor, then let's just assume he did.

Once the two had stepped out of the passageway within the wall, Saul brushed Kismet's hand away. "Weren't you going to Iskapper? What are you planning to do here now?"

Kismet clutched his chest, looking distressed. "I heard that Master's brother had gone to the No Man's Land, so I rushed over here, thinking of giving you the third golden page I promised you."

Thor crossed his arms. "Oh? So you know where I live now?"

"Of course, the reputation of the Spirit Cleansing Wizard Tower has also begun to spread throughout the No Man's Lands. In fact, just the fact that you gained Clark's approval has greatly increased the reputation of the Spirit Cleansing Wizard Tower." Kismet immediately switched to a smiling face.

"Ha, you know where I am, so you come looking for me here?"

Kismet: "Uh..."

Just as Saul was about to ask Kismet for the golden pages, a boy suddenly ran towards them.

Just as the boy was about to reach Thor, a tall, thin man lunged and tackled him to the ground.

The boy's face was contorted with rage. As soon as he fell to the ground, he tried to elbow the adult behind him.

But then a pair of rough, large hands pressed him down.

The boy looked up and saw the third person, paused, and then stopped resisting.

The man holding the boy's arm, with a full beard, looked up and said to the people rushing over from behind, "I've got him under control, hurry up!"

Two men in brighter clothes ran up from behind. They squatted down at the boy's feet. One held down his ankle, while the other, holding a nail and a hammer, hammered two deep, bloody holes into the boy's feet without hesitation.

"Ah!!!" The boy looked to be eleven or twelve years old; how could he endure such pain?

He screamed as he stared intently at the stubble-faced man holding his arm, and soon began to cry.

The boy's feet were bandaged with dark yellow bandages by the person behind him. The person holding his arms then hoisted the boy onto their shoulder and took him back.

"Drilling holes in the soles of your feet? What kind of custom is that?"

Kismet laughed, "A barbarian custom."

Just then, a wizard apprentice passed by and overheard their conversation. He was about to glare at them when he realized they were two first-level wizards, so he quickly lowered his head and pretended not to exist.

But Thor still noticed the apprentice's reaction. He stroked his chin and thought, "It seems this custom is also related to wizards."

He closed his eyes and recalled.

Before entering here, those seven blindfolded men... did they have a hole in the sole of their feet?

……

Nick's wizard apprentice was furious when he heard others describe the settlement's solemn ceremonies as "savage customs."

But what angered him even more was that he could only bow his head and pretend he didn't exist when facing the two wizards!

He had been stuck at the third-level apprenticeship for twenty years, with no hope of promotion whatsoever.

But upon arriving here, he discovered that the obstacle preventing his advancement had loosened slightly. In his heart, this ritual was incredibly significant!

How can you allow people to make such a comment?

Although he wasn't capable of disciplining two first-tier wizards, he could find someone else!

Moreover, this person is the most powerful person in the settlement... a second-tier wizard!

Their great wizard, Lord Monte!

So Nick, filled with resentment and some inexplicable feelings, took the opportunity of reporting his results to casually complain to the Great Witch.

"That's right, Great Wizard." Nick knelt on the ground, no longer feeling ashamed. "These wizards outside are enjoying the benefits you give them, yet they still criticize your rituals like this. I think they are truly ungrateful and should be taught a lesson."

However, while Nick was rambling on, the high priest opposite him, who was kneeling before him, didn't even glance at him.

The great witch Monte was inspecting the wooden frame that was rotating at a constant speed on the charcoal rack.

A person was tied to a wooden frame and was being roasted evenly as the frame moved.

His skin had turned a deep red, almost black color, but his chest was still rising and falling slightly, indicating that he was still breathing.

At that moment, a drop of white liquid suddenly dripped from his tightly closed eyes.

The shaman's eyes lit up, and he immediately reached out and collected the drop of liquid into the bottle beside him.

"This concentration is good." The great shaman admired it for a while with delight, but when he turned around, he found that the person on the grill was already dead.

"Another one has died." The high priest frowned slightly, then turned to Nick, who was kneeling on the ground, and said, "Go and buy more slaves this time. Now is the peak production season, and I don't want any problems to arise on something as simple as the meat nest."

He made no mention of the two people Nick had just complained about, clearly not caring at all.

"Yes, sir." Nick quickly bowed and dared not say another word.

After the apprentices left, a woman with a large pregnant belly walked out of the back house.

The woman's face was radiant as she lowered her head, smiled, and gently stroked her belly.

She came out and saw the dead body on the grill, her eyes showing disgust.

"Ordinary people can't persist for long enough to produce enough productivity."

The high shaman feigned ignorance, asking, "What, you still intend to use your apprentices to make meat nests?"

The woman scoffed. "How could that be? What's the difference between an apprentice and an ordinary person?"

The implication was that they wanted to use wizards as a meat nest.

Although the Great Wizard was a second-tier wizard, he still hesitated to attack a full-fledged wizard. If he were discovered, he would likely become an enemy of the no-man's-land.

The high shaman waved his hand, tossed the corpse out of the room, and didn't respond to the woman's words.

Although the woman was somewhat unhappy, she didn't dare to be too presumptuous in front of a second-tier wizard.

Her belly twitched twice, causing the woman to instantly lose all color in her face from the pain.

But after the pain subsided, she smiled again and stroked her belly.

"In another year or two, He will be able to descend."

The woman stared intently at her belly, but it was not the look a mother would give her child.

The shaman also stared at the woman's belly, but unlike the woman's reverence, his fiery gaze was mixed with a hint of greed.

Another year or two...
