Chapter 516 Imprisonment

Chapter 516 Imprisonment

Even useful people can have the opportunity to be imprisoned.

Useless people can only become materials to be dismembered.

"What kind of person would be useful to you?" Thor asked calmly, looking directly at the old witch.

"Heh, not badly clever." The old witch withdrew her hand. "I want to forge the most perfect body. It must have the beauty of an elf, the resilience of a giant, the strength of a dwarf, the adaptability of a barbarian, and most importantly, the adaptability of a genius in elemental magic."

The old witch looked at Thor as if he were a piece of meat on a chopping board, carefully weighing which piece was fat and which was lean.

"I will succeed soon. When that happens, I will become the most talented wizard. Dream weavers, firefly masters, wind demons—they will all be nothing more than my foils."

Claude once told Thor that there are currently no fourth-tier wizards in the No Man's Lands. The three most powerful third-tier wizards are generally considered to be the Dream Weaver Clark, the Firefly Lord Herbert, and the Wind Fairy Pei'er.

Saul suddenly understood. "I get it. You need an assistant to help with your research experiments."

The old witch did not deny it.

Thor smiled modestly, "Coincidentally, I'm quite good at researching formulas for transforming witch bodies."

"Hoo hoo hoo hoo..." The old witch laughed so hard that her little finger kept bouncing on the back of her head.

"A mere first-tier wizard dares to claim expertise? Are all young people these days so arrogant? Do you think the modification formula I need is like a wizard apprentice's—adding an eye or changing blood?"

"No." It's always good to have evidence before you speak. Thor raised his hand, his fingertips gradually turning transparent. "I've also undergone two body modification procedures, so I naturally understand that modification isn't just about replacing some body tissue."

The old witch's eyes were fixed on Thor's fingers, watching his skin and the muscles, blood vessels, and other tissues beneath gradually turn a transparent grayish-white, revealing the white bone at the very center.

"The modification involves multiple tissues of the human body, and there are also many follow-up issues to consider, such as allergies, immunity, self-repair, and the smoothness of magical and mental energy. Sometimes what seems to be a conflict between magical materials may actually be that the smallest body tissues cannot survive in the modified environment."

Listening to Thor speak and watching the changes in his fingers, the old witch's initial disdain faded, and her eyes narrowed slightly. She pursed her lips, but the corners of her blood-red mouth slowly turned up.

"That's interesting. I'll ask you a question, and if your answer satisfies me, you won't die until I finish my modification experiment."

"Please speak."

How can we stop the aging process? How can we extend the lifespan of the body's tiny tissues?

Thor lowered his eyes, forcing himself not to look at the old witch's wrinkled face.

After a moment's thought, he offered his answer: "Surface aging is due to the shrinkage of micro-tissues, which are no longer as plump as when newborns are. Internal aging is caused by a slowdown in the rate of micro-tissue regeneration. Therefore, we can address this from two aspects: replenishing the body and accelerating the rate of micro-tissue division."

Thor deliberately left a hidden danger here.

It was just a test; he didn't need to explain it so completely. Besides, leaving the old witch with a potential problem might be a way for him to survive.

The old witch suddenly reached into the cage, grabbed Thor's arm, and slowly tightened her grip, leaving several bloody marks on Thor's slightly translucent skin with her sharp nails.

Bright red blood flowed from the wound, mixed with some inconspicuous gray particles.

The old witch withdrew her hand, put her fingertips into her mouth and licked them one after another, leaving several bright red streaks on her dark purple tongue.

"Hehehe... Hahaha..." She laughed, her shoulders shaking, the wrinkles on her face trembling.

After laughing for about a minute, the old witch suddenly turned to the person in the wooden cage next to Thor and said, "Ochiri, I've found someone to replace you. You'd better watch out!"

Thor looked over as well.

To his left, about four or five meters away, in a similar cage, a person lay with their back to them.

Because the cage was small, the person had to tuck their head and knees tightly into their chest when they lay down.

After hearing the old witch's words, the man merely shifted his position slightly without responding.

The old witch wasn't angry. She gripped the wooden bars of the cage and slowly stood up.

"Alright, I'm going to see my little one now. I'll come see you again tomorrow. In the meantime, you can think carefully about my problem. I don't need a few seemingly correct platitudes."

The old witch turned and walked towards the gate.

Thor approached the railing. "Old witch, my coachman..."

"Right now, he's more useful than you. Think about how to survive first."

The old witch pushed open the door and went out.

Saul noticed that the room outside the door was also dimly lit.

It seems that only Thor is still conscious in the room. The figures in the other cages are either huddled up sitting or lying down.

It looks like it has been locked up for a long time.

There should be a binding magic circle on the cage. When sitting here, Thor's magic power and mental energy fluctuations are forcefully suppressed to an extremely low value range.

Having no way to open the cage for the time being, Thor turned to look around the room.

The room was covered with rough stone bricks on all sides. The entire house was irregularly shaped, and the floor was a polygon.

The room's lighting fixture was a plant with oval-shaped flower buds, and it looked wilted and about to die.

Several wooden cages were fixed around the luminous plant, some near and some far.

The one where Thor was located was the furthest away, with a wall behind him.

Upon closer inspection, besides Thor, there were five other people in the cages.

Three of them had rather unusual body types.

A giant sat facing Thor's cage.

Thor's cage was a little over a meter high, while the giant's cage was nearly two meters high. Even so, when the giant sat hunched over, his scalp was still touching the cage.

He looked extremely uncomfortable.

Next to the giant was a dwarf, whose height was estimated to be less than one meter.

Then, to Thor's left, against the wall, was a person whose upper body was lying on the ground and whose legs were curled up and draped over the wall.

Thor saw the black markings on his body and judged that the other party must be a barbarian, and a spellcaster such as a barbarian priest.

To Thor's left is the man called Ochiri. To Ochiri's left is also a formal wizard, though he appears rather weak.

Perhaps sensing Thor's scrutiny, or perhaps because the old witch had already left, Ochiri, who had been curled up on the ground, slowly got up and sat down.

He looked quite old; his temples were already gray, and his skin had many large spots.

"I hope you really are skilled in body modification." Ochili lowered his head, looking at his toes. "The two people who lied about being skilled in body modification have now become inanimate, mute magical materials."

It's a good thing that someone is willing to communicate.

Thor, taking advantage of his relatively short stature, nimbly turned around in the cage. "Did the old witch capture us just to conduct her witchcraft experiments?"

"Of course not." Ochiri still didn't look at Thor, and said listlessly with his head down, "Outsiders, the No Man's Land has many magical materials that are not found in other places, but here, wizards are also a kind of material."
