Chapter 512 Curse
Chapter 512 Curse
The farmers below had no idea what was happening; they looked up and awaited the verdict.
Herman: [Master, is little Claude really not dead? But why would he show himself for all those people who keep killing him?]
Saul wasn't in a hurry, "because these people aren't alive."
Hermann still didn't understand.
But before Herman could continue asking questions, the village chief, Grand Claude, who was standing closest, sighed.
The sigh fell to the ground, and the other villagers froze instantly.
It was as if everyone except Thor and the village chief had their time frozen.
"You're the first wizard to see through the truth right from the start. But no matter how I look at it, you're only at the first rank. Could it be that you're hiding your true strength?"
The person behind the scenes has finally revealed themselves.
Thor crouched down and looked down at Claude.
In his eyes, the tall, red-haired middle-aged man was covered in scars.
His face was pockmarked, as if it had been boiled in hot water; there was a ring-shaped scar on his neck, as if it had been severed by a knife; his fingertips were badly worn, with no nails, as if he had scratched something hard.
And there must be many more horrific wounds on Claude's body, hidden by his clothes.
This wizard, Claude, looks as if he has been killed dozens or hundreds of times.
"My strength is not important," Thor said slowly. "What's important is that if you continue like this, you'll become mutated."
Claude was not surprised; he was clearly aware of his physical condition.
"Now that you've solved the village's predicament, you should leave quickly. The rules here will reset soon."
"We already know the basic formula; no matter how the situation changes, it won't deviate from its principles," Thor said with a smile. "But you, are you really willing to let yourself crumble in this chaotic cycle?"
"I never expected such a kind-hearted person to come to this no-man's-land."
"I'm not a good person," Saul denied. "I just like equal exchange."
Claude laughed, and as he twitched his lips, his mouth not only split open vertically but also horizontally.
"I roughly know what you want, but why do you think you can afford the price?"
"Just because of this."
A semi-transparent tentacle lashed out from Thor's palm and suddenly wrapped around the frozen little girl.
Claude glanced at them but didn't move. "You can't destroy them."
He thought Saul was going to use the villagers to threaten him, but Saul released the little girl the next second.
The little girl, who had previously displayed a strange smile, returned to a calm demeanor, closed her eyes, and lay on the ground as if asleep.
Claude abandoned his nonchalant demeanor and rushed to the little girl's side to check on her condition.
He then looked up in shock, "You actually managed to remove the contamination from her body, preserving her original form, without causing serious harm?"
It's like dropping a drop of ink into clear water and then removing the ink without disturbing the water's shape.
Claude has a way to remove ink from clean water, but he has no way to remove contamination from spirits.
He put the little girl down and gently smoothed her bangs.
Morton: [It seems he wasn't as indifferent to these villagers as he appeared.]
Agu: [On the contrary, he valued these villagers highly. Even though they were already a group of...the living dead.]
Ann: [Master is amazing! He saw through Claude's true intentions at a glance.]
Hermann: [Huh?]
Thor was actually somewhat surprised to see how much Claude cared for the little girl. He used Soul Fishing on the villagers, but it only absorbed a large amount of pollution from them.
Besides testing Claude's attitude, the main purpose was to make him realize that he could remove the pollution from his spirit.
Unexpectedly, Claude paid more attention to the pollution on the villagers and didn't even think that this method of removing pollution could be used on himself.
After putting the little girl down and standing up again, Claude no longer had the cold expression he had just worn.
"What's the price to learn your method of eliminating contamination?"
"You won't learn it." Thor jumped down from the roof. "But you can use the principles that govern this village's rules as a price to exchange for my help."
"So this is what you wanted?" Claude was slightly taken aback; he had clearly misjudged Thor's needs.
He looked down at the little girl, then made a decision, "Regarding the reason for the formation of the rules, I can only say... I don't know."
Thor frowned, but he could tell that Claude had something else to say, so he didn't interrupt.
"I can tell you haven't been in the No Man's Lands long, otherwise you wouldn't have asked this question. In the outside world, whether it's Stata or the other two continents, the formation of pollution always follows a pattern. Only the No Man's Lands is different. Here, pollution always comes out of nowhere. Sometimes one second you're conducting your research as usual, and the next second the potion in your hand is suddenly splashed on your face, trying to penetrate your body. Even a part of your body can suddenly become diseased."
As Claude finished speaking, several villagers suddenly stirred.
He took out a milky white seashell wind chime from his pocket, picked it up, and gently shook it twice.
The other villagers, who had already shown signs of waking up, were once again fixed in place.
"This village suddenly acquired the rule of 'kill anyone who dares to kill.' This phenomenon is not uncommon in no man's land, but no one knows why, at least not yet."
"However, although I don't know the reason, I can tell you everything that happened here, and maybe one day you can figure it out for yourself."
"Tell me," Thor said, not giving a promise immediately.
"This is the village where I was born." Claude lowered his eyes. "It used to be a slightly larger village than this. One day, I was fetching water from the river when a wizard suddenly appeared before me and said that I was qualified to become his apprentice."
"He could control the little fish in the river to jump ashore on their own, and he could also make the birds in the sky carry my buckets. I thought it was amazing, so I agreed. But when I took him back to see my brother, my brother absolutely refused. He even took out all the money in the house, hoping that the wizard would let me go."
"I was only ten years old at the time and didn't understand what my brother meant. I thought he was worried that if I left, there would be one less person to do the work, and he was very unhappy about it. So when the wizard asked me a second time in front of my brother if I wanted to become his apprentice, I still said yes. And then..."
"Then, that wizard killed my brother."
Sol rested his chin on his hand. "It was somewhat expected."
"I didn't react at all at the time, and only after I was taken away did I remember and burst into tears. The wizard wanted to teach me runes, but because I was sad and scared, I couldn't learn them no matter what I did. He asked me if I thought he was a bad person. Although I didn't dare to admit it, I really thought so in my heart. Then he took me back to the village."
"But he didn't come here to send me back; he came here to let me know that there are no good people in this village either."
Upon hearing this, Thor looked at the villagers on the ground with their strange expressions and suddenly guessed something.
Claude continued, "He told me that killing was actually a very common thing. I didn't believe him, so he took me into the air. Then I watched as the normally kind farmer would hide a corpse in a haystack and bring it home every day. The usually honest farmer's wife would also take other men into the room when the farmer was not around. Some of these men left, and some went into the stove. My favorite little sister was stuffed into a tree hole by her mother, and her mother still called her home for dinner every day as usual..."
"Seeing all this, my fear turned into numbness, and I obediently followed the wizard back to learn. It wasn't until I became a third-level apprentice that I suddenly understood. The reason why the village where I was born suddenly became so strange was actually because that wizard had cast a curse."
