Chapter 501 Trading

Chapter 501 Trading

"What are you doing here? You want to fight me?" Thor had no time to sympathize with anyone.

He was somewhat wary of the roots that made up Char, but Char made no attempt to hide the purpose of his trip.

"My orders were merely to feign pursuit, and after engaging you in battle, to seize a portion of your spirit."

"Interested in my spirit?" Thor seemed to recall something, but his expression remained impassive as he casually asked, "Why did you directly reveal what you were originally planning to do in secret?"

The roots behind him suddenly spread out a bit, and one of them came closer. Its end suddenly swelled up and vaguely turned into a human shape, with a head and facial features visible. The two forked roots also turned into the shape of arms.

It looks more like the original appearance of the wizard Char Aznable.

"I had prepared many escape methods before. But I also thought about what would happen if I were resurrected one day and became a ghost enslaved by someone else."

"You bastard..." Thor hadn't expected that Char would have prepared so many escape routes for him.

"If I had died directly, none of this would have mattered. However, the current situation proves that my preparations were very thorough. I have my own methods to maintain the independence of my soul consciousness, so that I will not be easily driven by others, and even if I am misled, I can find a way to recover."

Char raised two arms made of roots. "But I'm currently trapped in the roots of this plant. If I hadn't come out to pursue you, you probably wouldn't have been able to escape this confinement."

Char lowered his hand and looked at Thor, a hint of eagerness faintly visible in his wooden eyes.

"I noticed those servants around you a long time ago. Their static electric fields are all wrong. They're probably souls that have entered the bodies of the dead, aren't they? I want your kind of spirit entering other corpses."

Thor was somewhat surprised by Char's keen insight. Given his cautious nature and endless resourcefulness, if the Upside-Down Tree hadn't been so powerful, Char probably wouldn't have ended up in his current predicament.

What will you offer in exchange?

"I'll let you leave unharmed."

Saul pursed his lips. "You don't think I can't leave without your concessions, do you?"

Char paused, looking at Thor's nonchalant demeanor, somewhat unsure of what to do.

Although he and Thor had worked together on several Cleaners missions, Thor always seemed to be reserved and calm, as if he had never been forced to reveal his true strength.

Although Xia Ya felt deep down that with the strength of a first-tier wizard, it was impossible for him to escape unscathed from the numerous roots, if the two of them really fought, the subsequent exchange would probably not be able to proceed peacefully.

"I don't have much to offer you in my current state, but would you like to know the secrets of Baidong Academy?"

Thor was genuinely curious about the secrets of Bydon Academy. Just as he was hesitating whether to ask Xia about it, the diary suddenly turned to the page with Ann.

【Owner……】

Knowing he had done something wrong, An's handwriting looked very careful.

I know some things about the Upside-Down Tree Andasonia, and I probably know more than the wizard Char.

"Ann actually knew? It seems she did gain something from that big tree after all." Thor thought to himself, then changed his words when he spoke again.

"You mean Andasonia? I know a little about it."

Char was completely stunned.

It's not surprising that Thor knew the name of the Upside-Down Tree; some people who knew the surface information called it that.

But Andasonia is the true name of the Upside-Down Tree in the realm of witchcraft, and it also represents the essence of this magical creature, which is generally unknown to ordinary people.

He only learned this after being locked deep inside the tree, so how did Thor know it? Did his mentor teach him about this?

Xia didn't dwell on it for too long, nor did he have much time. If the tree's owner discovered the anomaly, he would likely be sucked back and another spirit would be sent to carry out his mission.

Then he would get nothing.

Thinking of this, Xia Ya's tone softened, and his posture was no longer as upright as before.

"I have a backup residence by the sea, which is very secluded. It's where I store the evil spirits I've exchanged and captured over the years. I know you specialize in dark magic and collect evil spirits. If you teach me how spirits can freely move around inside corpses, I'll tell you where I store those evil spirits."

After saying that, even though Xia had no heart, he felt angina. That was something he had stored up for many years!

He shouldn't have stored all the evil spirits in one hole back then!

That's great, they gave it all away as soon as they gave it.

Thor's eyes lit up when he heard this. Is this Char a hamster? He has way too many of them.

Looking at the other person's slightly furrowed features, he knew that there must be quite a few evil spirits.

Thor needs a large number of spirits, whether he wants to create soul armor or rebuild his own wizard tower.

"Then we have an agreement." Thor wasn't greedy; upon hearing the satisfactory exchange, he reached an agreement with Char.

Xia Ya also breathed a sigh of relief. In his current state, there weren't many people willing to make a deal with him.

Fortunately, the agreement between him and Thor in the fairy contract had not expired or become invalid, otherwise the two of them would have had to rack their brains to figure out how to ensure the transaction was completed and that neither of them would deceive the other.

After making the vow, Thor generously dictated the formula for the potion that slowed down soul rejection to Char.

Char also memorized it by rote, and he dared not record it on any medium, lest the owner of the upside-down tree notice.

After painfully memorizing it several times, and making sure he wouldn't forget it anytime soon, Char looked up at Thor and said, "Let's have a fight now."

Thor smiled slightly, and the black blade that had been gathering above his head slashed down without hesitation, instantly severing one of Char's arms and a few roots beside him.

Although the two reached an agreement, during the crossover of the lower position, they had to pretend to chase Thor with all their might, only to be forced to retreat due to being no match for him.

Who would have thought that Thor would be so utterly unsportsmanlike? One second he was smiling, the next he was flipping the table. Even if it was just a pretense, wasn't that a bit too much?

But since things had come to this, Char couldn't say anything. He just grimly commanded the numerous roots behind him to attack Thor and his carriage from three sides.

"If I can't steal your spirit, I must at least make sure you leave something behind. Otherwise, how can I prove that I'm relentlessly pursuing you?"

With that in mind, Char commanded the Roots to attack even more fiercely.

"It seems that when Ann and I were attacked, those roots ignored me and only attacked Ann because someone was directing them from behind."

Since rescuing An, he hasn't had time to ask her why she secretly went underground and what happened in the upside-down tree.

It seems that An has recovered quite well now, and we can interrogate her properly in a while.

Thor fought his way back and quickly returned to the vicinity of the carriage.

His carriage had already activated its defensive array, but it couldn't hold out for long under the attack of numerous roots.

The coachman, Marsh, who was sitting outside, huddled on the frame of the carriage, his head covered, while the mushrooms on his head trembled.

Strangely, the roots didn't attack him; they seemed to genuinely regard him as a mushroom.

Thor wielded the Dark Spirit Blade, severing the roots approaching the carriage with a few swift strokes. Agu, inside, also cooperated by casting spells similar to "Slippery Spell," which, while not particularly powerful, allowed him to skillfully evade attacks.

The little algae was fighting with the roots from the very beginning, and now it's all tangled up, looking like a ball of weeds, not very imposing.

After most of the roots had been severed, Char still hadn't managed to harm Thor's side. He was somewhat annoyed and finally understood why Thor wasn't afraid of his threats.

With his Dark Spirit Blade, Thor is practically the bane of plant-based creatures.

In the end, Char could only watch Thor leave, and he was furious.

It's as if they never made any deal at all!
