Chapter 487 The Upside-Down City
Chapter 487 The Upside-Down City
Thor finally understood where he was imprisoned.
He once thought that there was a person hiding in the sheets he was holding on the floor when he pulled off the sheets and found nothing on the bed.
But he never expected that he himself was hiding there.
So, what's next...?
Through the white sheets, Thor could see a black shadow coiling around him, about to tighten.
"Penny!" Thor called again.
"Sol...brother..."
Penny's voice still seemed as distant as the horizon, but the moment Thor heard it, it vanished as the black, menacing tentacles tore through the sheets.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw that he was still lying in bed. Beneath him were smooth sheets and a mattress that was just the right firmness.
He immediately jumped off the bed, but the bed remained completely still.
Thor could still recall the feeling of his heart racing just moments before.
"Was I dreaming?" He clutched his chest. "At first, I remembered that I was a wizard, but when I was moved under the sheets, I seemed to forget that. Whether I was struggling underwater, having my face covered by the sheets, or curled up inside them, I didn't think of using witchcraft to solve the problem."
"Besides calling for Penny, I had completely forgotten all other means of self-defense."
Thor's expression darkened slightly.
He didn't know what his dream meant, or whether someone had tampered with it.
Then he suddenly felt that the surroundings were too quiet.
He looked up and saw that the room was empty, with only him inside. He also felt vaguely uneasy, but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.
"No, this is still a dream!" Thor immediately activated his mental energy, trying to wake himself up.
However, he immediately discovered that while his mental and magical powers could operate freely, he was unable to wake up from the dream.
Thor tried several more times, but remained in the same spot.
"This dream seems more complicated than it appears. Was I attacked by someone else?"
The diary in my mind is still there.
Thor breathed a sigh of relief.
Even if his dreams were manipulated by someone else, that person could never forge a diary.
Saul unfolded the diary in front of him and turned to the page containing the only entry still in Herman's diary.
【Master? What happened?】
Through the diary, Herman saw the outside world, but he immediately realized something was wrong.
[Master! Master! You, you...]
"Did you notice something amiss?" Thor knew that Herman had probably seen something in the diary, and immediately pressed for an answer.
【Master, why are you standing upside down?】
"Hiss..." Thor gasped, goosebumps instantly rising all over his body.
In the instant Herman reminded him, Saul finally understood why he felt uncomfortable.
Because he was standing upside down!
wrong!
Thor looked around.
Not only him, but his house is upside down too.
Because he saw that there was nothing wrong with the scenery around him, he was slow to realize that he was upside down.
Thor took two steps and immediately felt that the gravity was wrong. The friction of his clothes was also problematic.
It seemed as if something was helping him maintain his upside-down position.
"Penny!" Thor continued to call out to Penny, suspecting that the reason Penny's voice sounded so distant before was because she hadn't entered this strange dream.
"Brother Thor." Penny's voice was still distant, but at least it wasn't as indistinct as before.
He seems to have just broken through a barrier.
Thor saw no one else in the room and wondered why his room was upside down.
He slowly walked to the window and looked outside.
Below the building, it was pitch black.
When Thor looked down, something seemed to be growing and moving silently in the darkness.
Thor leaned his upper body out of the window, holding onto the window frame with one hand, and carefully looked up.
Above his head, where the sky should have been, had become a vast expanse of earth burning with pale flames.
Gravity seemed to be normal on the ground. Flames rose upwards. The land was cracked and barren, with only pale flames burning fiercely, fueled by an unknown fuel.
At the boundary between the white flames and the earth, one can occasionally see some charred remnants.
That must be the remains after it was completely burned. It's impossible to tell what the remains originally looked like.
"Sure enough, my feeling was right. I am upside down, or rather, hanging upside down."
Realizing this, Thor used his flight spell to lift himself into the air, then, holding onto the window, flew out of the high-rise building.
When he left his original room, he saw the world more clearly.
The entire city was upside down, and beneath the buildings in sight, Thor could vaguely see some plant branches and vines clinging to the base of the buildings.
The original streets have all disappeared, and all the buildings have been erected—no, they should be said to be tied to branches and suspended upside down in the air.
Thor squinted at the soles of his feet and, sure enough, saw some tiny, curled new shoots on the surface of his shoes.
Compared to the huge, rough branches on the building, the branches at Thor's feet looked fresh and lovely, pale with a hint of newborn green.
Thor freed one hand, and a Lesser Flame Orb appeared in his palm, then shot towards Thor's feet in the blink of an eye.
When the flame brushed against the sole of the shoe, the newly sprouted buds instantly became dry and twisted, and gradually charred and crumbled.
When the branches entangled at his feet were charred, the eerie upward pull vanished instantly, and gravity once again became the dominant force.
The sudden return of gravity caused Thor, who was using his flight spell, to plummet towards the ground in an instant. If he hadn't been holding onto the window with one hand, Thor would probably have experienced a free fall.
Just then, Thor felt something hit his body, and then everything went blurry before his eyes. The upside-down city, the burning earth above his head, and the huge plants all disappeared.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw several faces.
A butterfly, entirely silver and seemingly made of metal, struggled to emerge from between several faces.
"Thank goodness, Thor, you're finally awake!"
Just as Penny was about to land a shot on Thor's face, someone else beat her to it.
"Master, waaaah, are you alright?" Ann, with a deathly pale face, threw herself into Thor's chest.
Outside of the diary, the consciousnesses always moved using the corpse of the wizard tower as a vessel. Because the vessel was inanimate, they could not control their bodies as freely as ordinary people.
In particular, they rarely show various facial expressions.
But this time, An's eyes were brimming with tears. Ignoring her abnormal skin color, she looked exactly like an ordinary young girl.
Saul helped Anne sit up by her shoulder, only to find himself still lying in bed.
He scanned the surroundings with his mental energy and found that the objects around him were clear and the fluctuations emitted by the several consciousnesses were stable.
I'm finally out of this dream.
With the Nightmare Butterfly around, how could anyone still manage to harm his dreams?
If someone tampered with this dream, then the person behind it is probably not simple.
Thor stood up with a serious expression and carefully examined his body, finding no injuries.
He looked up at the three people in the room. "What do you think just happened?"
It was Agu who was speaking.
Although he wasn't the strongest in life, his extensive knowledge and the most stable soul made him the de facto leader among the four.
"Master, just after you fell asleep, the magical energy fluctuations around you suddenly diminished, becoming almost imperceptible. The Nightmare Butterfly immediately realized that you might have been attacked in your dream. However, when it tried to enter your dream, it was unable to do so."
A silver butterfly landed on Thor's hair, adding to Agu's words, "To be precise, I didn't find you in your dreams. But thanks to the great diary, there's still a vague connection between us, which is why I can hear your voice and call your name again and again. After that, I've been trying to pull you out of my dreams, and I finally succeeded just now!"
But upon hearing this, Thor shook his head. "But based on my experience just now, I should have been kicked out of the dream."
