Chapter 477 The Dean's Summoning
Chapter 477 The Dean's Summoning
Thor stroked his chin. "Are you sure the evil spirit is gone? I was working on it when you suddenly woke up."
"Uh!" Xia paused, his face immediately scrunching up. "You didn't deliberately hold back a trick..."
Char was instinctively on guard, but halfway through his sentence, he seemed to remember something and stopped talking. He then obediently took out the meditation technique for drawing pictures from his bag.
Thor took the evolution diagram and put it into his storage device.
Actually, there were many other ways for him to obtain the evolution diagram from Xia. When he left the Wizard Tower, he specifically brought some lightning-attribute magical materials with him.
The materials in the Wizard's Tower are all very valuable; they're more than enough to exchange for a meditation technique that Char doesn't need.
But Thor still wanted to see what kind of evil spirit was on Char.
"Alright, I've given you the things, now you should leave." Xia Ya started to shoo him away.
Thor didn't mind that the guy used it and then threw it away.
Even though Saul cured his nightmares, he couldn't cure his paranoia.
Thor wanted to hurry back, but as he was about to turn and leave, Char, whom he caught a glimpse of, suddenly turned black.
But when Thor turned around abruptly, full of vigilance, Char behind him had returned to his original form.
And judging from his appearance, he didn't seem to know what had just happened to him.
"What's wrong? You're not going to raise the price again, are you?" Xia Ya saw Thor's serious expression and immediately took a half step back.
Thor squinted and saw a thin line curving upwards above Char's head.
The end of the thin thread disappeared into the air.
Thor walked out, deep in thought.
Char is the third person he has seen who has changed into something else in his eyes.
There's a wizard apprentice whose head can turn into a watchdog bird, an ordinary salesperson whose head can turn into a charred corpse, and Char who can turn into a shadow.
What exactly happened to these people?
Or did something happen to my eyes?
As he walked down the street, Saul pressed his eyelids.
Just then, he saw two third-level apprentices walking towards him.
"Master Thor, Dean Pound requests your presence at the clock tower."
Bydon College's clock tower is a slender, tall tower located in a relatively central position within the college.
Unlike the hourglass lamps that are ubiquitous inside the Wizard's Tower, the Academy relies on more mechanical clocks for timekeeping. Even the archaeological city of Stir outside does the same.
Saul followed the two apprentices into the clock tower, only to discover that there was more to it than met the eye.
The top floor of the clock tower actually hides a huge space.
He remembered that Bydon College sold a type of mobile house that looked small on the surface but actually had a spacious interior.
It seems that this kind of witchcraft is also being used here.
The top floor of the clock tower, which looks like only a few square meters from the outside, actually has a space of over a hundred square meters.
The space was unobstructed by walls or decorations, and as soon as Thor entered, he saw Dean Pound sitting behind a long table. Opposite him, on a sofa, sat a woman.
The woman had shoulder-length black hair and was thin. She wasn't particularly beautiful, but her eyes were exceptionally bright.
As Saul approached, the woman suddenly looked up at him, her gaze intense, even more so than that of Dean Pound.
However, judging from the mental energy fluctuations emanating from the other party, he should only be a first-tier wizard.
Dean Pound greeted Saul with a smile, and seeing that he was staring at the woman, he introduced the two of them first.
"This is Beth, a first-tier wizard like you, but she's about to advance, so she doesn't spend much time at the academy." Pound looked at Beth with a face full of satisfaction. "Once she successfully advances, she can succeed me as the next headmaster."
Beth stood up, nodded slightly to Saul, and appeared to be a man of few words.
The black wizard's robes, the most common and ordinary among wizards, looked empty and flimsy on her.
Even though it was summer, Beth had her collar buttoned up to the top button.
Only the face and a pair of pale but equally thin hands were visible.
Thor also noticed that when Dean Pound introduced Beth, he didn't mention what type of witchcraft she specialized in.
After introducing themselves, the three sat down, and Dean Pound then revealed the true purpose of inviting Saul over.
"The root monster you and Julie encountered before has recently reappeared. This time, the level three wizard apprentice who encountered it did not return alive." Dean Pound's smile vanished.
"When Julie reported this to me, I had already sent people into the underground sewers to investigate, but apart from finding that the soil there had become loose, there was nothing else unusual, and the root monster was gone."
"This time, after the root monster reappeared, another official wizard present brought back a section of root."
Dean Pound raised his hand, and a transparent, sealed test tube appeared above his palm.
There is a white root about the length of a finger in the test tube.
The white root quietly floated up and down in the test tube, looking just like an ordinary white radish tendril, without showing any strange features.
Those were indeed the roots that Thor had encountered before, but he had been very careful to avoid having a part of his body taken away, and had not brought back a sample of the roots.
"Beth's research revealed that this root will chase after creatures that emit magical radiation. But at the same time, it also shows a certain reaction to spirits."
"However, after several experiments, the activity of these roots has been rapidly declining. Now they're practically lifeless. Thor, when you last encountered one of these root monsters, did you bring back any of its tissue?"
Thor shook his head. "These roots become very difficult to deal with once they multiply. Julie and I encountered this monster for the first time, and for safety reasons, our first reaction was to leave the scene."
"Alright." Dean Pound's expression was unreadable. "Here's what we'll do: if you encounter this root monster again in the future and are able to bring back samples of its tissue, the academy is willing to use magic crystals or sorcery materials to recover it."
Thor's heart skipped a beat.
It seems that Bydon Academy really cares about this root. They may have discovered something on it, but just didn't tell Thor.
If that's the case, Thor plans to keep some for his own research next time he encounters them, and hand over the rest to the academy.
But on the surface, he simply nodded readily and said, "Okay."
Dean Pound then asked Thor about his battle with the Root Monster, thanked him for his cooperation, and sent him back.
During this conversation, the witch named Beth did not say a word.
He just sat there with his head down, seemingly uninterested in any monsters or battles.
Before leaving, Thor glanced at the woman one last time, feeling that she wasn't as simple as she seemed.
After Saul left, Pound stood by the window to make sure Saul was far away before approaching Beth.
How are you feeling?
Beth slowly raised her head, as if in slow motion.
Her voice was also slow, with a languid quality, as if she were still sound asleep.
"He was very alert and didn't notice."
"If I want to keep him in Baidon..."
"Impossible."
