Chapter 437 Elf Skin and Black Iron Coffin

Chapter 437 Elf Skin and Black Iron Coffin (Part 1)

"Sol?" a familiar voice called out to him.

Thor turned around and realized it was his mentor, Katz.

Katz's neck wound had completely healed, but he still looked pale and tired, and his mental state was particularly poor.

"Mentor Kaz."

Kaz looked at Thor, sizing him up and down, just like when he first met him.

"Sigh, who would have thought you'd be the first apprentice to become a full-fledged wizard?" Kaz shook his head again. "Perhaps I'm not suited to be a mentor either."

"Mentor Kaz?" Thor stepped forward, wanting to help him up. He had always known that Mentor Kaz looked old, but seeing him again today, he suddenly felt that his heart was also very tired.

"I'm fine." Kaz saw that Thor was worried about him, waved his hand, and looked at the wizard tower that had become ruins. "I once thought that even if some of the ways of the Lord of Gorza Tower were indeed difficult, as long as we endured it for a while and completed the resurrection experiment, we would eventually be able to live well. But I still underestimated their greed and repression. The kindling eventually turned into an uncontrollable fire, and ironically, in the end, they only burned themselves to ashes."

Kaz glanced at Thor again, hesitated for a moment, and finally whispered a warning: "The Tower Master still wants to resurrect Yora. He hasn't really given up, so you have to be careful. He might be grateful for your help now, but if one day he still fails to achieve his goal, he might still target you again."

"I... understand, thank you, Instructor Katz."

Sol understood Katz's concerns.

Thor once thought that Gorza would achieve his goal once the resurrection experiment was completed, but now it seems that his desire to resurrect Yura was not for the sake of resurrecting his beloved wife.

Because if the Tower Master truly loved Yura, he wouldn't remain indifferent to her suffering.

Thor could understand that the real Yora had long since been unable to bear the pain required for resurrection if he thought back to the "Kill me" he had heard on the puppet three years ago.

At this point, Gorza's usual gentle treatment became a suffocating cage.

As the two were talking, apprentices began to arrive from the distant forest.

There were not many people, less than ten.

Saul saw several familiar faces among them, including his former male servant George, and Chrome, who liked to dance with corpses—he was even holding a complete female corpse in his arms.

These apprentices are often not particularly strong apprentices, or they are lone wolves like Chrome.

They, who originally had little presence in the Wizard Tower, became the group with the most survivors.

Of course, some level two and three apprentices have gone out and not returned.

These people seemed to have taken Kaz as their leader, and they surrounded him in a panic. Only George cautiously greeted Thor.

Since becoming a wizarding apprentice, he finally understood the gap between himself and Thor. He also realized that being a wizard was not a safe identity; sometimes, terror only increases with power.

This led him to later become hesitant to get too close to Thor.

The aura emanating from the other person made him tremble with fear.

"Ah! It's Lord Thor!" A fleshy lump the size of a thumb grew on George's left neck, and a boy's innocent voice came from inside it.

"Shh!" George quickly covered the tumor.

Thor nodded to him. "Is that your brother?"

George bowed and said, "Yes, he said he wanted a head too, so I wanted to get a human face tumor implanted."

"Nonsense!" Katz snapped from the side. "The human-faced tumor is extremely prone to mutation, and could even contaminate you. Who taught you to do this?"

George was dumbfounded and named a third-level apprentice, only to find that the person had already died in the wizard tower.

"Really!" Kaz sighed. "I used to be so focused on the resurrection experiments, but now that I don't have to do them anymore, I can finally teach you bunch of idiots a lesson."

For some reason, after saying those words, the aura of decline and decay emanating from Kars suddenly diminished considerably.

Watching Kaz scold each of his incompetent apprentices, Thor couldn't help but shake his head and sigh with a laugh.

As the sun set, Kaz and the others lit a campfire beside the ruins.

Using this little bit of light, Kaz and the other apprentices who gradually returned began to clear the ruins of the wizard tower.

Saul was inside too; he was looking for the first storeroom. Because besides the materials he'd left there, Hayden was still lying in his sarcophagus!

Fortunately, although the Wizard Tower collapsed, it was mainly the upper part that was broken into pieces, with the lower ten floors broken horizontally and lying on the ground.

The floors below the fourth floor are even relatively well preserved.

However, even so, most of the stewards and servants did not survive.

The collapse of the wizard's tower triggered a chain reaction involving some magical materials. Even the most ordinary of these materials were dangerous to non-wizards, so many people were found unrecognizable and dead when they were unearthed.

In order to salvage as many of Gorsa's unwanted assets as possible, Kaz led the remaining apprentices and servants to clean up the ruins, and in the end they actually managed to salvage quite a few good things.

However, Saul noticed that the rather elusive head steward who oversaw all the stewards was not there.

There were neither corpses nor survivors.

"Could it be that he was also taken away by Gorsa?" Thor wondered to himself.

The next morning, Katz found Thor again.

"We've basically cleared the rubble," Kaz said with a wry smile. "But then I discovered that almost everything in the rooms above the 19th floor is gone. Gorza probably took it all. Heh, I was hoping to see the Tower Master's collection of books; looks like I won't have the luck. How's it going on your end?"

The first floor of the East Tower was assumed to belong to Thor, and no one dared to steal from it; even Kars deliberately avoided getting close.

"After the Wizard Tower collapsed, the bronze gate also lost its function. Some of the materials in the first warehouse were still uncontaminated. I've picked out a little bit and left the rest for you."

Kaz didn't refuse. The irresponsible tower master just packed up and ran away. If he wanted to take care of the surviving apprentices, he would need enough supplies.

"Second warehouse..."

"Take everything you can from the second warehouse. The materials there are quite dangerous; even third-level apprentices shouldn't use them casually."

Thor was tempted, but he simply didn't have a backpack big enough. Even his compressed bag only had a few cubic meters of space, not enough to fit a warehouse.

"The corpses in the second warehouse were all rotting. There were also many materials that were preserved by being separated and stored in interlayers. When I went there, some of the materials had been damaged in the fighting, and some were lost," Saul described with a smile.

"I took some with me, but I'll leave the rest to you, my mentor."

"That's fine then. It's dangerous for you to carry all of this." Kaz accepted it again, then asked after a moment, "Thor, are you... leaving?"

"Yes." Thor did not deny it.

"Did you take all the vengeful spirits from the hidden compartment?"

Thor was taken aback, not expecting that his mentor, Kaz, had discovered it. He immediately admitted, "Yes, it seems that Mentor Gorsa had planned from the beginning that he would leave after the experiment succeeded, so he said he would leave the wizard tower to me... but now the existing wizard tower has collapsed. However, Gorsa still gave me something very important. Those fragments of vengeful spirits are in there too."

Kaz opened his mouth, seemingly interested, but after thinking for a moment, he didn't ask.

"Good, young man, it's time to go out and explore. After we've settled things here, I plan to take the apprentices who are willing to come with me to the Principality of Kema."

Thor was taken aback; he hadn't expected Kaz to leave as well.

"Aren't you planning to rebuild the Wizard's Tower here?"

Kaz waved his hand with a smile, "How could I be qualified to build a wizard's tower? Besides, this place was given to the tower lord of Gorsa by the Duchy of Kema, I can't control it."

"There are some small wizarding organizations within the Principality of Kema. I plan to find a suitable place to live and settle down there. By the way, let's call the organization 'The Garden of the Dead.' If you ever visit the Principality of Kema, you can check it out."

According to Kaz's mentor, he seemed to have already established and popularized the Necromancer's Garden organization.

Suddenly, a silver butterfly caught Thor's eye, followed by Penny's lively, childlike voice.

"Brother Thor, Claire is awake."

Thor was taken aback at first, then smiled happily and said goodbye to Kaz.

"Instructor Kaz, Klee is awake. I'll go check on her."

"Go, go!" Kaz waved his hand hastily.

Thor followed the Nightmare Butterfly from the small garden directly into a large pit. Before he hit the bottom, a black tentacle as thick as a thigh caught him from below.

Thor jogged over and saw that Byron was also there.

The two nodded, and Thor rushed to Claire, who was wearing a metal shell.

"Claire, you're awake?"

Because of the metal armor blocking her view, Claire's voice was muffled.

"Quickly, make some holes for me, I'm about to suffocate!"

It's the last day of the month, so asking for 300 monthly votes isn't too much to ask, right?
