Chapter 38 Discovering Blind Spots

Chapter 38 Discovering Blind Spots

With his head covered in slime, Thor continued his ascent, clutching the box in his arms.

Perhaps breaking some illusion, he found himself successfully reaching the sixth floor of the East Tower, with the rune wall on his left that had once made them, the newcomers, dizzy.

Even with Thor's current mental strength, he dared not look any longer.

For some reason, the blurry world became clear again, and he then noticed a stinging pain on his forehead.

It's probably because I bowed too hard while facing the wall that my forehead got a little scratched.

"To inflict 100 damage on the enemy while suffering only 0.1 damage on oneself is worth it."

Then he thought of something serious: "I need to go back and take a shower right away, I don't know if I'll get infected."

However, he had to give the things in his hands to Senior Kongsha first; Thor didn't want to sleep with a dead man's head in his arms.

Go back through the passage to the West Tower and continue up the ramp.

Floors six through nine are the activity areas for first-level apprentices.

Just after eight o'clock, although the East Tower was as quiet as a tomb, the West Tower was still quite lively.

Some people saw Saul walking slowly uphill and began to whisper among themselves.

Some people noticed the yellow leather bag Thor was holding and looked at it curiously, but dared not approach because of Thor's reputation.

Thor ignored the stares of those around him and walked steadily, step by step.

After leaving the area for first-level apprentices, the tenth floor, where second-level apprentices resided, returned to its quiet state.

No one was loitering, chatting, or sharing their learning experiences in the hallway.

The dormitory doors here seem to be closed day and night.

Thor tilted his head slightly.

He still remembered the scene he witnessed when he came to clean the corridor as a servant.

The weeping behind the door, the messy trash, and that pool of blood...

It was truly a pool of blood that changed his fate.

However, before Thor could sigh any further, a soft sound suddenly came from ahead.

Thor immediately snapped out of his daze and looked up at the slope.

At the bend leading to the twelfth floor, in the shadows, a pair of black leather boots peeked out.

I don't know how long I've been standing here.

Thor didn't stop, but instead became more cautious and slowly stepped forward, his gaze gradually moving upward from his boots.

The man standing at the corner slowly revealed his true face.

It was in West Germany, more than a month away from the tower.

He stared silently at Thor, his eyes filled with gloom.

But as Thor approached, a dramatic, icy smile suddenly appeared on his lips. "Don't you know how to greet your senior?"

"Hello, senior." Thor greeted him respectfully, even bowing slightly.

"..."

West Germany hadn't expected Saul to be so obedient, unlike the child who had nearly killed someone a month ago because he had scared him so much.

After greeting him, Thor remained calm and continued his ascent.

He wore a polite smile, but was on high alert.

The two drew closer, side by side, about to miss each other...

"Do you really think your mentor cares about the life or death of a newbie? As long as someone more valuable comes along, you're just trash that can be discarded at any time."

Saul tilted his head; he only reached West Germany's chest. To see him from this angle, he needed to raise his chin high.

Thor gave a docile smile, though he didn't know what kind of bizarre image that smile would become with the slime on his head, but he still maintained a respectful tone.

"Thank you for your guidance, senior. I will strive to continuously improve my value."

West Germany sneered, dismissing Saul's utterly ignorant remarks.

"If talent could be compensated for by hard work, there wouldn't be so many desperate bones underfoot."

Saul did not refute; he simply stared silently at West Germany.

"Will he make a direct attack on me? It's not too late, but we're all alone now, so it's a good opportunity."

However, the hardcover book was never published.

"West Germany wouldn't dare to make a move," Saul said, growing increasingly calm.

The other person ignored Thor and walked down the street with his hands in his pockets, swaying as he went.

He seems to be in a good mood.

Thor waited until West Germany disappeared from sight before turning around and continuing on his way.

"He wouldn't dare, or rather, couldn't, lay a hand on me." Saul pondered as he walked. "I should have known. He failed to kill me in the library, and then sent Brown to harm me afterwards. Sid has always wanted me dead!"

"But he never directly killed me." Thor's eyes grew brighter. "It couldn't be because of my mentor. When I was still his servant, he could have killed me with almost no consequence, yet he still didn't!"

"Couldn't West Germany kill people?"

This idea was immediately rejected by Thor.

West Germany killed the chubby boy who had bribed his way through the process in front of all the new recruits.

"Could it be that he...can't kill me?"

The more Thor thought about it, the more likely it seemed.

He glanced at the hardcover book out of the corner of his eye. "West Germany is looking for a diary, and that diary is the same as the hardcover book on my shoulder. He might not want to kill me to silence me. He might want to kill me to find this hardcover book!"

Although this conjecture is incredible, far-fetched, and unfounded, it could explain West Germany's strange behavior over the years.

He wanted Saul dead, but refused to do it himself.

Thor stopped in his tracks, staring blankly at the small package in his hand, his mind already wandering far away.

Tonight is actually a golden opportunity for West Germany.

Thor held in his hands a bizarre head that was forbidden to be taken outside, with an unknown slime hanging on the head.

If West Germany had killed him, they could have easily attributed Saul's death to the strange events that had befallen him.

But West Germany didn't make a move; he just made a few sarcastic remarks that were neither here nor there.

"Kill the owner of the hardcover book, and you will not get the hardcover book!"

The phrase suddenly popped into Thor's mind.

"If I'm not mistaken, Sid knows a lot about this hardcover book. But wait... if that's the case, why would he throw it at my head?" Saul was a little worried. The hardcover book was too mysterious and didn't introduce itself, so Saul had to figure many things out on his own.

"Never mind, whether West Germany knows about the Hardcover Book's ability to foresee death or not, we're already locked in a life-or-death struggle. Right now, I'm not strong enough, so I can only deal with whatever comes my way and hope for some powerful backer's protection."

Thor started walking uphill again.

"West Germany will definitely make another move." After taking only a few steps, Saul suddenly stopped again. "Something's not right. West Germany's attitude today is strange."

West Germany was initially gloomy when he met Sol today, but his mood later improved.

He has already taken new actions.

Saul recalled what West had just said.

"Do you really think your mentor cares about the life or death of a newbie? As long as someone more valuable comes along, you're just trash that can be discarded at any time."

Mentors, newcomers, and more valuable people...

Saul narrowed his eyes. "Sid's trip was to find a replacement... He found someone who can fill in for me at the morgue?"

If it weren't for Kaz's protection, Thor wouldn't have had a month to catch his breath.

However, the premise for Thor's protection is likely that he is working for his mentor, Katz.

Mentor Kaz didn't want his newly recruited workers to die so quickly.

But what if someone even more suited to working in a morgue appeared?

Kaz's mentor might not insist on leaving the job to Saul.

Thor didn't think Katz had much of a teacher-student relationship with him.

Especially after he became more and more skilled at handling corpses, his tutor stopped coming to the morgue to guide him in his studies.

It's unrealistic to expect his mentor to protect him out of old feelings.

Thor glanced down at the package in his hand and decided to quicken his pace to find the backer he had just acquired.

I've done all the work for you, I can't just stand by and watch you die, can I?

Do you even have a brain?

……

Kongsa was not happy that Saul came straight over and knocked on her door.

She pulled Saul inside, watching the boy stagger and fall to the ground, his eyeballs inside the glass dome pressed tightly against the edge, swollen and bloodshot, as if they were about to explode at any moment.

"Why did you just come up here?"
