Chapter 33: Has the hardcover book been upgraded?
Chapter 33: Has the hardcover book been upgraded?
Thor once again observed the chunk of flesh on the teleportation platform from a semi-immersive perspective, this time without the hazy holy light covering it.
Suddenly, Thor sensed something.
He suddenly turned his head to look at the teleportation portal, where a pair of eyes were staring at him in terror from behind the black tassels.
Thor carried the cleaver, covered in bits of meat and dripping with blood, toward the teleportation portal.
He yanked open the black leather tassels and saw a person crawling backwards inside.
The light from the room slanted into the teleportation portal, cutting a line of light and shadow across the person's face.
Thor squinted and guessed the man's identity.
"Senior, it's a pleasure to meet you. Come over and let's chat."
"Ah, well, haha..." Hayden glanced at the knife in Thor's right hand, swallowed hard, "I, I just felt that the corpse was a bit strange, so I thought I'd come and see if there was anything I could help you with."
Thor laughed.
"Thank you so much! I'm really busy right now, could you help me move it inside?"
"Look at me..." He showed Hayden his small body, "I'm young and weak, I can't move such heavy things."
Hayden's smile froze on his face; he was just being polite!
But seeing that Thor was still gripping the cleaver tightly in his right hand, Hayden gave in.
He climbed out of the teleportation portal step by step. "Haha, you're too young. Are you ten years old? Senior, let me help you carry it."
"Wait a minute." Thor suddenly threw the cleaver back onto the workbench with a clanging sound, then turned back and gave Hayden a bright smile.
"Senior, I was just joking. You're really coming here like this? Go back quickly. This isn't a passage for the living. I can do these things myself. Otherwise, my supervisor might misunderstand and think I'm not suitable for this job."
"Huh? Okay then, you can call me if you need anything." Hayden froze halfway and had no choice but to turn back.
Thor stood at the portal, lifted the tassel, and coldly watched Hayden retreat step by step until he finally returned to his room.
As the tassels on the opposite side fell, the light streaming into the passage from there was blocked.
The passageway is three meters long, and about one meter wide and high. It is surrounded by thick walls, separating two rooms.
If it weren't for this central passageway, the room's soundproofing would be excellent.
Thor put down the tassel, looked up, and saw that the candlelight above the teleportation portal had turned dim yellow again.
That's all for today's work.
However, there are still some finishing touches to be made.
So I pushed the large box under the worktable next to the conveyor belt, and then picked up the cleaver again to scrape the pieces of meat off the conveyor belt little by little.
A round, plump thing fell down the edge of the conveyor belt, bounced a few times on the ground, and finally rolled all the way to the door, where it was stopped by the door.
What is that?
Thor gripped his knife and walked to the door, ready to attack at any moment.
Upon closer inspection, he realized that what was on the ground looked like... an eyeball?
The hardcover book flew up again with a rustling sound and appeared in front of Thor, who immediately became fully alert.
[October 24, 314th year of the lunar calendar, sunny]
Today is a good day. You dodged an attack from a cunning enemy, sent him to where he belonged, and gained a Phantom Eye.
It's strange, why can eyes talk?
Or do you think the eyes are speaking?
Thor didn't quite understand the contents of this hardcover book.
He didn't understand how he died.
Eyes? Hallucination?
Will his eyes split open? Will his mouth disappear, or will it be sealed shut?
Moreover, Saul noticed that a weather description had been added abruptly after the date on the hardcover book, something he remembered had never been there before.
Just as Saul stood frozen in place, unsure of what to do, the hardcover book flew back to his left shoulder.
But he didn't do anything, did he?
Thor's eyes suddenly lit up, thinking, "Could this not be a death omen? Or some kind of item description appraisal technique?"
Thor glanced at the hardcover book on his left shoulder. "Dude, you leveled up?"
Unfortunately, the hardcover book remained quiet and ignored him.
"Sigh, you should create a brief introduction for yourself first."
Despite his suspicions, Thor remained vigilant, gripping his cleaver tightly as he slowly approached the eyeball in front of the door.
Judging from the contents of the hardcover book, it shouldn't be a death omen, but this is just Thor's own speculation, and he can't let his guard down yet.
Until Thor walked to the eyeball, slowly squatted down, took out a box, and used the back of his knife to push the eyeball back in, the hardcover book did not issue any more warnings.
Saul stood up, sealed the box, and was filled with excitement.
Although he had dodged death warnings many times, each gain only temporarily saved his life. He never expected to receive an extra drop today.
Unfortunately, the hardcover book gave him no clues before he noticed the abnormality in the eyes.
I wonder if it can be upgraded again in the future to become a radar that can actively explore?
Putting away his illusionary gaze and his fantasies about the hardcover book, Thor stretched his facial muscles to make himself look even more gloomy.
Then, carrying a cleaver, he pushed open the door to the morgue.
Since arriving at the second floor of the East Tower, he had never explored the depths of the corridor.
He walked along the corridor, which was still curved, but the viewing angle was wider than on the tenth floor.
The lighting on the second floor always seemed dimmer than in other areas, and it got even darker the further you went in.
At the end of the corridor, it was pitch black, and Thor couldn't see what was lurking behind the shadows.
After walking a dozen or so steps, a second scarlet door appeared.
This should be the morgue where the senior student in charge of the second process is located.
Thor went up and knocked on the door.
After a long while, a sound came from inside the door.
The door was opened a crack.
Hayden's face appeared behind the crack in the door, his body completely blocking the view inside the room.
"Excuse me, senior. My name is Thor, and I'm an apprentice who just enrolled a month ago. I'm so sorry I don't know your name."
"I am Hayden." Hayden's hand was pressed tightly against the door, as if he were ready to slam it shut at any moment. "I became a first-class apprentice long before you. What are you doing here?"
"I'd like to ask Senior Hayden, when you were dealing with that body just now, did you notice anything amiss?"
Hayden shifted uncomfortably. "Oh, that thing, I did find it a bit odd. But I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, or what value it held, so I just left it with you. Haha, I think you handled it quite well."
Thor stared intently at Hayden until the other looked away, then muttered under his breath, "Well, maybe I was mistaken."
Thor's grin was stiff. "Then I'll have to trouble you a lot in the future, senior."
After saying goodbye to Hayden, he turned and continued walking toward the first morgue.
Hayden quickly closed the door after Saul walked away.
The moment the door closed, his expression changed, and he said in a low, menacing voice, "What are you chickening out at a new apprentice?"
Hayden's expression changed again, and he nervously rubbed his hands together. "Well, no, there's no need to have a conflict. We'll have time to get to know each other in the future."
On the other side, Thor placed the cleaver in the shadows of the corridor.
He was going to use the knife against Hayden, but he couldn't do that to Byron.
He rubbed his face, and his gloomy expression turned polite again.
"Knock knock knock".
The same scarlet door slowly opened, and light poured out of the house. A woman who was only half a head taller than Thor stood in the doorway.
Thor was taken aback.
"I'm here to see Senior Byron. May I ask who you are?"
The woman, her eyes half-closed, spoke in a flat, monotone voice, "Byron has reached the age to leave the tower; he's gone back to pack his things."
"Leave the tower?" Solton momentarily forgot his original purpose and asked in astonishment, "Does this mean we have to leave the tower when we reach a certain age?"
