Chapter 312 Containers

The 20-story circular laboratory is the largest laboratory in the entire Wizard Tower.

Every mentor has a place here.

Saul is currently the only apprentice allowed to be here.

According to mentor Katz, Haywood and Kongsa also once had a place here, but they quickly lost their qualifications and were expelled from the 20th floor.

The only apprentice who wasn't kicked out was named Ivan, but he messed things up himself, and his body completely disappeared, leaving only a lost soul that wandered the dormitory area every night, searching for his physical form.

Upon hearing Kaz's description of Ivan, Thor immediately recalled the grey shadow he had encountered during his several nighttime visits to the Wizard's Tower.

Professor Katz sighed and said, "You absolutely cannot use yourself as a test subject."

But as soon as he finished speaking, he saw Thor, whose skin was ashen and who was nodding in agreement.

Some rules don't seem to apply to everyone.

Finally, Kaz instructed Thor on how to use the facilities and precautions in the circular laboratory, then left him there alone.

Thor carefully circled the laboratory.

Although this place is called a laboratory, it has become a place to showcase experimental results because it is a shared space for all instructors and participants.

Experiments that are less dangerous or require preliminary steps are never conducted here.

This is not a rule, but simply a convention.

If Thor wants to start his research here on his own, no one will stop him.

After all, no one usually appears here.

Katz's advisor said he could choose to conduct experiments under a mentor or start his own project. But he didn't need to rush; he could first review the experimental records here, especially those deemed unsuccessful and unnecessary for further research.

So as not to waste his time on the path that others have taken.

As for whether Thor will see some dangerous knowledge—he's already at level three, does he still need a mentor to guide him step by step?

After Kaz left, Thor didn't rush to look at the experimental records and corresponding books.

Thor flipped through the pages again, where there were records of the state of 1342 from different periods.

The record date on the bottom page is June 9, 310.

The frequency of information updates then increased, reaching as high as once a day in July 310. However, after August, the update speed suddenly dropped, eventually falling to once a month.

The experiment was stopped on January 1, 311.

From this account, Saul can imagine that the researchers started the experiment with great anticipation and enthusiasm, perhaps even believing success was within reach at one point. However, they ultimately failed. They racked their brains, trying to figure out where things went wrong, and constantly made improvements. But repeated failures gradually made the researchers realize that perhaps their approach was flawed, or perhaps they hadn't overcome a crucial hurdle.

In short, the experiment was cancelled.

The only good news is that it's suspended, not terminated.

Thor stood up. Although he was curious about the container in the sarcophagus, he did not intend to open it rashly.

The record clearly states that the state is unstable. If the contents are damaged after opening, it would ruin the work that the experimenters had poured so much effort into. It would also betray the incredibly difficult word "stop".

Thor browsed through some of the records hanging next to the sarcophagus and roughly summarized a pattern.

All the completely sealed sarcophagi here are containers for the termination of experiments—presumably those that were terminated didn't even qualify to remain in this laboratory.

Stone coffins with only a crack are mostly containers that are unstable or somewhat dangerous.

A container that is half-open or fully open has been used within the last month.

As long as the lid of the sarcophagus is open, it means that the experiment is still ongoing.

However, Thor scanned the entire room, and with his extremely strong mental power, he immediately calculated the number of all the unsealed sarcophagi.

Not many, 12.

There are 117 completely enclosed ones.

Next, Thor returned to the circular experimental table in the center of the laboratory.

This circular experimental table is clearly intended for shared use by multiple people. The tabletop is made up of individual polygons, and any polygon can be moved in front of the user if needed.

There is also a pipe in the middle of the experimental table that runs straight to the roof. This pipe can directly transport the necessary materials—including spirits.

Thor initially thought it was some kind of modern mechanical structure, but when he opened the pipe door, he found inside the slender arm that had once passionately chased after him.

These arms were different from the ones I had seen outside the bronze door on the first floor of the East Tower; they were all quietly and obediently tucked inside the pipes.

Thor didn't know if the arms remembered him, but he remembered them very clearly.

These long, thin, noodle-like arms tormented him quite a bit, both when he was trading candles with Ferguson and when his soul was pulled out of his body by the ugly woman behind Haywood.

"Why are you being so obedient now?" Thor rested his chin on his hand. "Is it because this isn't somewhere else in the East Tower? Is it because this is the Tower Master's laboratory?"

These arms were not as wild and chaotic as they appeared; at least when facing the Tower Master, they knew to restrain themselves.

It's pointless to argue with a bunch of chaotic, broken spirits...

"Bang!" Thor slammed the pipe door shut with his palm.

"Sooner or later I'll use you as guinea pigs!"

Thor has now explored most of the lab, and occasionally his diary will appear to remind him not to touch certain places.

Of course, with Thor's current eyesight, he is also very good at recognizing danger.

"Next, we need to determine the research direction." Thor walked back to the bronze gate and, imitating his mentor Katz, placed his hands on the left and right sides of the gate. "I do have an idea, but I don't know if it's feasible."

Lost in thought, he pushed open the door to the 20th floor. He waited there for a while, listening for the faint sounds behind the door to fade away, before stepping out.

However, as soon as he took a step out, the light in front of him suddenly dimmed.

Thor turned around instantly and found that the bronze gate behind him was closed, but the walls on both sides of the gate were different from the walls on the 20th floor of the East Tower.

The fine scratches on the wall told Saul that this was not the 20th floor of the East Tower.

He looked back at the dark corridor behind him and finally realized that he had passed through the bronze doors on the 20th floor and arrived at the bronze doors on the first floor of the East Tower!
