Chapter 289 The Visitor
A young girl, whose average age is unknown, is using her charm to seduce her master.
Unfortunately, Thor's emotions had not yet returned to normal. He stared fixedly at Anne's lovely face and coldly uttered two words.
"go back."
The six-handed girl, now renamed An, shrank her neck and instantly transformed into a streak of black light, disappearing into the diary.
The next second, the pedestal shook more violently, and the black display screen fell to the ground with a bang, but did not shatter.
Thor's white coat faded away like water, returning to his black apprentice robe.
The octopus-like tentacles contracted and tightened, transforming back into slender human hands.
Thor closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again; he was back in the Blackburg laboratory.
When he opened his eyes, the effects of the Grinding Fruit medicine began to wear off rapidly.
Various emotions began to gush out like a spring that had been dredged.
The world before Thor's eyes was still shaking.
He steadied himself and realized that Xiao Zao was shaking him.
It turns out that he didn't run out of time, but was forcibly disconnected from the "power supply".
"What's wrong, Xiaozhao?" Thor wasn't angry; he knew Xiaozhao had already discovered something.
After Xiaozhao noticed that Thor had woken up, she made way for him, and another dark green vine crawled in from the ventilation opening above. Its slender branches and leaves stretched out like human hands, lying flat in front of Thor.
Thor reached out and placed his hand on the other's leafy palm, channeling his mental energy.
In an instant, he re-entered the world of the Black Fortress vines and sensed their presence.
A carriage entered Blackburg Forest and had already passed through the Mushroom Path; it was about to arrive at the gates of Blackburg.
"Someone's coming?" Thor released his grip. "I know. Devil Vine, stay alert. If anyone else approaches stealthily, notify me immediately."
The dark green branches swayed to indicate that they understood.
The Devil's Vine is the giant vine that grows beneath Blackburg.
It is found throughout the Blackburg Forest, and if used at full power, it can monitor the movement of the entire forest.
Since becoming the temporary master of Blackburg, Thor has been running the Devil Vine at full power.
After all, compared to the experienced third-level wizard apprentices of the past, his self-defense methods were still somewhat lacking.
Since it has been confirmed that someone came, and that they were traveling by carriage, it is unlikely that they harbored malicious intent.
"It's only been three days since I became the temporary master of Blackburg, so the Wizard Tower shouldn't have received the news yet. It's likely that the one coming from Mobei City, which is half a day away from here."
"They should already know about Mochi Mochi's death. Did they come to say hello, or do they have something specific to do?"
Thor recalled the sensations that the Devil Vine had transmitted to him.
"The tracks are heavy; it came carrying goods. Could it be a supply convoy?"
Thor stepped out of the magic circle, and Xiao Zao picked up his cloak, which he had casually tossed on the back of his chair, and brought it to him.
He took the cloak with one hand, gave it a gentle shake, and covered himself from head to toe.
Thor then quickly left the lab and jumped down the stairs.
As he moved, countless black vines instantly sprouted from the wall. The leafless vines were as thick as giant pythons, and as they slid along the wall, they intertwined and overlapped, making a sound like skin rubbing together.
Like giant black tentacles, they followed Thor closely, arriving with him at the gates of Blackburg.
The next moment, Thor reached out to open the door and saw the wizard Brie just stepping up the steps.
Thor narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Your presence has become even more imposing these past few days, Your Excellency Saul." A cheerful smile instantly spread across Brie's face.
"Hello, Lord Brie, what brings you to Blacksburg?"
The wizard Brie casually turned to the side and pointed to the carriage behind him.
"The day to deliver supplies to Blacksburg is approaching. I imagine Lord Saul has become the temporary master here, but perhaps you need something, and I can come and help you with that."
Thor glanced at the carriage. There was a faint magical fluctuation on it, and he couldn't sense anyone else.
"Please come in. I'm not very familiar with things here yet, but other apprentices will soon take over my work, and then you may need to send someone over."
"That's no problem at all," Brie said with a smile as she entered. "Would you like me to help you carry the goods inside?"
Thor glanced at it and said, "No need, I have plenty of manpower."
The two walked into the long, narrow corridor and arrived at the slightly more spacious hall.
This place has been decorated in a magnificent style by Mochi Mochi, making it the perfect place to entertain these court wizard apprentices.
As the two entered the castle, dark green vines emerged from the ground and reached into the carriage.
The magical protection on the carriage had been removed, and the vines entered the carriage without any hindrance, rolled up a large box of well-sealed goods, and carried it in through the back door of the castle.
While Devil Vine was busy working as a porter, the wizard apprentice Brie was already sitting on a soft, comfortable sofa, praising Thor's aesthetic sense.
"Did you plant these vines on the wall? They look much more impressive than the original devil vines."
While he was praising her, the wizard Brie was actually inwardly agonizing.
These wizards who specialize in dark magic have such strange tastes! Who would fill their own walls with unsightly climbing plants?!
Especially since those black, leafless vines would twitch from time to time, they looked more like a giant black python entangled together.
Bree was deeply conflicted, but she still had to maintain a polite smile on her face.
Thor was unaware that Brie's trypophobia was about to be triggered by the algae.
While calmly exchanging pleasantries with Brie, he secretly clasped his hands together, holding them tightly.
The immense force caused the bones in his hands to groan.
Bree paused, looking around curiously. "Huh, what's that sound?"
Thor's hands ached, but he remained unfazed. "It must be these vines I've been raising; they're more active than the devil vines."
As soon as Thor finished speaking, the vines on the wall wriggled even more vigorously.
Brie's lips twitched, but in the end, she couldn't bring herself to praise him against her will again.
"Don't worry about it, please continue."
"...Then let me continue with the aftermath of the Battle of Sail." Brie tried to ignore the noise on the wall. "The pollution has been completely cleared now, but that land will probably be uninhabitable for at least ten years."
"Ten years isn't a long time."
"Yes, but if someone moves into that town ten years from now, there's a high probability they'll produce deformed offspring. I wonder if the Wizard Tower is interested in this? If the Wizard Tower has already given up on Mosail Town, the Duchy is willing to offer five hundred live experimental subjects to buy out the place."
Thor didn't respond. "Let's wait for the next owner of Blackburg to discuss this."
Brie paused, realizing that Saul wasn't interested in these things, and quickly changed the subject with "Oh, oh, okay."
"The old man you entrusted to my care has settled in a small town near Mobei City. I bought a hundred acres of land and twenty servants to take care of him, and I also made arrangements with the local nobles. Rest assured, the old man will have no more worries in his future life."
Thor simply nodded and didn't ask any further questions.
His hands, clasped together beneath his robes, began to tighten again.
Seeing that Saul didn't seem interested in continuing the conversation, Bree knew he might not be very popular at this moment. Anyway, he had finished his business and got up to leave.
"Then I won't disturb your research any longer. I hope you have a pleasant time in Blackburg. If you come to Mobei City in the future, you can always come to the City Lord's Mansion to find me."
Saul stood up as well, merely nodding in response to the small talk.
He then escorted Brie all the way to the entrance hall, watching him board the now-empty carriage, leave Blackburg, and disappear into the dark woods.
The moment the carriage disappeared from his sight, the door in front of him slammed shut by a black tentacle.
Immediately afterwards, Thor collapsed.
He clutched his chest and curled up into a ball.
Xiao Zao hurriedly ran out, looking at Thor with a bewildered expression.
Thor managed to lift his head, his eyes already bloodshot.
He gritted his teeth and said, "Damn it, the side effects of the 'Grindnut Extract' are terrible. I'm experiencing severe mood swings right now."
"The thought of all those pages I abandoned and destroyed makes my heart ache so much I want to cry!"
