Chapter 284 Turning the Tables

Chapter 284 Turning the Tables

As Thor's Spirit Mark vines successfully took hold, everything around him slowly began to come back to life.

The vines obediently stretched out their roots and continued to penetrate deeper into the soil, and the dampness in the underground passage began to slowly decrease. A small white mushroom even sprouted under Thor's right foot.

"It seems the Elder Vines approve of you; I can feel Blackburg recovering rapidly." Yura looked up. "Alright, let's get out of here. It's too damp in here; I feel like the joints of this body are going to grow mold."

Thor was still observing the changes around him when he heard this, and slowly took a step to follow Yura.

This vine planted under Blackburg is truly amazing.

As Thor began to move away from the roots, he could feel a very active root suddenly growing from the soil, following his steps.

Each time his foot lands, it's as if he's touching the roots below through a thin layer of soil.

Saul found it very amusing, and he raised his right hand, reaching towards the wall to one side.

Immediately, he felt the root system split into two, one of which quickly and excitedly extended upwards. Just as Thor's palm touched the soil on the side, a small tip suddenly emerged and gently "high-fived" him.

"Wow!" Thor found it amusing and immediately raised his left hand, reaching towards the other wall.

The underground rhizomes split again, growing even faster into the soil where Thor's left hand was touching.

The palm and the root system came into contact again.

"Ha." Thor finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Yura, who was walking ahead, turned around in confusion. The doll's head was turned directly behind it. "What are you doing?"

"Uh..." Thor realized that his actions just now were a bit childish. Especially to outsiders, it looked like he was just grinning foolishly.

"Ahem." He awkwardly withdrew his hands, secretly rubbing the dirt off his fingertips. "I was just sensing the changes in the vines."

It's definitely not just playing with the root system!

Yura looked at Thor suspiciously, then turned her head away after a few seconds. Her neck joints made a grinding sound, like wood grinding together. It seemed she really had grown hair.

The two left the underground cave, exited the wine cellar, and closed the hidden door.

At this point, Thor lost contact with the root system underground.

However, after Thor and Yura left, the rhizome, which had been growing quietly underground, suddenly trembled slightly and with difficulty.

Who...who is he? Why can he...possess my entire body with just a mental connection?

The faint voice no longer carried the impatience it had when speaking to Thor; it now contained a subtle tremor, just as its outward appearance suggested.

And... who are you? What did that boy leave inside me?!

No one responded.

……

The doll-like body containing Yura's spirit is truly malfunctioning. And it's not just a simple matter of hair growing on it. Yura's entire movement is becoming sluggish.

"I'm going back now. I've requisitioned your driver." Yura quickened her pace, but her hip joints began to make strange noises.

"Winnie, are you alright? Is there anything I can do for you?"

"It's nothing, it's just that there's something unexpected inside this doll's body, I need to go back and clean it up right away. You don't need to see me off."

After saying that, Yura pushed open the gate of the Black Castle and rushed out like the wind.

Outside the gate, the coachman was still waiting. He was squatting on the ground, looking at the roadside weeds.

Suddenly he felt another gust of wind blow into the carriage, followed by a sound like phlegm.

"Back to the tower!"

The coachman was startled and quickly stood up, only to find that Saul was still standing at the door and had not gotten into the carriage.

His expression looked somewhat bewildered.

Saul nodded to the coachman, signaling him to hurry up and set off.

The coachman hurriedly climbed into the carriage, gave Saul a slight bow, and drove the carriage quickly away from Blackburg Forest.

Now, Thor is all alone in Blackburg.

He turned around and saw that on the narrow gate of the Black Castle, where there used to be eyes, a black tentacle suddenly extended.

These tentacles look so familiar.

"Little Algae?" Thor immediately raised his hand and touched the back of his neck.

A thin black tentacle immediately extended from within, wrapped around Thor's index finger, and then immediately loosened and retracted.

"When did Little Algae get inside? Wait, wasn't that the one who was just high-fiving me in the soil?"

Thinking of this, Thor quickly returned to the underground area he had just been in.

When he re-entered through the secret door of the wine cellar, he immediately sensed that the surrounding environment was different from before.

The air here is still humid, but not as stuffy as it was at the beginning, and the ground has become softer, feeling slightly muddy when you step on it.

When Thor walked up to the once thick rootstock, he was astonished to find that in just a few minutes, it had become noticeably thinner!

"Little Algae?" Thor called out to it.

No, I'm not, but if you... you mean that black tentacle rooted in my body... I think it's responding to you.

As soon as the deep voice fell, several black tentacles sprouted from the soil around Thor.

He felt as if he had returned to that abandoned underground laboratory beneath the wizard's tower. That enclosed basement, its surface covered with floating corpses and tentacles as thick as a person's embrace.

Thor looked down, raised his foot, and stomped it again.

The stickiness is more pronounced, and your feet will sink slightly when you step on it.

It's really starting to resemble a swamp more and more.

Why did the algae transfer to your body?

"...Wasn't this something you did? Just now, when you and I established a mental connection... Waaah..."

Wait, is this big guy crying?

[...Your powerful mental strength broke through the boundaries of the mental connection, took over my entire body, surveyed the forest and the castle, and then retreated.]

But you left behind... Little Algae, and now it's desperately absorbing my nutrients.

Thor was stunned.

So the painful feeling of confinement he just experienced wasn't caused by a mental connection?

It wasn't because he used his mental power to thoroughly examine the other person from head to toe. Before leaving, he even left behind an uninvited guest who tried to steal the house and food.

[Could you please control it? If this continues, my tendrils will wither, and the entire Black Castle will collapse.]

"Little Algae," Thor called out after a moment of silence.

A long, thin, black tentacle emerged from behind his neck, grinning at Thor with its shark-like mouth, and clicking its teeth together.

"Take it easy, don't eat too much. We'll be staying here for at least another ten days."

Little Algae nodded happily immediately, then shrank back inside.

Thor then spoke to the roots of the vine, "Is it alright now?"

Thank you for your generosity, and I apologize for my rudeness when we first met.

"It's alright." Thor left the vines where they were.

Perhaps because of the change of owners, the atmosphere inside the Black Castle was somewhat different, and the tall, thin buildings gradually became less distorted.

It's more in line with Thor's aesthetic.

Instead of looking for Mochi Mochi's room, he randomly entered a guest room and sat down on a long, narrow bed that resembled a coffin.

"It would take at least ten days to travel here by horse-drawn carriage and back. During that time, I'll be all alone here."

Thor remembered the bag of Grinding Fruits he had painstakingly retrieved from Grinding Sail Town.

"Actually, I don't need to go back to the tower. I can completely rebuild a consciousness platform array here. This place is my territory now!"
