Chapter 28 Endless Learning, Never-Ending Work
Chapter 28 Endless Learning, Never-Ending Work
If a composite rune is simply the overlapping projection of two different runes, then there are countless solutions. Fortunately, Thor reread "Introduction to Rune Construction" and discovered the basic constraints that he had not noticed before.
With these conditions in place, the three-dimensional structure of the composite graphic was finally determined.
The two runes are located on planes that overlap in three-dimensional space. Since they are the same size, the magic power they distribute should also be evenly distributed.
If you were to truly distribute the magic power between the two images and text according to the size ratio visible to the naked eye, it would inevitably fail.
Thor held up the three-dimensional drawing he had just completed with both hands, closed his eyes, and began to depict it in his mental space.
About an hour later, he suddenly opened his eyes, his face full of excitement.
"I'm choking! I did it!"
A wave of fatigue followed, almost causing Thor to collapse to the ground.
The construction of a single complex rune consumed all of his magic power.
How can he then cast 0th-tier magic?
Thor felt a surge of panic. Could it be that his magical talent was not even enough to support the simplest witchcraft?
"Calm down, calm down. This is my first time constructing a composite rune. I probably didn't use a lot of magic effectively and it was wasted."
Unfortunately, his magic power was exhausted, so he couldn't immediately try to construct a second time. He could only take out the crystal ball and begin meditating.
"Sizzle!"
The bright candlelight awakened Thor from his meditation.
He turned his head to look. "We've got a job."
Being interrupted while studying is painful, but who can blame him when this job is the cornerstone of his life change?
The conveyor belt hummed, and a new corpse appeared before Thor through the tassels.
To alleviate his fear and stress, Saul chose to refer to the corpses as guests, much like someone returning home late at night and wanting to hum a song.
"Hmm, this guest died a rather gruesome death."
It was less a corpse and more a pile of minced meat, so minced that bone fragments were mixed with meat scraps and visceral fragments.
It was also held in place by a large piece of leather with raised edges, otherwise it would have leaked out.
Saul selected a clamp from the tools behind him.
He looked around and saw that the scraps of meat were covered with tiny, faint glimmers. They were so faint that it was obvious they weren't valuable, and it wouldn't matter if he threw them away.
Thor endured the discomfort and carefully bent down to pry it open.
However, to his surprise, the glittering fragments were not from the corpse, but rather some fine powder.
Saul switched to a smaller pair of tweezers and picked out a few slightly larger pieces of white powder.
Surprisingly, they retained their original color amidst the flesh and blood, and were not stained red.
He spent time collecting a small handful, and his back ached from it.
Saul kept a little, and wrapped the rest in brown paper, placing it in a small box on the long table behind him.
Thor used his hand to gather the remaining parts of the body, pulling out the leather underneath and dumping it all into the large box at the bottom, then closed the lid.
The box seemed to have the effect of isolating odors, and the smell of blood in the room immediately decreased by several degrees.
The candlelight above the conveyor belt was still bright.
There's still life.
Thor pulled down the wrench and watched as the conveyor belt delivered the next customer to him.
The guest was a little girl, who looked no more than five or six years old.
Thor turned his head, somewhat reluctant.
How could there be such a young girl in the wizard's tower?
He had never heard of any wizard getting married and having children here.
Unfortunately, death is always indiscriminate; it will not spare anyone just because people feel sorry for them.
Thor let out a long breath, straightened his head and attitude, and continued to observe the corpse using a semi-immersive meditation method.
"No, she's not a little girl."
Upon closer inspection, Saul made another discovery.
"Their teeth and bones don't look like a child's."
Fortunately, thanks to the knowledge he gained from the book "The Corpse," Saul was able to make some distinctions.
"It must have been an apprentice who, due to the influence of some kind of witchcraft, had his appearance transformed into that of a child, but his internal organs and bones remained those of an adult."
Although he knew it was somewhat unfair to the woman in front of him, Thor's clenched heart still felt a little relieved.
He finished quickly and put the rest into the large box below.
The lights on the conveyor belt were still bright.
"Sigh, there's still work to be done..."
The third guest must have been in a battle; his body was covered in cuts and slashes, and his head was pierced through, revealing the black conveyor belt below.
After finishing his work, Thor looked up.
The lights were still on.
Why are there still more?
He suddenly looked up at the time and realized it was already 6:30.
Half an hour was simply not enough time for him to carefully examine the entire corpse.
However, he had already submitted enough materials today, so the last guest could just give him a perfunctory response.
The last guest appeared with the rumbling sound of the conveyor belt.
She is a voluptuous woman.
She may have died from some kind of curse, as her body was covered with countless cracks.
But no blood flowed from the tear.
Thor used meditation to look at it and was surprised to see countless translucent tongues sticking out of the crack.
Like baby birds waiting to be fed by their mother, their tongues all turned around and swayed their soft bodies toward Thor.
Saul extended the tweezers, and the tongues turned as if waiting to be fed.
Thor got goosebumps watching it.
Whatever those tongues were, he didn't want to touch them with his hands.
Moreover, the corpse in front of them was very intact, and it seemed that the apprentices in charge of the first two processes hadn't touched her much.
Thor turned around, preparing to change to a longer clip, but immediately noticed the small white crystal he had clipped.
He picked one up with tweezers and moved it back above the crack in the female corpse.
This time, the tiny, transparent tongue that was close to the tweezers actually retracted into the crack, seemingly afraid of the crystals.
Moreover, when the translucent tongue retracts into the slit, sparkling spots appear when the slit protrudes.
"This crystal... does it possess the power to ward off evil spirits?"
Saul withdrew the tweezers, and the tongue popped out again.
Thor simply threw the tiny crystal, no bigger than a grain of rice, into the crack.
"Sizzle!"
Accompanied by a faint burning sound, a wisp of green smoke emerged from the crack.
Thor quickly took two steps back and held his breath.
Fortunately, the smoke dissipated quickly, and the hardcover book did not react.
He waited a while, then returned to the body, cut open the opening where the tongue was no longer there, and searched for a while.
The original small crystal has completely turned into powder, so it seems to be useless now.
Thor then pinched out a small lump from the flashing light.
"If I destroy a tongue with a crystal, I'll get a tumor. So, of course, I'll choose... the crystal!"
Thor turned around and opened the box where he had just stored the crystals. When he closed the lid again, the small bag of crystals inside had turned into a lonely little fleshy lump.
The candlelight on the teleportation platform finally dimmed.
Thor finished packing his things and looked up to find it was already 7:30.
Do not linger at the East Tower after 8 PM.
He quickly grabbed the books and papers on the table, buried his head, and rushed out of the morgue.
"Um?"
A figure blocked Thor's path, and the two nearly collided.
However, the person in front stepped back early, causing Thor to miss his target.
"I'm sorry!" Thor apologized and immediately tried to leave, but after taking two steps, he stopped and turned back.
"Are you the senior student in charge of the first morgue?"
The person Thor almost bumped into came from the back of the corridor.
His hair was gray, but his skin didn't have many wrinkles.
His eyelids were drooping, and he looked half asleep.
"Hmm." The other person seemed to have a very good temper, or rather, not much desire to interact with people. He gave a low hum and was about to walk past Thor.
"Um?"
The listless second-level apprentice caught a glimpse of the blueprints in Saul's hand as he passed by.
"Um……"
He extended his index finger and pointed at Saul's right hand.
Thor looked down and saw what he was clutching in his palm—a three-dimensional coordinate composite rune diagram.
