Chapter 239 Information Sharing
Chapter 239 Information Sharing
Wright was fixing the girl's hair when he looked up and met Thor's gaze. He forced a weak smile onto his pale face.
He has paid off the 100 credits he owed Thor, but afterwards he has been intentionally or unintentionally avoiding Thor, and even spent a lot of time outside doing missions, and it is unknown what he is worried about.
A few seats away, there were people Thor knew.
Kukin, the former manager of the second warehouse, never contacted Saul again after his first attempt to trick him into taking the candles out of the warehouse failed.
He was probably frightened by the disappearance of his partner, Ferguson.
The tall and imposing Kukin sat there, carefully withdrawing his prying gaze. But his overly strong physique still made him quite conspicuous in the room.
There were many familiar faces in the activity room, but Thor couldn't name most of them.
But Byron wasn't there.
"It seems that the senior really keeps his distance from the mutual aid society."
He casually found a spot not far from the door and sat down.
A seat away, sat a thin, second-level apprentice whose face and the back of his hands had a metallic sheen.
She's in a similar situation to Keli, and should also be an apprentice majoring in metal element.
Not long after Saul sat down, Jero, who had been acting at the door, staggered in.
Luo Kai and Kong Sha also entered in turn.
It seems that Luo Kai ultimately failed to stop Kong Sha from entering.
However, Kong Sha was aware that she was not popular, so she chose to sit in an empty space with three consecutive empty seats on both sides.
However, Jero, who was the first to enter, looked around and then walked over to Thor, plopped down between him and the skinny, metallic-looking apprentice, and even crossed his legs.
The apprentice on the other side visibly tensed his muscles, while Thor, not recognizing this Jero, simply lowered his head and remained silent.
As Luo Kai, who was the last to enter, closed the door behind him, he said, "It's exactly nine o'clock. It seems the others have something to do and can't come. But there are more than a dozen people at this exchange meeting, and quite a few senior students have just returned from missions outside, so it should be quite fruitful."
However, at that moment, the door that Luo Kai had closed halfway was suddenly blocked by a hand.
He immediately put on a professional smile, "Is this some senior colleague? You're just in time. If you had come any later, the doors would have closed."
Luo Kai took a half step back, allowing the newcomer to push the door open and enter.
However, when the newcomer stepped into the activity room, Thor clearly heard someone exclaim in surprise. Even Jero, who was sitting next to him, stopped shaking his leg and glanced sideways at the door.
Thor turned his head and saw Haywood, who had heterochromatic blue and purple eyes and wore a wide cloak, slowly walking in.
"I'm quite lucky then." Heywood met Thor's gaze and nodded slightly.
But instead of coming over to Saul, he walked over to Kongsa and sat down.
It's not surprising that he and Kongsa knew each other.
What caught Saul's attention was that although Haywood was sitting to Kongsa's left, he deliberately left an empty seat between them.
If it were someone else, they might think this is just normal social distancing.
But Saul remembered that when Kongsa was standing, her eyes were always fixed on her left.
It seems there really is someone standing there.
Now, when Kongsha sits down, most of her eyes are looking to the left, as if that person is sitting in the empty seat to Kongsha's left.
Despite a few minor hiccups, the high-level exchange meeting of the mutual aid association finally started on time.
Luo Kai closed the door, and the parchment scroll in the middle of the venue automatically unfolded.
The top is decorated with a golden magic circle.
As Luo Kai chanted the incantation, several golden streams of light immediately flowed from the magic circle to the walls around the room. After crisscrossing several times, they converged at the door, forming a separate space sealed off by magic.
This caught Thor, who was sitting at the door ready to leave at any moment, somewhat off guard.
This high-level exchange was different from the ordinary exchange meetings he had attended before; he couldn't leave early.
However, seeing that everyone else looked calm, Thor sat down with peace of mind.
"Alright, today has been full of surprises. Let's begin. The first item on the agenda is about the progress of the mentors' experimental projects and some changes in the apprentices."
Luo Kai clapped his hands and got down to business.
"First, there's my mentor, Anze. We've been quite busy lately. A new compound has been discovered, and if we're lucky, you won't have to worry about food when you go out anymore. Just a small bite of this compound will provide enough energy to last you a month."
Saul was surprised that this mutual aid society meeting actually turned out to be a real exchange meeting. Moreover, the information being exchanged was something that should have been highly confidential, such as the research topics of their mentor.
But would Professor Anze really research this kind of compressed food intended to replenish energy?
Thor secretly observed the crowd, and everyone's expression was calm.
There was neither the joy of receiving information nor the dissatisfaction of hearing boring gossip.
Jero, who was closest to Thor, seemed to be tilting his head to observe him. However, Thor did not meet Jero's gaze.
He deliberately ignored the senior who had come to his door and looked at Wright diagonally across from him.
Wright was adjusting the skirt of the little maid on his lap. His expression was unusually serious, without any sense of shame.
Billy, standing next to Wright, remained staring at the ground with a gloomy expression, seemingly unconcerned about what Roca was saying in the center of the room.
On the other side, Kongsha's eyes were constantly shifting. When Thor glanced over, one of them immediately looked back.
"Kongsa seems a little nervous, her nerves are on edge." Thor nodded slightly to Kongsa and looked away.
Meanwhile, Haywood, who was sitting one seat away from Kongsa, had a contented smile on his face.
He didn't look at Saul, but stared intently at Rokai. He seemed genuinely interested in what Rokai had said.
Taking in everyone's reactions, Thor began to ponder what valuable information was hidden within Rokai's words.
"Professor Anze seems to be creating some kind of composite material. But I doubt his original intention was to make it for consumption. So, the progress Luo Kai mentioned is actually just an experimental failure?"
Luo Kai then shared some other information, mostly related to the apprentices.
His mutual aid society, in particular, always seemed to have news of new apprentices. Those exceptionally gifted children thus came into the sights of the higher-level apprentices.
I don't know if it's good or bad.
At this moment, Luo Kai suddenly mentioned a name that Thor was very familiar with.
"...The last new apprentice with some potential is named...George." Roca glanced at Thor, seemingly casually. "He's a rare individual with two senses in one soul. Although newcomers don't understand, many of you here will be interested in him, won't you?"
As soon as Luo Kai finished speaking, the previously quiet activity room was suddenly filled with some discussion.
However, the voice was ethereal and its source could not be found. It seemed to be the effect of a magic array that was blocking non-public speech.
Even whispered discussions were blurred out.
Luo Kai raised his hand to silence the murmurs.
"If any of you are eyeing George, I suggest you give up for now," Luo Kai shrugged. "Someone has already said they'll protect him for at least a year."
"Hmph!" This cold snort was quite obvious, as if someone was dissatisfied with the decision, raising their voice to openly express their attitude.
Before Luo Kai could say anything, Haywood suddenly spoke up, "Do you have some complaints?"
As he spoke, he looked at a third-level apprentice and accurately located the source of the sound.
The apprentice, who was being targeted by Heywood, was immediately stunned. After a moment, he understood what was happening and lowered his head to back down.
"No, I have no complaints."
Heywood smiled. "That's good. George has a rare talent. I want to observe him for a year before deciding whether to make him a material engineer or someone in charge of materials."
He looked around. "Does anyone else have any objections?"
"Of course not," Jero, standing next to Thor, suddenly interjected loudly. "Who would dare offend our warehouse manager?"
These words sounded like a compliment to Heywood, but Saul felt that Jero was being sarcastic.
He couldn't help but glance at Jero again. This guy dared to face Shanghaiwood head-on, so his strength was probably among the top three among the third-level apprentices.
Sorry, I went out today, so the second update is late.
