Chapter 223 More Money Required
The idea of enhancing one's spiritual body through devouring is still just a conjecture.
Thor wouldn't risk implementing an idea as soon as he had it, even with the diary as a safety net.
A lot of preparation is needed before an experiment can begin.
He has now chosen his topic; all that's left is to conduct research, implement the plan, and conduct inspections.
All of this will have to wait until he completes further transformation of his body and stops suddenly leaving his body.
Otherwise, if one leaves the body frequently, the possibility of encountering unknown dangers is too great.
Thor suppressed his excitement and finally remembered that Haywood was still waiting outside.
"Okay, it's not good to leave someone out there for so long."
He began to ponder how to allow his soul to leave his body.
Because the Gorsata chief warned him not to leave his body casually, Thor had always left his body passively and had not yet studied how to leave his body on his own.
But he had a hypothesis, and he believed it was highly feasible.
That is his meditation diagram—the erosion diagram.
The erosion diagram is a closed loop.
At the top of the image is a man walking in half a circle, which transforms into a monster with an octopus head.
The monster will turn back into a human after walking half a circle again.
If Thor's soul is a monster to his body, and he can transform from a monster (spirit state) into a human (body), then can he also actively transform from a human into a monster?
Saul consulted the diary but received no reply.
So he happily began the experiment.
Practice meditation.
Following the actions depicted on the erosion map, and assuming oneself to be a monster, one must remove the disguise...
"Assuming I'm a monster is a bit difficult," Thor said, rubbing his forehead. "Actually, when I returned to my body after my soul left my body, I didn't think about whether I was a monster or not; I just simply wanted to go back. Maybe now I just need to try simply wanting to get out..."
Thor tried again.
Sure enough, once you don't need to change your mindset, it becomes much easier to operate.
After several attempts, he slowly stood up from the spot and walked a semicircle in six steps.
Thor opened his eyes and looked down at himself.
No longer did he see a skeletal arm; turning back, he saw his own body slumped against the back of the chair.
"Success!" Thor smiled. "At least this way we can get Haywood's payment. We can also conduct some experiments on it later."
Although the tower master warned him that astral projection was dangerous, Thor couldn't resist the possibility of greatly enhancing his mental strength.
How can a wizard stay in a safe zone every day?
Besides, Saul has his diary to back him up.
He calmed his excited emotions, made himself appear more composed, and changed his face back to his current appearance before going out to meet Haywood at the warehouse door.
However, there was one obstacle before he could go out: the horde of corpses in front of the door. They were very enthusiastic and always wanted to invite Thor inside for a while.
Finally struggling to reach the door, Thor walked straight through the warehouse door.
This gate doesn't have the deadly rules of the bronze gate, so Thor can pass through it with more peace of mind.
Outside the door, Haywood remained standing in the same position, his eyes slightly lowered, his heterochromatic blue-purple eyes somewhat dim.
This time, Thor didn't make a point of showing himself like he did in front of George, but Haywood still spotted him instantly.
When Haywood looked up, his purple eyes were gleaming slightly.
Although it wasn't the first time he had seen Thor's spirit form, he still felt a sense of novelty and surprise. Heywood tried to restrain himself but couldn't resist exploring further.
"The time spent outside the body was several times longer than the time spent inside. If you weren't doing anything else, was this your first time intentionally attempting an astral projection?"
Sol defaults.
Heywood was still marveling, "You succeeded on your first attempt at astral projection, and so quickly at that! It means you've completely mastered the principles of this out-of-body experience. I'm so envious."
"Aren't you worried about saving your sister?"
Heywood then suppressed his curiosity and took out the black bottle again.
He pressed his hand on the seal and gently flicked it, causing the black sealing cloth to fall down, revealing half of the bottle opening.
A damp, musty smell from the basement immediately wafted out.
"You can bring your arm close to the bottle and get the scent from it; it will last for about ten minutes."
Thor brought his right hand closer, and soon he saw wisps of mist wrapping around his arm.
How could this scent be able to cling to a spirit?
Saul almost couldn't resist his curiosity, but the important thing now was to get Heidi out of the hidden compartment.
If he fails to retrieve it or arrives too late, he may miss out on the knowledge of the Nightmare Butterfly, and even if he were to exchange it with Haywood again, he would certainly pay a greater price.
He shook his hand to make sure the smoke was still clinging to his arm before looking up at Haywood and saying, "Then I'll go back and try it in the warehouse."
Heywood paused for a moment and asked, "Can't we try it here? If anything goes wrong, I can help you."
Saul simply stated his excuse—no, I mean his reason.
"If Heidi really did disappear after pulling me into the mezzanine beneath the warehouse, then I think it would be easier to find her if I went in the same way I came."
This time, Haywood nodded in agreement in less than a second.
"If you don't find her, you can come out here and try again. After all, the mezzanine isn't a solid space; it's normal for spirits to move around. If you come out, I can continue to try to deduce Heidi's location based on the scenes you discover."
Saul smiled. "There's an extra charge for multiple entries and exits into the mezzanine."
Haywood answered without hesitation, "No problem."
Saul walked through the warehouse door and went inside.
He didn't lie to Heywood; he only slowly sank back to his single bed.
Although I don't know much about the mezzanine, and doing this is a bit like trying to find a sword by marking the boat where it fell, it's still better than running around aimlessly and without direction.
Of course, Thor was also keeping a close eye on the diary, and if he intervened, the attempt would immediately cease.
This time, Thor, who had greater control over his own spirit, successfully sank into the interlayer and once again arrived at that dark space full of eyes.
Just like last time, he felt a burning gaze as soon as he entered the space.
All the eyes of different sizes in the black eye turned to Thor.
Enduring the burning pain in his body, Thor looked around. Eyes were everywhere, so densely packed that his hair stood on end. He quickly scanned the area but couldn't find Heidi's ugly face.
So I didn't dare stay in the diary for long and surfaced out of the compartment before I could come out to remind them.
"This hidden compartment feels very dangerous, much more mysterious than the pipes filled with wax. Since Heidi got lost in there and couldn't escape, she's probably in trouble. If she's really too deep, I can't possibly go in to rescue her."
For the sake of the Nightmare Butterfly's secret, Thor is willing to take the risk once again.
However, he waited a while before entering a second time, since Haywood attracted his sister with his scent, and the scent needed time to spread.
After waiting for about two minutes, Thor went in again, but found nothing. He left the mezzanine before the burning pain intensified.
"Try one last time. If that still doesn't work, then go out and ask Haywood for more money."
Having made his decision, Saul took a deep breath and re-entered the mezzanine via the same route.
As soon as he entered, he saw an extremely terrifying human face rushing towards him.
"Bang!" Thor instinctively threw out his right fist.
Then he realized that it looked like Heidi's face.
