Chapter 213 Mezzanine

Chapter 213 The Mezzanine (Part 1)

The giant turning the machine looked up and said slowly, "You... forgot to stick your head out."

The other giant put down the large box with a puzzled look. "Strange, I've already picked through it."

He reached inside and pulled the head out, cradling it in both hands. "Okay, put it away."

The giant turning the machine suddenly licked his tongue, his eyes fixed on the human head, the desire in his eyes was extremely obvious.

But in the end, he didn't say anything, just nodded, and continued turning the machine.

The machine, now without a human head, continued to operate, shredding the remaining contents inside.

Out of curiosity about how the giants dealt with human heads, Thor followed them to find out.

But as soon as he approached, a wailing, semi-transparent face suddenly emerged from the giant's head, silently collapsing and crying as it flew straight toward Thor.

Thor had just taken a step to the left when the mournful face deftly turned in mid-air and opened its mouth to bite Thor.

Thor hurriedly reached out to block, but he couldn't release any magic at the moment and could only rely on his spirit to withstand the attack.

The crying face bit Thor's arm with a "cough," and a dizzying, excruciating pain shot through Thor's consciousness.

Despite the pain, Thor ripped the face off the person biting his finger and tore it apart with both hands.

The crying face emitted a ghostly wail, sounding even more pitiful.

Thor remained unmoved, and with renewed force, tore the crying face in two. Not only that, he stacked the two halves together and continued tearing at it.

He only stopped, still shaken, after tearing the crying face into more than a dozen pieces.

The crying face could no longer utter a sound.

Thor released his grip, and the fragments vanished into blue smoke.

"That was dangerous!" Thor lowered his hand and wiped his face, which was covered in non-existent cold sweat. "Astral projection really does lead to trouble. I'd better hurry back."

Thor looked down and saw that his right ring finger was shorter than before; it was probably swallowed by the crying face after it bit his finger.

But by then, it was too late for Thor to get his finger back.

His crying face had already turned into wisps of smoke, and perhaps his fingers had vanished along with it.

As the crying face disappeared, the head in the giant's hand suddenly split open, breaking into more than a dozen pieces that could never be put back together.

Red and white liquid flowed from the fragments, trickling down between the giant's fingers.

"Ah, it's broken." The giant stood there dumbfounded.

The other giant, who was still turning the machine, immediately put down the handle and ran over with a clatter. "It's broken, but it's okay, eat it."

As soon as he finished speaking, he buried his head in the palm of another giant and began to devour it.

The other giant then came to his senses, quickly withdrew his hand, and brought his own mouth closer.

The two giants were fighting over the shattered head.

Looking at the chaos, Thor disgustedly looked away. "Are these giants cannibals? But they don't seem to react to the other corpses. Maybe they're brain-eaters."

Thor looked at his right hand with concern. "I wonder if there will be any other effects. I'd better go back as soon as possible."

He looked up and stepped toward the roof, preparing to walk directly through the ceiling of the floor.

He walked up into the air as if he were buying steps, until his head gradually disappeared into the ceiling.

But when he peered out from the ground level, he found that he had not arrived at the first floor of the East Tower, but had entered a dark mezzanine.

His head seemed to pierce through a thin, foamy membrane, meeting countless eyes.

Those eyes were densely packed together, one next to another, with pupils as small as pinholes.

The moment Thor peeked out, all those eyes instantly shifted their pupils and turned to look at him.

Solton felt a chill run down his spine. "Isn't this the mysterious space we passed through when the Tower Master led me through space to the second floor of the East Tower a dozen days ago? Could that room just now not be the basement?"

Unable to determine his location, he could only grit his teeth, endure the gazes of those eyes, and continue climbing.

But as soon as he entered the space, he felt his whole body burning hot, as if he had been doused with hot oil.

The diary, along with the shared pain, flew to him.

[May 12th, 316th year of the lunar calendar]

You developed a sleepwalking habit and fell from the sky to the ground.

Because the first fall took the monsters by surprise.

You escaped by sheer luck.

When this steaming hot and delicious treat appears again,

They decided,

Even if it angers the master,

You should also enjoy the food delivered to your door first.

Look down, is your body bubbling?

That was the mouthwatering sight of a pot of rich, creamy clam chowder being opened!

When Saul saw the diary, he prepared to run away. But after reading the contents of the diary, he turned and ran.

This time, he finally understood what it meant to be "on the verge of disaster."

Under the threat of death, he eventually learned, without any instruction, to fly and move like a ghost.

He slid back down into the air.

When he got back to the basement, Thor was still trembling all over.

It's not that I'm afraid, it's that it's hot.

He could almost see the steam rising from his body.

"If I stay there any longer, I'm afraid I'll really boil over."

After a while, Thor recovered.

He looked at the gate through which the giant had come in and decided to go back through the normal passage.

The East Tower was indeed much more dangerous than the West Tower; I almost died just trying to cross the wall.

He walked over, his body easily passing through the door of the giant's room, and cautiously peered into the corridor outside.

The corridor is the kind of ramp that is common in both the East and West Towers, gentle but with a certain amount of friction.

Thor walked up the slope and soon came to the end of the road.

There is a wall here.

"I haven't seen any other exits along the way, so the giant must have come in from here. Could there be some kind of trap here?" Thor continued forward, puzzled.

In any case, whether there are mechanisms or not, physical barriers are no longer effective against him.

However, he would be more careful when passing through the walls to avoid entering that space full of eyes again.

This time, however, Thor successfully passed through the wall and arrived in a dimly lit corridor.

There were also candles in the corridor, but they were dim and could not illuminate all areas, forming circles of light.

By this time, Thor was familiar with the place.

This is the dimly lit corridor that leads from the second floor to the first floor of the East Tower, a corridor that can make one's sense of direction difficult.

"Finally back. I can even have my soul leave my body while I'm sleeping. When I get back, should I order a coffin to trap my soul?"

Although Thor still felt the burning pain from the burns, he could feel that his mental state was stable. He knew that as long as he took some medicine or rested properly after returning home, he would recover quickly.

Therefore, he gradually relaxed.

This is also because of his exceptional mental strength. If it were someone with slightly weaker mental strength, the experience they just went through would have been enough to drive them insane.

Thor turned right and soon arrived at the first bronze door leading into the warehouse.

"Now that I don't have a body, how am I supposed to open the door?" He suddenly thought of this question again.

Before Thor could come up with a solution, the door in front of him was suddenly pushed open a crack.

"Could someone have come out?"

But before he could even marvel at his good fortune, he was astonished to discover that both bronze doors were opening outwards simultaneously.

If both doors open at the same time, stand still immediately until they close!

Despite being utterly shocked, Thor remained rooted to the spot as instructed by his mentor, Kaz.

Thin, long, white arms, like noodles, stretched out from inside, rubbing against the air, the ground, and the walls like blind people, as if searching for something.
