Chapter 179 The First Step to Gaining Recognition

Chapter 179 The First Step to Recognition

"Is there something wrong with that book?" Saul asked, somewhat surprised.

"No," Gorsa's voice remained gentle. "It's just that you don't need this book."

Saul gripped the only book he had left.

Logically, he should have offered the second book to the tower master at this point, but for some reason, he just couldn't bring himself to do it.

That loud thud felt like it had struck his heart.

With the arrival of the tower master, the faint conversations outside the library disappeared without a trace.

"Don't be afraid." The tower master winked at Thor, and his hand reappeared from under his cloak, holding a red candle that was half-burnt.

"Did you make this yourself?"

Thor was taken aback. Wasn't this the red candle that had been swallowed by the bronze gate?

Could it be that behind that bronze gate lies the location of the tower master?

"Yes, I used a little bit of candles from the storeroom, about the size of a fingernail. The rest of the materials were prepared by myself."

Now that he's been discovered, Saul can no longer lie.

Admit the truth honestly and strive for leniency.

Gorza wasn't angry, or at least he didn't show it.

"Well, Kaz used to appoint talented apprentices to guard the storeroom. But we found that the more talented the apprentice, the faster they consumed the materials in the storeroom. They were often too confident, and many died in experiments beyond their control. So I suggested that Kaz replace them with a mediocre person to guard the storeroom. In the first few years after you took over the storeroom, the rate of material consumption did slow down, and the apprentices guarding the storeroom were very dutiful and have survived to this day. But now that you've taken over, you've only been here a few days and you've already dared to tamper with my candles~ Now the materials in the storeroom are doomed."

Thor couldn't figure out whether the tower master was praising him or scolding him.

"I'm sorry, Tower Master."

Gorsa narrowed his eyes, withdrew his hand, and did not return the red candle to Thor.

"No need for apologies. Giving you the opportunity to look after the storeroom is tantamount to granting you permission to use the materials inside. The reason I replaced you with mediocre apprentices to look after the storeroom is because while the previous geniuses were enthusiastic about experimentation, they either lacked creativity or their experimental directions were not what I expected. This was, of course, a waste."

"But you're different. I really liked the first magical artifact you made. It seems I underestimated your abilities and talent. Only by giving you a bigger platform can I see greater gains."

"Now I'm giving you a choice."

Gorza walked slowly into the depths of the library, the white mist gradually obscuring his figure, but his voice remained as clear as if it were right next to you.

"If you are willing to accept this gift of knowledge, come in with me; if you are afraid of the unknown risks, leave the library."

Thor is now burdened with a lot of trouble.

The Nightmare Butterfly, whose fate may not be sealed for long;

The secret behind the body's melting mutation;

The problem of electric shock has not been resolved, so the arm remains a skeleton.

And the conspiracy about resurrection that Winnie mentioned...

Thor sighed deeply, and then... followed after him with an excited expression!

"The more debts you have, the less it itches! This is a gift of knowledge; just hearing the name makes my spirits boil! If I miss this opportunity, I'll regret it to the core!"

Thor clutched the book tightly to his chest, his body covered in goosebumps with excitement and his heart pounding with trepidation. With firm steps, he stepped into the white mist where the Lord of Gorsata had disappeared.

Once Thor was enveloped in white mist, he could no longer discern directions, and he couldn't even remember the way he had come from.

There were no bookshelves around, no walls in sight, and even the light was a blurry halo.

Just as Saul stood there lost and confused, a voice rang out.

"Follow me."

Gorsa's silver eyes appeared in the distant white mist.

Like a searchlight, it pierced through the endless night.

Thor quickly followed.

He vaguely felt as if he was climbing upwards.

Looking down at my feet, they were also hidden in the mist; the only thing I could see was the book I was holding in my arms.

After walking briskly for nearly five minutes, the white fog in front of me suddenly disappeared, and my vision cleared up.

Before Thor appeared a long, curved corridor, with floor-to-ceiling wooden bookshelves lining both sides.

The bookshelf looked ordinary, with some flower and leaf patterns carved on it.

Each bookshelf is filled with books, but not completely full. It looks like it has been carefully arranged, giving off a sense of enjoying life.

The books were laid out there without any attempt to conceal them, and they didn't seem to pose any danger.

Gorza stood at the end of the corridor, and Thor didn't dare to delay, quickly following after him.

"The books in the corridor are all miscellaneous books I collected during my travels. They're generally not very useful. But I do look at them occasionally; they're quite interesting."

Gorsa stood before a large white gate, adorned with golden magical circles, as ornate as a nobleman's gold ornaments.

"This room contains records of almost all research on the soul. Once inside, be careful to discern which knowledge you can access and which you cannot. I will give you a key; only you can enter. Anyone else who tries will be swallowed by the door..."

Gorza turned and looked down at Thor, "Just like that apprentice who was devoured yesterday."

"Yes, sir."

Since the Tower Master obtained the red candle, he must have known that Ferguson was also inside the bronze gate. But he came out with the red candle but not with Ferguson. Does that mean Ferguson is dead?

Are you left-handed or right-handed?

The topic abruptly changed, but Saul immediately replied, "My dominant hand is my right hand."

"Okay, then extend your left hand."

Thor raised his left hand, which was still a skeletal hand.

"Still no clue about modifying the spirit ester?" Gorsa asked casually, while suddenly raising his hand and breaking off a section of Thor's little finger.

Thor: ?!

Gorza took the tip of Thor's left little finger, turned around, and inserted it into the keyhole of the white door.

After waiting for about five seconds, he withdrew his hand and pressed the deformed skeleton back into Thor's left hand.

Thor stared blankly at his hands, the tip of his left little finger becoming thin and long, like the claws of a wild beast.

He even reached out his right hand and pulled twice, but his little finger remained firmly attached to his hand, showing no sign of falling off.

"Remember to use your key before opening the door next time. Oh, and make some preparations, you're going out at the end of May."

It's early May now, and there are still more than twenty days until the end of the month.

"Yes, Tower Master, where are we going?"

"I don't know, the driver will take you there. He'll help you resolve a problem that's been going on for two years. It might be a bit dangerous, so I suggest you bring plenty of emergency supplies."

After a moment's thought, Thor asked, "Tower Master, may I bring my other companions along?"

Gorsa looked at Thor and suddenly smiled slightly, "Some things are better left unshared."

"This mission is not easy; you can refuse if you're afraid."

"I accept." Thor accepted the task calmly without hesitation.

Although the tower master didn't say it explicitly, Thor knew that this was one of the tower master's tests.

If he refuses, he may be refusing all future opportunities.

Sure enough, the tower master's eyes curved into a smile after hearing Thor's reply.

After giving instructions, Gorza told Thor to act on his own and then entered the brown door next to the white door.

Behind that door should be the tower master's living room. Thor glanced at it and saw a comfortable sofa and a small table with food on it.

But Gorsa clearly had no intention of inviting Saul inside. The scene in the living room flashed by, quickly shut out by the closed door.

My journey home today was anything but smooth; my original train was canceled due to icy tracks. It took me ages to find another way to get home.

I'm exhausted, both physically and mentally. I haven't done anything, but I'll catch up on today's update first. However, I'll have to take a day off tomorrow. Sorry!
