Chapter 2 The Pope

"Stop!" the goddess finally spoke, unable to bear it any longer. "You've copied too much!"

"Ahem!" Truman coughed lightly, closing the Book of Revelation. "When it comes to missionary work, who can compare to that one? This is the most suitable path."

"I am not a god, and this is not my path," the goddess said pointedly, clearly refusing, for it would be far too shameful.

"Oh well, it'll get copied anyway, so I might as well do it myself," Truman muttered, his excitement growing.

"Soon you will be a god," Truman said.

"Hmm?" The goddess had already gained a deep understanding of the strange and mysterious nature of this collaborator.

"The Destruction Wolf is about to die!" These words were earth-shattering, and even the goddess changed color.

Truman learned about the current state of the world during a conversation with the goddess. The goddess descended to this world in an unknown year, which she did not reveal due to her caution.

But the eight ancient gods, including the giant king Ormir, the destroyer wolf Fregra, and the alien king Vahithun, have not died and are still fighting.

"Madmen will eventually be swept into the grave of history, so why don't we give them a push? This is the tide of history." Those ancient gods were indeed powerful, but they were too insane and beyond redemption.

"How do you know these things?" The goddess stared intently at Truman, her gaze shimmering with starlight, her expression far from calm.

Truman has been here for less than two months and hasn't even left the Dark City yet, so how would he know anything about the tides of history?!

"I have heard the prayers of all beings, and the will of Yours." Truman immediately assumed the position of the Pope.

"Is it the source of the power of the Book of Dreams?" The goddess ignored the second half of the question, lost in thought.

Truman's face darkened. The goddess's identity before her transmigration was not simple, and her sense of smell was extremely keen, even more so now.

"Okay." The goddess didn't ask any more questions, but nodded gently, accepting Truman's identity. The two had already established a certain level of trust, making many things easier to handle from then on.

This dark city is secretly protected by a goddess, and all its inhabitants are her devotees.

But outside this city lies an extremely bloody and primitive world.

Extraordinary creatures that eat anything and go mad, and a superhuman race that sees humans as food—this is a world of hellish difficulty for ordinary humans.

The City of Darkness was definitely an exception. Apart from that, even the city-states protected by the Old Gods could not escape various tragedies. After all, it was a crazy era, and the Old Gods themselves were unreliable.

From this perspective, this era should indeed come to an end.

"Now, my Pope, what do you wish to do?" The goddess's gaze fell upon Truman, serious and cautious.

"Do what I should do..."

Before long, Truman, holding the only copy of the Book of Night in the world, ascended to the top of the Dark City and raised the sacred book high.

"By the Goddess above, may we be granted peace and deep sleep."

"Praise be to the goddess!" All believers who are protected by the goddess know that they are lucky.

Living in this dark city, you don't have to be constantly on guard against those crazed monsters, and you won't be captured and eaten by extraordinary races. This is all thanks to the goddess!

hum!

A profound power rippled across the surface of the water, sweeping over all the believers in the dark city. Night-blooming jasmine and deep sleep flowers emitted faint glows, and an unprecedented tranquility soothed the hearts of all.

"Praise be to the beautiful goddess!" All believers uncontrollably praised the beautiful goddess.

It was at this moment that all the believers sensed something and looked up at the person standing under the goddess statue.

He was glowing; his linen robes shimmered with a dark light, and the divine emblem pinned to his left breast exuded a serene power.

"Goddess's Oracle, I am the Pope of the City of Darkness, you may address me as His Holiness the Pope."

Sparkling starlight fell from the goddess statue, seemingly coalescing into a starry crown, which was placed on Truman's head.

The people of this era are frighteningly pure, and the miracle that just occurred has shocked everyone's hearts.

"Praise be to the goddess, greetings to the Pope!" The similar praises grew louder and more unified. Suddenly, Truman felt that he had established a connection with these believers in a mystical sense.

At this moment, all believers understood the meaning of the so-called Pope: he is God's agent, who will manage believers in place of Goddess, and will be the believers' "father" in their faith!

"Faith and anchor?" Truman pondered the mysterious connection. In his perception, pure light points of different colors were gathering, gradually forming a small, slowly flowing galaxy.

"I knew it." Truman looked at the points of light before him with delight. "Gods need anchors to maintain their humanity, but what I need are these anchors of faith to pry open my Book of Dreams!"

The power of the Book of Dreams that he could originally wield was negligible, but now, with these anchors of faith in existence, he is able to leverage much greater power.

"I must ensure that believers have sufficient trust, respect, and even awe towards me." Truman also took a shortcut this time.

Becoming the Pope would allow direct access to the believers of the Dark City and the followers these goddesses had accumulated over the years.

Did you pluck the goddess's peach?

"Bravo, goddess!" Truman said this sincerely.

Moreover, at this moment, the dream book disguised as the Book of Night Revelation trembled slightly, and dreamlike phosphorescence sprinkled down from it, drifting onto the believers and merging into them.

Tonight's City of Darkness can also be called the City of Dreams, where believers will receive what they desire most and be healed from their deepest wounds.

But the biggest benefit is that the pollution that inevitably accumulates on their bodies every day is completely calmed down, and their mental state reaches its peak.

"May our dreams come true!" said Saint Truman, the Pure One.

The next day, after a sleepless night, Truman, now fully awake, led thousands of believers in prayer.

"Thank the goddess for giving me food!"

Truman's goal was to ensure that this city-state and even one of the future Orthodox churches would forever remember his name, starting with every aspect of life, the most important of which was, of course, "eating".

The goddess was indeed very kind to this dark city. A bountiful stone, equivalent to the four saints of later generations, was placed at the foot of the goddess's statue. Its radiating range encompassed the entire city, and fruits, milk, and other foods were abundant in the city.

Such a city-state could be considered a paradise in this era.

Truman then went on to do various things, making believers truly feel God's omnipresence in their daily lives. He devised a whole set of somewhat cumbersome prayer procedures and, in the name of the Pope, wrote them into the Book of Revelation at Night.

At the same time, he also incorporated elements that originally appeared in the later true "Revelation of the Night" and rewrote them according to the times.

"The Creator awoke from chaos, broke through the darkness, and created the first ray of light..."

"In the Second Age, the goddess awakens from darkness and will reclaim the power that was usurped from her..."

"Wow, goddess!"

Basically, Truman set the framework for "The Night Revelation," and all subsequent popes could only patch it up.

He even offered a book as a sacrifice to the goddess, but I wonder if she would feel embarrassed if she saw it...

On this day, Truman dutifully led all the believers in prayer, having already devised a simple Mass procedure, which was enough to ensure that his title of Saint Truman would be passed down to future generations as the Dark City developed and changed.

"The goddess is calling me." But not long after, Saint Truman, who laid the foundation for the Church of the Night, disappeared, leaving behind only this sentence.

Truman wasn't lying to these innocent lambs; the goddess really did come looking for him!

The goddess was eventually moved, or more likely, she had planned it all along, but Truman's appearance provided her with a better option.

After all, He was a follower of the Destruction Wolf, and His hidden abilities were completely countered by the Destruction Wolf, making many things inconvenient for Him.

"...Please!" The goddess's gentle voice rang out beneath the statue.

Two things appeared before Truman through a reverse-stealth method, gradually becoming real.

A glove and a dark robe.

"The Ancient Gloves can summon me from the mists of history, and can also take you anywhere in the world."

"The Sage's Robe, the master of knowledge, can also transform into an information being."

"This is what the Pope deserves."

"Hiss!" Truman's eyes lit up as he held the two items in his hands. "A fusion of Planeswalker and Ancient Scholar, and the knowledge of a Sage!"

Wow! How did ancient scholars end up mixed up with Planeswalkers?

Hmm... well, in this era where people eat everything, it's not entirely incomprehensible.

And the Sage's Robe is a good thing too!

Now that Truman has come to this world, he possesses the Book of Dreams, which is enough for self-defense, but his combat power is too unstable. With these two items, as long as he doesn't provoke those gods and ancient gods, he can go anywhere in the world!

This person, known as the Pure One, is not afraid of pollution and naturally doesn't need to worry about any side effects.

"I will not fail your trust!" Truman said solemnly. In the time that followed, Truman was getting used to the two magical items. The spiritual energy was provided by the Book of Dreams, which was virtually endless, and there was no need to worry about any negative effects. He could even use the abilities within it at will.

"I can't drink potions anymore, does that mean I'm destined to become the greatest collector?"

Imagining himself pulling out countless magical items to crush any enemy he encountered, Truman raised an eyebrow slightly. "That doesn't seem so bad."

"But this isn't a long-term solution either..."

Truman fiddled with the two items, gazing at the Book of Dreams in deep thought.

Several days later, Truman, having made all the necessary preparations, arrived at the statue of the goddess.

As the twinkling stars fell, the goddess escorted Truman out of the dark city.

Truman appeared in a vast, endless primeval forest that stretched to the horizon.

Now he has changed into the robes of a sage, the dark robes adorned with starlight, holding in one hand the Book of Dreams disguised as the Apocalypse of the Night, and wearing the Ancient Gloves with hidden and eerie patterns on the other.

Her short, black hair was flowing and elegant, and her inner qualities were even more outstanding. She had a fair complexion, bright eyes, and even angelic wings on the spiritual level, truly like an angel descending to earth.

In short, it looks great and makes people feel good about it, so they can't help but want to get closer.
