Chapter 4 Spell Models

As soon as he stepped out of the administration building, Pei Ze found a place to change into his apprentice robes and pinned on his apprentice badge.

It was just a simple gray robe, but when you put it on, you felt completely refreshed.

He looked less youthful and naive, and more profound and dignified, appearing more composed and mature.

Looking at his radiant reflection in the mirror, Pei Ze's lips curled up slightly.

From today onwards, he is also a wizard apprentice!

After admiring himself for a while, Pei Ze took out the booklet and began to carefully read through it.

After being promoted to a first-level wizard apprentice, students no longer have fixed courses. All courses are completely flexible, and students can freely choose the courses they want to attend.

And all courses are free.

This is especially important for ordinary students.

It is said that during the Dark Ages tens of thousands of years ago, due to the scarcity of wizards, wizard apprentices had to spend magic stones to purchase courses in order to receive knowledge from their teachers.

Many wizarding apprentices who are not wealthy enough have to devote a lot of energy to earning magic stones, and even risk their lives to fight ferocious beasts for this.

In that era of fierce competition, the effort, energy, and time required for a wizard apprentice to advance to become a wizard is unimaginable to people today!

Even in the early days of the Wizarding Era, the practice of charging for courses remained unchanged.

It wasn't until the number of wizards exploded and the teaching staff became more and more abundant that the free course system was gradually promoted.

Unfortunately, the free course didn't help Pei Ze much.

With his omniscient eye, he acquired knowledge much more easily and quickly than others.

In this respect, even formal wizards may not be as good as him.

If he didn't want to attract too much attention, he could have easily skipped class.

As he continued reading, Pei Ze raised an eyebrow.

Apart from the free courses, everything else, such as spell models and various herbs and materials, must be purchased with money, and the prices are not cheap.

For example, a single dose of the Spirit Herb, which can enhance meditation, costs as much as 5 gold coins.

A model of the lowest-tier, zero-circle spell "Hand of the Mage" costs a whopping 20 gold!

It's worth noting that the monthly salary of an ordinary worker in the outer city is only 30 to 50 silver coins, while an outstanding skilled worker can earn around 80 silver coins.

Even if a worker saved up his wages for more than half a year without eating or drinking, it would only be enough to buy one Spirit-Nourishing Grass.

Ordinary people simply cannot afford it!

"No wonder they say wizards are all black holes that devour gold."

Pei Ze frowned.

He only has a little over thirty gold coins left, which is the small amount of savings he brought from the inner city.

This amount of money is enough to cover daily living expenses, but it's a drop in the bucket to support a wizard's training; it's not even enough to buy two spell models.

However, as he continued reading, Pei Ze's brows gradually relaxed.

For students with limited resources, the academy also provides an alternative: earn contribution points by completing tasks, and then use those points to exchange for various resources.

This is undoubtedly good news for Pei Ze.

"Looks like I need to find a task to do."

"But before that, let's claim the free spell models first!"

After putting away the booklet, Pei Ze rushed to the logistics department.

Within the academy, the activity areas for regular students and wizard apprentices are separate.

The latter can freely enter the former's activity area, but the reverse is not true.

A thin layer of mist hung over the boundary between the two areas, through which the outlines of the buildings on the other side could only be vaguely seen.

A thin mist separated the world of ordinary people from that of wizards.

"If I didn't have an all-seeing eye, I would most likely be one of those separated."

Pei Ze was self-aware. Without the All-Seeing Eye to analyze the Will Rune, he would most likely have transferred to the Knight Academy, and his best outcome in this life would have been to become a knight. He would never have had any contact with the world of wizards.

Just as he was feeling sentimental, Pei Ze suddenly felt a gaze on him. He turned his head and met a pair of scarlet eyes.

A stone lion was lying on the ground more than ten meters away, staring intently at him without blinking.

Even when lying down, its height reaches the chest of an adult human male, creating a strong sense of pressure.

Pei Ze looked around and then discovered that every hundred meters or so in the mist, there was a stone lion crouching and guarding, clearly a guard specifically for this place.

"puppet!"

Pei Ze's eyes lit up slightly.

Wizards have four main side jobs: making golems, potions, scrolls, and enchanting.

These stone lions should, without any surprise, be puppet creations.

"Unfortunately, any of the four side professions require sufficient mental strength to learn, so don't even think about it before advancing to the second level of wizard apprentice."

Pei Ze was a little envious. If he could master any one of the four side businesses, making money would no longer be a problem.

Shaking his head, he dismissed his unrealistic ambitions and strode into the mist.

The stone lion not far away glanced at the apprentice badge on his chest, then turned its head and continued to sleep soundly.

As we passed through the fog, the view suddenly opened up, and the clamor of voices filled our ears.

Pei Ze looked around and found himself in a square, surrounded by people, all of whom were young men and women dressed in gray apprentice robes.

Those who can become wizard apprentices are usually physically stronger than ordinary people (the physical attribute of a normal adult male is 1), so everyone they see is full of energy and spirit.

It creates a scene where everyone is like a dragon.

Of course, this isn't necessarily true for formal wizards.

There are many wizards who have become neither human nor ghost due to accidental experiments.

It is said that the dean of the Tower Academy is a skeleton, the kind that has no flesh on its body.

Every year, unsuspecting freshmen are terrified by the dean, who likes to take walks at night, thinking they have encountered a ghost.

After leaving the square, Pei Ze searched all the way and soon arrived at a building with a sign that read "Logistics Department".

He walked straight into the first office and said to an elderly man with gray hair who was engrossed in writing on documents, "Hello, I'm here to collect the spell model."

Upon hearing the voice, the old man looked up and sized up Pei Ze a few times, his gaze then falling on the apprentice badge on his chest, a glint of light flashing in his eyes.

"Pei Ze, right?"

The old man nodded slightly, and with a flick of his finger, a piece of A4-sized paper floated up from the desk and drifted towards Pei Ze.

"Here is a list of spell models. Choose one."

Pei Ze thanked him, took the list, and began to browse through it carefully.

A first-level wizard apprentice can only learn zero-ring spells, and there are more than twenty on the list, which is almost the same as the information he had previously learned.

Pei Ze had already decided on the spell he would learn at the beginning. After looking at it for a while, he said, "I choose Mage's Hand."

The Mage's Hand, as the name suggests, is the creation of an invisible, ghostly hand that can change size and shape at will.

It can be used to attack enemies or to manipulate objects to complete simple tasks. It is highly practical and has a wide range of applications, making it most suitable for first-level wizard apprentices.

Over 99% of first-level wizard apprentices choose Wizard Hand as their first spell.

"Are you sure you want to choose this?" the old man asked routinely.

"Confirmed!" Pei Ze said.

The old man nodded, then flicked his finger again, and a book flew out from the bookshelf in the corner of the office, drifting towards Pei Ze.

Pei Ze took the book, then took out the gold coins Zhou Han had given him, handed them to the old man, and said, "I'd like to choose another spell model."

The old man paused slightly, took the gold coin and glanced at it. He flicked the surface of the coin with his index finger, and a silver dot suddenly appeared, quickly outlining a name: Zhou Han.

"Arcane Mark." Pei Ze recognized the zero-ring spell.

This spell can use special means and energy fluctuations to engrave personal symbols or marks on any object without damaging it, even metal or stone.

"It is indeed Zhou Han's mark. You can choose another spell model for free."

The old man gave Pei Ze a deep look.

The teachers in the academy are all formal wizards, and the vast majority of wizards are extremely realistic beings who believe in equivalent exchange and will not easily help students without compensation.

The student in front of me had only recently advanced to the level of wizard apprentice. He was clearly not from a wizarding family and his talent was not particularly outstanding. I wonder how he managed to gain Zhou Han's favor and receive help from him using his mentor privileges.

Despite his doubts, the old man didn't ask any further questions and gestured for Pei Ze to continue making his selections.

This time, Pei Ze chose the stun spell.

After receiving the book, Pei Ze spent 30 gold coins to buy 6 Spirit-Nourishing Grass leaves before leaving the office and heading straight to the library.

He couldn't wait to start learning magic!
