Douluo Dalu II: The Peerless Tang Sect
Chapter 23: Self-created Soul Skill and the Zhu Clan's Five Scythes!
Chapter 23 Self-created Soul Skill and the Five Scythes of the Zhu Clan!
After reading nearly a thousand theoretical books on soul skills and martial souls, Zhu Ziyang gradually summarized three levels of self-created soul skills.
The first level is the expansion and innovation based on soul rings and soul skills. This is the simplest, and any soul master who is proficient enough in their own soul skills can do it. Generally speaking, this level is not considered as creating soul skills by advanced soul masters.
The second level is based on the development and creation of the characteristics and abilities of the Martial Soul. This requires the Soul Master to have a deep understanding and control over their Martial Soul. Zhu Ziyang is currently in this stage.
The final level involves abilities created solely through the training and research of one's own soul power, mental strength, or physical strength, transcending soul skills and martial souls. These abilities are known as combat techniques. Once created, such combat techniques become top-tier inheritances that can be passed down through generations, the most typical example being the Chaotic Cloak Hammer Technique of the Clear Sky Sect! This is undoubtedly the rarest; in the entire history of the Douluo Continent, only a handful of people have achieved it. Zhu Ziyang is honored that he might one day meet one such person: Dragon God Douluo Mu En!
Zhu Ziyang had a very clear direction for the soul skill he wanted to create, which was to create a scythe technique.
To achieve this goal, Zhu Ziyang searched for thousands of notes and records of polearm weapon Soul Masters in the library, and then found many training manuals on polearm weapons in the army. Finally, after integrating a large number of basic combat techniques of polearms such as sickle, spear, lance, staff, club, knife, and halberd, he created the Eleven-Move Scythe Technique.
After nearly a year of refinement and polishing, these eleven sickle techniques were finally transformed into five sickle techniques, which he called the Zhu Family Five Scythes.
The first move is called the Yin-Yang Revolving Style. He wields his battle scythe, spinning it rapidly in his hand to form a circle, then throws it forcefully at its peak speed, transforming it into a boomerang. Along its trajectory, the battle scythe will generate an attractive force, pulling in and strangling nearby enemies. In Zhu Ziyang's final vision, the Yin-Yang Revolving Style will incorporate his power of light and death, forming a vortex of light and death with super-strong suction and destructive power.
Unfortunately, Zhu Ziyang can only skillfully use the first level at present, which is a spinning motion where he throws and retrieves a high-speed rotating scythe. He can barely use the second level, which incorporates the element of light. As for the third level, which incorporates the power of death, he is still in a theoretical state because his research and proficiency in the power of death is not high, let alone the simultaneous incorporation of the two powers.
This was the move that killed the Millennium Blazing Mantis.
The second move is called the Ninefold Chain Strike. This move primarily utilizes the blade of the war scythe, swinging it nine times at extremely high speed, each swing faster and more powerful than the last, ultimately overwhelming the enemy with all nine strikes. In Zhu Ziyang's vision, this ninth strike should be capable of cleaving through space itself. With Zhu Ziyang's current strength, he can only unleash a maximum of four strikes.
The third move is called the Half-Moon of Death. Zhu Ziyang leaps high into the air, gripping the Radiant Scythe tightly with both hands. He then violently swings the scythe through the air, creating a crescent-shaped blade of light that descends from the sky, shattering the enemy. In Zhu Ziyang's vision, this move also requires the fusion of the power of light and death, so that the crescent-shaped blade of light truly possesses the radiance of the moon of death, causing the enemy to wither away in sorrow. Zhu Ziyang can now unleash a crescent-shaped blade of light, with a power approximately one to two times that of his first soul skill. If the power of light is added, it can reach three to four times the power of his first soul skill.
The fourth move is called the Four-Directional Combined Strike. This is a defensive move that primarily utilizes the double-edged scythe, ring-shaped sub-blade, and spearhead of the Radiant Scythe for close-quarters defense and counter-attack. This move mainly tests Zhu Ziyang's proficiency with the war scythe weapon, and it is currently the move with the highest level of completion among the five Zhu family scythes.
The fifth and final move is called the "One Yuan Returns to the Source" move. Zhu Ziyang envisions this move as a fusion of all the soul skills of the Radiant Scythe, unleashing a powerful yet simple and unadorned strike. Currently, this move is still in Zhu Ziyang's mind, as he has not yet been able to fuse the power of light and the power of death.
The power of light and the power of death, while not as incompatible as ice and fire, or light and darkness, are absolutely unrelated and mutually repulsive. Their only commonality is their purifying abilities, but these abilities are vastly different. Zhu Ziyang has a long way to go before he can fuse these two powers.
The only thing he can refer to now is the Radiant Scythe, to see how it perfectly blends the powers of light and death together.
Alas, the task ahead is arduous and the road is long!
Zhu Ziyang sighed.
-
evening.
Zhu Ziyang, who had been practicing all day, was ready to go home.
He walked towards Beihe Village, but suddenly heard a low roar behind him. Zhu Ziyang was startled, then turned around and saw that the roar was coming from deep within the back mountain.
Out of curiosity, Zhu Ziyang decided to go and see.
The back mountain of Beihe Village is located on the outermost edge of the northern mountain range, bordering the far northern ice plains. Every year, spirit beasts from the outer regions would venture in, so City Lord Hong Zhen would lead people into the area annually to drive away these intruding spirit beasts and prevent them from harming the villagers in nearby villages. Logically speaking, the spirit masters of Anyang City had just cleared the area of the back mountain a month ago; it shouldn't be possible for spirit beasts to have already entered so quickly!
Zhu Ziyang was very puzzled, but in order to prevent any villagers from getting hurt, he decided to go and see.
He was confident that he could handle any soul beast within ten thousand years of its age, and even if he couldn't defeat a soul beast older than ten thousand years, he could still escape.
However, how could a soul beast with a cultivation level of over ten thousand years be willing to come to the back mountain? The resources and environment in the back mountain are so bad that even a thousand-year-old soul beast would probably look down on it, let alone a ten-thousand-year-old soul beast. Only some hundred-year-old soul beasts like to come here.
That's why Zhu Ziyang dared to act so boldly.
Soon, following the roar, Zhu Ziyang arrived at a small cave only a hundred meters away from his cultivation place. Because the entrance was blocked by leaves, Zhu Ziyang had not noticed it until now.
As he approached the cave entrance, the roar became clearer. He could clearly hear a strong sense of weakness in the roar, which obviously came from a severely injured soul beast.
Zhu Ziyang immediately made a judgment: this should be a soul beast that was severely injured and had escaped to the back mountain. Judging from the roar, it should be a soul beast that is about a thousand years old.
He decided to go in and take a look.
Parting the leaves at the entrance of the cave, he revealed an opening barely large enough for a six-year-old child. For Zhu Ziyang, who was nearly 1.7 meters tall, it was clearly too small. He would have to bend over to get in. Looking down, he saw dried bloodstains on the ground at the entrance, stretching all the way into the dark cave.
After thinking for a moment, Zhu Ziyang bent down and stepped into the cave. The entrance to the cave was small, and the space inside was also small. It didn't seem to be naturally formed; it looked more like it had just been dug out. Zhu Ziyang walked about three or four meters before the cave reached its end. Further in was a slightly larger cavern, but Zhu Ziyang dared not go in any further.
To be precise, his legs were so weak he almost collapsed to his knees. He had only one thought: run, run!
What did he see?
