Chapter 96 The Farce and the Final Reward

Chapter 96 The Farce and the Final Reward

"Another group of people are coming to their deaths."

A hint of annoyance flashed in Wayne's eyes as he watched the Holopol militia advancing through the forest.

If it weren't for concerns about the consequences, he wouldn't have cared at all whether Borch would kill these foolish humans.

I don't know what these idiots were thinking. With their scrap metal, they thought they could kill a dragon that can fly in the sky.

Do they have anti-air capabilities? Facing a giant aerial dragon that can spew fire, wouldn't they be sitting ducks?

Of course, Wayne also knew that he couldn't really blame these greedy guys. After all, they thought they were going to deal with a dying green dragon. They never expected that not only was the green dragon almost recovered, but they would also have to deal with an extremely rare and powerful golden dragon that could cast spells.

He patted the neck of the green dragon Milgatabrek, who had become Borch's wife. The green dragon was probably still not used to being ridden by a human, and twisted its neck to look at Wayne, letting out an angry whimper.

If Wayne hadn't been her savior and her husband's friend, this dragon probably would never have let the Witcher ride on her neck.

Wayne gave the green dragon a kind smile and whispered in its ear:

"Take me to your husband. We must tell him that a group of ill-intentioned people are approaching him."

Upon hearing this, the green dragon exhaled a breath of hot air, glanced back at the baby dragon being fed roasted meat by Yennefer in her arms by the fire, and seemed a little worried.

Seeing this, Wayne immediately explained:

"Don't worry, Milgatabrek, I've reached an agreement with this woman; she won't harm your child."

As he spoke, he turned to look at Yennefer and asked:

"Is that right, Ms. Yennefer?"

Yennefer casually teased the adorable little dragon in her arms, her legs, bound by the magic-blocking golden chains, curled up, and responded with a slightly sarcastic "hmm":

"I'm just a prisoner, Mr. Wayne. As long as you keep your promise to me, I won't be so ungrateful as to ask for trouble."

Wayne chuckled, said goodbye, and then, surrounded by a gust of wind, flew with the green dragon toward Borch's location.

Jinlong was still immersed in the joy of victory and did not notice the dangers lurking in the forest behind him.

If he hadn't been told, Borch might have ended up getting caught in the militia's fishing nets and injured, just like in the original story, because he couldn't take off in time.

A dozen minutes later, Wayne reunited with him, and after a brief exchange, the Borch couple took flight and headed towards the forest behind them.

While the Holober militia were advancing through the dense forest, hoping to use the trees for cover and launch a surprise attack, and indulging in fantasies of making a fortune, two giant dragons suddenly descended from the sky and launched a fierce attack on them.

Fortunately, the golden dragon Borchi was a compassionate and righteous dragon. He simply used flames to set off the militiamen and used the fire in the forest to disperse the greedy militiamen.

Otherwise, according to the green dragon's idea, these guys who came to hunt her would definitely be slaughtered.

With the collapse of this last wave of enemies and the arrival of the Zerekan warriors, this massive and labor-intensive dragon hunt was drawing to a close.

………………

After the battle ended, it was dusk. The forest fires had been extinguished, and the entire Great Kestrel Mountains had returned to calm.

Beside the campfire outside the Green Dragon's lair, Borch held his child and chatted with Wayne with a broad smile.

Sitting beside him were Geralt, Dandelion, Dorrigare, Wayne, and the sorceress Yennefer. Oh, and there was also the unconscious Knight Ekko, who had been carried to an open space not far away.

The group sat around the fire, enjoying the food Wayne had cooked and drinking several bottles of the wine he had brought. They were all busy with their own things or chatting quietly.

It was as if the great battle just a few hours ago was nothing but a fantasy.

The dwarf Yarpan and his men had been captured by the warriors of the Zerekan tribe and were now presumably waiting anxiously for their fate.

The green dragon Milgatabrek, disliking these humans, retreated back into his lair.

Perhaps he is also packing up his treasure, and after everything is over, he will go to live in the Kingdom of Zerekan with Borchi.

Geralt carefully fed Yennefer a bowl of broth. Because he was worried about the sorceress's extreme personality, Wayne did not remove the magic-blocking chains from her feet. At this moment, the sorceress was hanging her head, perhaps angry.

Dandelion, on the other side of the fire, was quite excited. After the magical experience of the past two days, he was inspired and was holding his lute, humming several beautiful melodies over and over again.

Meanwhile, the magician Garidore seemed to have transformed into a professional scholar, engrossed in writing various things on a parchment, occasionally glancing up at Borch with a fanatical look in his eyes.

"Thank you for your help, my friend. You did a great job completing your request."

Borch laughed heartily, extremely happy; today's battle gave him an unprecedented sense of exhilaration.

He stroked the baby dragon's head and said with a smile:

"I have never experienced fighting for my family before, and it fills me with immense satisfaction."

"I will personally deliver the payment to you in a few days when we pass through Vijma, is that alright?"

"I haven't figured out how to repay your help yet."

Ding! The quest chain "Husband's Dignity" has been completed. Quest settlement.

Rewards: +1 Ability Point, 1 Master Chest, 1 Expert Chest, 315 Experience Points.

Hearing the system's reward, Wayne smiled, but felt a pang of emotion. In truth, he hadn't done much in this dragon-hunting operation.

Aside from the initial fire that forced King Niedamir to retreat, the most intense incident was the kidnapping of the sorceress Yennefer, the most unstable element in the demon hunter team.

Throughout the mission, it was actually Borch himself who participated in the most battles; he mostly just offered suggestions and provided ideas and intelligence.

However, the rewards for Master-level missions are truly generous. Not to mention the Master-level treasure chests that haven't been opened yet, the reward of one ability point is only 315 experience points, which is more than 100 times that of ordinary missions, enough for him to level up half a level.

He smiled and nodded at Borch, saying:

"Of course, no problem, my friend. I'm really looking forward to your reward."

Borch sighed with some regret and said:

"Unfortunately, I can't stay away for too long. The tribe's warriors are waiting for me to come home, and my wife needs further treatment."

"Otherwise, I really want to go back to your home, to Vijma, to enjoy the delicious food you cook, to visit the brothel, to buy things, and to have fun with you. The time we spent together was truly wonderful."

Wayne, upon hearing this, echoed his sentiments, saying:

"I also really enjoy the time I spend with you, Borch. You are a generous friend who is never stingy with money."

"However, there's still a long time ahead. When you come to my house again in a few days, I'll prepare a gift for you."

"A gift that will ensure you're never lonely again when you return to Zerekham."
