Chapter 71 Tentacle Monster

After taking down several merfolk at the entrance, Wayne didn't rush into the cave but waited outside for a few minutes.

Only after confirming that no more murlocs rushed out to provide support did he feel a slight sense of relief.

This was also because his sword speed was too fast. The six merfolk didn't even have time to call for support or react much before they were killed.

Otherwise, he would likely face an attack from a dozen or even dozens of merfolk.

Wayne wiped the blood off his silver sword, then went to the lake to wash away the fish-man's foul-smelling blood before slowing his pace and entering the cave.

As he stealthily made his way through the cave, his iron boots clattered softly on the ground, sounding somewhat harsh in the cave.

Unfortunately, he had not learned any real stealth techniques, nor was he a professional assassin. Even if he could detect his own voice, he couldn't think of a better way to deal with it.

To avoid alerting the merfolk inside the cave, the only thing to do is slow down and use your keen hearing to detect the enemy's movements in advance.

The cave was very damp, with moss covering the walls and ceiling. There was also little light, and perhaps because of its proximity to the lake, there were even traces of water on the ground.

Wayne cautiously advanced several dozen meters, but before he could find any other fishermen, he suddenly realized that the water on the ground was already above his ankles, and not far away was a slope submerged by the lake.

Judging from the depth of the lake, if we continue forward, we will most likely have to enter the lake directly.

Seeing this, Wayne did not back down. Instead, he gritted his teeth, held the Banshee Amulet given to him by Elder Druid Cairnster in his hand, and infused it with chaotic magic, activating the amulet.

As a peculiar magical power emanated from the amulet, a transparent magical shield appeared on his body, about six or seven centimeters from the surface, pushing away all the lake water that approached him.

Only breathable air is left to circulate inside the protective shield.

Wayne took a breath of air from inside the shield. There was nothing wrong with it. This was the second time he had used the Human-Faced Demon Bird Amulet.

The first time I used it, I only tested its function in the river and didn't study it in depth. But I thought that a kind elder like Cairnster would not harm his savior.

With a somewhat apprehensive heart, Wayne sheathed his silver sword back into its scabbard at his waist, removed his chainmail and iron boots, and stored them in his storage bag, leaving only a layer of leather armor.

Then he took out the crossbow he had won from O. Henry, along with a meteorite dagger and a dozen bolts, from his storage bag.

Underwater combat is not like combat on land. Due to the resistance of the water flow, the flexibility of many movements is greatly reduced. If you go down wearing iron armor, even with the strength of a Witcher, you will probably only sink to the bottom. Long weapons like silver swords will also be severely weakened and are not as convenient as daggers or crossbows.

Having made all the preparations, Wayne no longer hesitated, took a deep breath, and plunged into the icy lake water.

The underwater light was still dim, and the depth was about ten meters. However, thanks to the cat's eye drops, the surrounding environment was still clearly reflected in his eyes.

Aquatic plants, scattered rocks, various underwater creatures, and fish swimming around create a bizarre and wonderful landscape.

As Wayne swam deeper into the cave, he intently observed the enemy's movements. Unexpectedly, he found no trace of enemy activity, but instead discovered the half-fish people sleeping underwater.

There are quite a few; looking around, there are probably about ten.

They lay casually on the rocks at the bottom of the water, some with their bellies up, others with their backs exposed, probably not believing that any enemies could enter these waters to attack them. They would occasionally spit out a bubble or two from their mouths, appearing completely unguarded.

After considering for a few seconds, Wayne did not launch a surprise attack, but instead tried to see if he could bypass them and continue forward.

Fighting these monsters underwater is clearly not a good option.

At this point, the benefits of the Human-Faced Demon Bird Amulet become apparent. This amulet not only provides the ability to breathe underwater, but also enhances the swimmer's speed.

Wayne only needed to maintain a small swimming motion to move his body underwater. After a series of careful maneuvers, he finally swam safely over the heads of those half-fish people.

Seven or eight minutes later, after passing through an underwater area that was over a hundred meters long, as the water level continued to drop, a strange light appeared in front of Wayne.

He carefully swam to the surface and discovered that a few dozen meters away was a much more spacious cavern.

The cave was quite flat, and every few dozen meters along the walls hung a torch. Some half-merfolk guards leaned against the walls, standing by the torches, their wakefulness or sleep unknown.

In the center of the cave, there is an altar that is several tens of centimeters above the ground. The corpses of some aquatic creatures are randomly piled on the altar. Judging from the wounds on their bodies, they must have been drained of blood.

Wayne frowned upon seeing this, but did not make any rash moves. Instead, he found a secluded spot, climbed back onto the ground, and quietly put his Wolf School armor back on.

After he finished dressing, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Against these poorly armed merfolk, a piece of chainmail with decent defense was basically enough to achieve a dimensional reduction attack. Weapons like bone spears, wooden clubs, or rusty iron tools would have a hard time penetrating the defense of metal chainmail.

Drawing his silver sword again, Wayne carefully observed the environment inside the cave, then cautiously walked along the wall without making much noise.

His main purpose in coming here was to rescue Lala's brother, the little earth spirit Fizz. He didn't want to cause any unnecessary trouble if he could avoid a battle.

The cave was quite large, but the number of merfolk guards was relatively small. Under the cover of darkness, Wayne, with his keen observation skills, successfully bypassed the observation range of many guards and quietly made his way to the back of the cave altar.

Behind the altar was a smaller cave, where six strong merfolk guarded the exit. They were armed with iron weapons and wore simple metal armor, clearly elite members of the merfolk.

In the center of the cave, eight enormous braziers, containing some kind of oil, were arranged in a circle and burning.

In the center of these braziers, a horrifying scene made Wayne gasp.

In a circular pool about four or five meters wide, there was a blackish-red, foul-smelling blood. In this blood, some ugly-looking creatures covered with tentacles, like octopuses, were swimming.

In addition, in the center of this blood pool, there are six wooden pillars, and six humanoid creatures are tied to the pillars with hemp ropes.

These humanoid creatures were completely naked and tied to pillars, unable to move. One by one, octopus monsters the size of washbasins crawled onto their bodies, and then, like facehuggers, wrapped their heads with their tentacles, slowly wriggling as if performing some kind of evil ritual, which looked extremely terrifying.

Judging from their exposed skin and figures, the six people included dwarves, elves, and humans. One of them, with purple skin and a colorful conch shell around his neck, immediately caught Wayne's attention.

Without a doubt, this is Lala's older brother, the little earth spirit Fizz.

However, judging from his current state, he seems to be oblivious to his fate, as if those tentacle monsters have done something to him.

Rescuing him in full view of everyone would obviously be quite difficult.

Looking at the appearance of those tentacle monsters, Wayne guessed that they must be related to the evil god Dagon.
