Chapter 334 Matthias Shore
Chapter 334 Matthias Shore
Stormwind, Old Town.
Wayne, Lieutenant Webber, the mysterious officer, and Van Cleef, who is tied up in a ball.
The four men walked one after the other, with Lieutenant Webber carrying Van Cleef on his back. After receiving some basic treatment, the notorious robber had regained consciousness. However, due to his severe injuries and being bound like a mummy, he could only watch helplessly as he was carried like a piece of merchandise through the winding alleys of the old town, finally stopping in front of an old house.
After knocking on the door in a specific rhythm and following the given password, the door was opened.
The middle-aged officer did not enter the house. Instead, a female intelligence officer wearing a mask and gray leather armor opened the door and led Wayne and the others into the house.
To Wayne's surprise, the structure of this old house was no different from that of an ordinary house. The slender female intelligence agent led several people through the house for dozens of meters before arriving at a relatively spacious room, where a rather thin figure was already waiting.
Hearing the sound of several people walking, the man turned around, revealing the face of a rather ordinary middle-aged man.
He had short, light blonde hair, a short stubble beard, dull eyes, and no particularly striking features; he was the kind of person who would be completely unremarkable on the street.
However, Wayne had a vague feeling that although this person looked thin, his physical strength must be quite formidable, and judging from his breathing and demeanor, he was very much in line with the characteristics of an assassin.
After the group met, the female intelligence officer who had led the way did not speak. Instead, she exchanged a few seconds of words with the middle-aged man standing in the room through unidentified gestures before quickly leaving.
After the female intelligence officer left, the middle-aged man looked at Wayne and the other two with his gloomy eyes.
Lieutenant Webber may not have felt anything, but Wayne could. In just a second or two, the man's gaze had already taken in their situation, including their height, weight, the location of their weapons, and their vital organs.
Out of a soldier's instinct, Wayne's body almost immediately sprang into a defensive posture.
"I am Shaw, an officer in Intelligence Division Seven."
"This is indeed Edmund VanCleef, a wanted criminal in Stormwind and the leader of the Defias Brotherhood."
"Lieutenant Wayne, I remember you were Major Gengsett's second-in-command. The day before yesterday, you received orders to escort a shipment of military supplies to Sentinel's Territory."
"Were you attacked by Van Cleef while on escort duty?"
Although it wasn't anything particularly difficult to guess, the man named Shaw quickly figured out the gist of the matter.
Upon hearing his name, Wayne probably already knew who this person was.
Matthias Shaw, the master assassin, leader of SI:7, one of King Varian of Stormwind's most trusted subordinates, and the future head of almost the entire Alliance's intelligence organization.
He is considered a rather outstanding character in the world of Azeroth.
Perhaps Stormwind is not yet the Alliance's dominant city, and MI7 does not wield the immense power it will in the future, but even now, MI7 enjoys a special status in Stormwind.
Upon hearing Shaw's question, Lieutenant Weber did not hide anything and recounted the whole story in a concise manner.
When Shaw heard that Wayne not only had a terrifying dragon-like beast companion that was almost ten meters tall, but also that he was able to detect VanCleef's sneak attack and defeat the great bandit in a very short time, he immediately cast a strange look at him, as if he had not expected that the person who came to him this time was such a powerful adventurer.
However, the master assassin didn't say much. After learning the situation from Lieutenant Webber, he pondered for a few seconds, then said in a rather cold voice:
"Okay, thank you for your hard work, Lieutenant Weber. I understand the situation."
"We'll handle Van Cleef's matter from now on."
He turned to look at Wayne, nodded slightly to the Witcher, and continued:
"Since this adventurer has just arrived in Stormwind, then you should take good care of this warrior on behalf of our military."
"The military has issued a bounty of eighty gold coins for Van Cleef. In addition, he helped you defeat the bandits who came to raid you. I will inform His Majesty to bestow a generous reward upon this warrior."
"Take him to a hotel in town first; the bonus should be delivered before dinner."
After saying that, Shaw nodded to Wayne again and said:
"Welcome, Mr. Wayne, adventurer. Things have been rather unsettled around Stormwind lately, and there are a lot of quests that require skilled adventurers to handle."
"If you are willing to contribute to this city, you will not only receive a generous reward, but also the respect of the people."
"Well then, good luck."
After a brief exchange, the master assassin named Shaw quickly led Van Cleef away from the old house. Clearly, this was not MI7's actual location, but at most a temporary safe haven.
After leaving, Lieutenant Webber, following Shaw's orders, took Wayne on a tour of Stormwind City, then brought him to a decent inn to rest. They arranged to have dinner together that evening and discussed the bounty payment before he left.
For Wayne, this was his second visit to the city in three years. The last time he came here, he spent a lot of gold coins to buy many magical items at the Boul Auction House, including a very useful Hearthstone and a high-level healing potion that could almost be used as a life-saving potion.
This time, Wayne's purpose in coming to Stormwind City again was still quite clear: there were too many good things in the world of Azeroth. Many of the items and technologies here would be a game-changer if they were brought to the Wizarding World.
So before dinner, Wayne's first destination was the bookstore in Stormwind.
Knowledge is wealth, and this statement holds true in any world. Moreover, he has a witch who loves reading by his side. In any case, buying books first upon entering the city is definitely the right choice.
After leaving the inn, Wayne asked some passersby for directions and arrived at Klein Bookstore, the largest bookstore in Stormwind.
This is a shop located near the cathedral. The storefront is not particularly large, and the decoration is not luxurious. However, once you enter the bookstore, you are greeted by hundreds of books, neatly arranged on a dozen or so bookshelves, which is pleasing to the eye.
To Wayne's surprise, the bookstore was quite busy.
Besides the two well-dressed middle-aged men, there was also a slender, beautiful young woman in a priest's robe standing next to a bookshelf, carefully reading a book.
The owner of this bookstore was an elderly man dressed in a monk's robe and wearing transparent glasses.
Clearly, books containing knowledge were a very precious commodity in the Middle Ages, even in the magical world of Azeroth.
Whether it's the seller or the buyer, people without considerable financial resources probably wouldn't dare to enter a bookstore.
