Chapter 239 Silver Armor Knight
Chapter 239 Silver Armor Knight
Deathclaw truly lives up to its reputation as a terrifying monster that withstands powered mechs with its bare body in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The dire wolves, originally known for their ferocity and cruelty, all became mere pawns in the face of this enormous beast. Despite being a pack of twenty or thirty dire wolves, far outnumbering their opponent, they worked together to besiege Deathclaw.
But from a distance, it looks like Deathclaws are frantically slaughtering a group of bewildered little mice.
Even the sharp teeth that the dire wolves are so proud of have no effect on Deathclaw's skin. They cannot penetrate its defenses at all, and not even a bite mark can be seen. On the contrary, some dire wolves break their own sharp teeth due to the difference in the angle of their bite.
Deathclaw Robin opened his blood-red maw at the dire wolf pack and let out a deafening roar, which made the three dire wolves at the front tremble and instinctively curl up, forgetting to take cover.
Then they were attacked by the Deathclaw. The huge, sharp claws slammed into the back of a dire wolf. With a cracking sound of bones breaking, the dire wolf was smashed so badly that its internal organs burst out. It didn't even have time to howl before it was turned into mincemeat.
Robin's other paw lashed out, grabbing a half-orc and a dire wolf in one go. Then, as if eating fruit, he squeezed out the juice and shoved it into the gaping maw.
They ate directly from their mouths, which were covered in red blood and bits of flesh, making it both bloody and filthy.
Perhaps it was the long-dormant savagery that was finally unleashed. As it chewed on the filthy corpse, Deathclaw let out an excited howl, causing the surrounding orcs and dire wolves to tremble in fear.
This scene was also witnessed by Wayne, who was flying in the sky.
He couldn't help but frown, letting out a sharp roar. Then he pulled back the Dragon's Roar Bow, and a huge steel arrow shot out, instantly pinning an orc and his dire wolf to the ground.
Upon hearing its master's voice, Deathclaw, who had been extremely excited about being able to kill to its heart's content, suddenly became like a scolded child, its majestic and domineering expression wilting somewhat.
It spat out the corpse it had just bitten into its mouth with a smack, and then began to slaughter the surrounding dire wolves with both hands and feet.
Besides their sharp, powerful forelimb claws and strong jaws capable of crushing steel, the Deathclaw's most formidable weapon is their thick, barbed tail.
After seven or eight dire wolves and orcs were casually slaughtered by Deathclaw as if they were being toyed with, the leading orc leader knew that he and his men could not defeat this terrifying beast head-on. They all hoped to use the dire wolves' agility to have some of them draw Deathclaw's attention in front, while others would quietly circle around to Deathclaw's back and launch a sneak attack.
However, something even more despairing happened. Deathclaw Robin's thick tail, nearly three meters long and covered with sharp barbs, was like a steel scythe. Whenever a dire wolf approached its back, this tail would, as if it had a mind of its own, transform into a blur and instantly lash out at the dire wolf, sending this ferocious beast flying and smashing it into a bloody pulp. It even cut the dire wolf's body in two due to the excessive force.
Such terrifying destructive power immediately frightened the orcs and dire wolves, and also made them realize that this terrifying behemoth was a perfect killing machine, and was simply beyond their ability to deal with.
However, by this time it was already too late. In less than five minutes, the Deathclaw had killed more than half of the thirty-odd dire wolves and a dozen orcs.
Those who tried to escape because they sensed something was wrong were simply no match for Wayne's superb archery skills from mid-air.
By the time Thorin, Gandalf, and the other dwarves arrived, the battle was nearing its end.
The grass was littered with bloody corpses, half of which had been smashed into pieces by Deathclaw's powerful claws, while the other half had been cut in two by its sharp tail.
Even the dire wolves and orcs that escaped were all turned into ghosts by Wayne's archery skills. They were all pinned to the ground by huge steel arrows, along with their dire wolves, turning into statues of death.
This horrific scene not only shocked the dwarven warriors who had participated in various battles, but also the most tragic figure was Bilbo, who had never participated in any battle.
The peace-loving hobbit was so frightened by the scene that he almost fainted. Supported by a dwarf named Bobo, he kept pressing his hand to his chest and gasping for breath to calm himself down.
After witnessing Wayne and his pet Deathclaw Robin's combat prowess, everyone present no longer doubted the strength of this human adventurer. This strength had surpassed that of ordinary warriors and was probably comparable to the powerful figures in legendary tales.
Without Wayne and Robin, their expedition team would probably have been forced to flee desperately against such a large number of orcs and dire wolves, with no chance of defeating these enemies.
Radagast, who had just met up with Gandalf, looked surprised, scratched his bird-dropping-covered hair, and asked Gandalf:
"Who is this human? And what kind of creature is the beast with him?"
"I've been in the forest for so long, but I've never seen such a beast before. I'm afraid even the offspring of those evil gods wouldn't be a match for this behemoth."
Gandalf stroked his beard, looking Deathclaw up and down with astonishment. The beast's appearance reminded him of dragons and lizards.
Its formidable fighting power is such that even Gandalf, who has lived for an unknown amount of time, had to admit that, apart from certain powerful beasts created by the Creator God, Deathclaw's fighting power is probably among the top twenty.
Just as the squad members were marveling at this, Wayne flew down from the sky, reached out and grabbed the only orc who still had a complete body from the ground. He grabbed the orc by the scruff of his neck like he was grabbing an old dog, and threw the struggling orc in front of the dwarves, or more precisely, in front of Gandalf.
Wayne jumped off the magic carpet and placed one foot on the orc's chest. The immense force made the orc almost unable to breathe, his eyes filled with the fear of death.
"This is a prisoner I left behind. Do you have any questions about the orcs, Gandalf?"
Before Gandalf could answer, Thorin said with a serious expression:
"Don't waste your energy, Wayne. Orcs speak a different language than us, and although they are despicable, they rarely betray their own kind. Many people have tried to get information from orcs, but all have failed."
"Why don't we just kill this scum now and turn this disgusting Oak into a corpse sooner?"
Wayne didn't refute this, but turned to Gandalf and asked the knowledgeable wizard:
"Can you understand the language of orcs, Gandalf?"
Gandalf stroked his beard, nodded, and said:
"Yes, the orcs speak Sindar, a language similar to that of the elves. Although there are some differences, I should be able to understand it."
Wayne nodded, then without any hesitation drew an Axii rune in the air with his finger. An invisible force instantly surged into the brain of the struggling orc, stopping his struggle, dilating his pupils, blanking out his expression, and putting him into a hypnotic state.
"He's under my spell. You can ask him about the orc pursuers. He can't lie or refuse to answer questions right now."
After hearing Wayne's words, not only Gandalf, but everyone present showed a surprised expression. They did not expect that in addition to his powerful combat abilities, Wayne could also use such magical magic.
However, Gandalf quickly realized what was happening and, without delay, asked several key questions, such as the location of the pursuers, the number of pursuers, and who their leader was.
A few minutes later, after the orc had answered all the questions and was no longer of any use, Wayne kicked him in the chest without expression, sending him flying seven or eight meters. He crashed into a rock like a rag doll, spitting blood and dying.
The others, however, paid no attention to this, all pondering the information they had just received with grave expressions.
The one leading the orcs in pursuit of the expedition team was none other than Azog, the orc king from the Misty Mountains and the mortal enemy of the Durin clan, the orc who had once killed Thorin's grandfather.
He led several hundred orcs, and their numbers were still growing. The expeditionary force simply couldn't contend with them. Of course, that was just what others thought; Wayne didn't think so.
Worse still, Azog has placed a hefty bounty on the dwarf prince Thorin. Not only the orcs here, but all the orc factions along the way to Lonely Mountain have received the bounty and are very likely to participate in the hunt for the expeditionary force.
The news weighed heavily on everyone's hearts. The journey had already been extremely dangerous and fraught with difficulties, and with the constant pursuit of orcs, they all doubted whether they could safely reach Lonely Mountain.
Just as everyone was immersed in this somewhat heavy news, Wayne suddenly spoke up:
"Azog, the Orc King, is just an Orc. Could he possibly be stronger than Smaug?"
When everyone looked at him, Wayne looked at Thorin and said:
"Prince Thorin, shall we add another condition to the contract?"
"Next time, after we see this so-called Azog, I'll help you capture him alive and bring him before you so you can take revenge yourself?"
"As for the reward, I've heard that the dwarves' treasure contains a metal called mithril. Mithril armor made from it is extremely sturdy and lightweight, making it a truly magical piece of equipment."
"If I help you capture Azog, the Turin clan will have to gift me ten sets of mithril armor. How about it?"
Upon hearing Wayne's question, Thorin frowned, initially unwilling to agree to the condition. He believed he could handle Azog without needing anyone else's help.
However, after seeing the worried expressions on his companions' faces, he considered for a few seconds, then nodded and said:
"Your suggestion is interesting, Wayne. I believe you have the ability to make it."
"However, you must bring Azog to me intact, not as a corpse."
"I will have a fair duel with him, I will defeat him, cut off his head, and avenge my grandfather and the dwarves of the Turin clan."
"If you can do that, I'm willing to amend the contract."
As Thorin finished speaking, Wayne heard the system notification again.
Ding! Quest triggered: [Capture Azog Alive] Master Level. Accept?
Wayne laughed heartily and nodded in agreement without hesitation. The other dwarves in the expedition team were also inspired by Thorin and Wayne's spirit and burst into laughter.
This Lonely Mountain mission has been incredibly worthwhile. So far, besides escorting the expedition team to Lonely Mountain, Wayne has also obtained two master-level missions and one epic-level mission from Thorin, totaling three high-level missions.
The most satisfying part is the mission to kill Smaug, which is currently the easiest epic mission for him to complete.
Kill Smaug
Level: Epic.
Quest: Slay the dragon Smaug.
Rewards: 3000 experience points, 1 epic treasure chest, +3 stats.
The task is simple, the rewards are generous, and it doesn't take too much time.
In Middle-earth, good and evil are opposed, and the tasks in this world are always so simple and clear, leaving no room for ambiguity, which is why Wayne likes it so much.
It's conceivable that as long as he persists in triggering missions, he will definitely obtain more high-level missions and reap continuous rewards during this months-long journey to the Lonely Mountain.
Just as the expedition team was laughing heartily, a thunderous sound of hooves and the slightly frightened neighing of horses suddenly came from the direction of the battlefield.
Along with this, everyone heard Deathclaw Robin's earth-shattering roar.
Upon hearing these sounds, Wayne's expression changed, and he left only one sentence for the rest of the team.
"I'll go check it out."
Then he piloted the magic flying carpet and flew towards Deathclaw.
He wasn't afraid that anyone could hurt Robin. With Deathclaw's current destructive power, it could basically kill any enemy it encountered.
This monster's terrifying appearance could easily arouse hostility from others. It would be bad if it caused a large number of casualties and triggered conflicts with other races.
The magic carpet was very fast. When Wayne flew back into the sky and looked at the location of Deathclaw, he immediately saw dozens of knights wearing silver-white armor, and even their horses were armored. They were cautiously surrounding Deathclaw.
They seemed to be hesitating whether to attack this terrifying behemoth.
Robin, on the other hand, was very obedient. Before receiving orders from his master Wayne, he did not show much hostility towards the tiny silver-armored knights in front of him. He simply stared at the creatures in front of him with his fierce, dragon-like vertical pupils, and his blood-red mouth full of sharp teeth would intentionally or unintentionally emit intimidating roars to show his terrifying fighting power.
There had been no conflict between the two sides, which relieved Wayne.
He piloted his magic flying carpet, and under the watchful eyes of the silver-armored knights, flew above Deathclaw's head. Looking down at the knight before him, he spoke:
"Who are you? Are you with these orcs?"
Upon hearing Wayne's voice, there was a few seconds of silence on the other end. Then, a tall knight wearing a mask and riding a handsome horse stepped out from the crowd.
He removed his helmet, revealing pointed ears and a handsome face, and looked up at Wayne standing on the magic carpet, a slight surprise on his face, before speaking:
"I am Elrond, the Elvenking of Rivendell, and we have come to hunt down the Orcs."
"Excuse me, sir, who are you?"
