Chapter 174 The Murderer Was Actually Him
Chapter 174 The Murderer Was Actually Him
The fat nobleman was slow, and although he was desperately trying to escape, his fat trembling from the intense movement, it was all in vain against Wayne, whose speed was top-notch even among witchers.
Even though they were hundreds of meters apart, Wayne only took a short time to rush in front of the fat nobleman, block his way, and scrutinize him with cold eyes.
With a face full of fat, gorgeous clothes, and a lewd look, he didn't look like a good person at all. Moreover, he was indeed one of the ministers who had been by the king's side when he met the king that morning.
His identity matches that of the character in the original work, so it seems he is the murderer.
Seeing no hope of escape, the fat nobleman's face turned extremely panicked. He looked at the demon hunter who had just been slaughtering everyone in front of him, stopped in his tracks, and while secretly thinking about how to escape, he shouted loudly and fiercely:
"Witcher, you lowly commoner, you monster! I am Baron Austert, a court minister! What are you doing stopping me? How dare you offend a nobleman! I will have your soldiers hang you!"
Hearing the obese nobleman reveal his name, Wayne became even more certain of his identity. Too lazy to waste words on such a doomed creature, and ignoring what else he wanted to say, he lunged forward and delivered a series of powerful punches to the man's nose, shoving all the foul language out of his mouth. The blows shattered the man's nose, causing him to vomit blood, see stars, and faint on the spot.
Wayne shook the blood off his hands. This was only after he had held back most of his strength; otherwise, he would have definitely beaten this guy to death with those punches.
Dragging Austrett's body like a dead dog, Wayne headed towards the new city of Vizima. However, he quickly realized that if he paraded through the city with this guy like this, given his status as a minister, he would likely attract the attention of the guards. Although it wouldn't be a big deal, it would still cause quite a bit of trouble.
After thinking for a moment, he took out the Invisibility Cloak from his magic-printed bag with some disgust, covered Australt's blood-covered body, and then dragged the now-transparent fat pig along, quickly heading towards the location of Vizima Palace.
After walking for about ten minutes, dragging the fat pig through several streets, he finally brought it to the entrance of the palace.
Because he had just come out of the palace that morning, the guards on duty at the gate recognized him, so Wayne did not encounter any obstacles and met Triss, who had been called out by the guards.
Although the sorceress was somewhat surprised by Wayne's return, she quickly walked to his side and asked softly:
"My dear, why are you back at the palace again? Is something the matter?"
Wayne didn't explain further, but simply leaned close to Triss's ear and whispered:
"I've caught the culprit who cast the curse. Take me to the living room where we talked this morning, and then inform His Majesty the King to report this matter."
Triss was taken aback, because when she left that morning, she hadn't heard Wayne mention the agreement with Foltest, and she didn't even know that there were other culprits behind the curse.
However, trusting her lover, Triss didn't say much. After exchanging a few words with the soldiers guarding the palace gates, she led Wayne into the palace.
As a royal advisor, she certainly has this much power.
Walking along the palace path, Wayne quietly explained a few words to Triss. When they arrived at the entrance to the reception room, the sorceress sighed, glanced at the person Wayne was dragging behind her in an awkward manner, and although she didn't know why that person was invisible, she couldn't help but ask:
"So who is the murderer? How could he have killed both the queen and the princess? His Majesty the King will certainly not let him get away with this, and his fate will be extremely tragic."
Wayne thought for a moment; he couldn't quite remember Austratt's name, but he still spoke up:
"It's the fat minister we saw this morning, the one next to the king, I think his name is O... Austryt."
Triss opened her mouth in surprise, but ultimately said nothing. She pushed open the living room door and said to Wayne:
"Go inside and wait. I'll go inform His Majesty the King; he should be here to see you soon."
Wayne nodded, went into the living room, found a chair, sat down, and waited quietly.
Less than five minutes later, amidst a series of slightly hurried footsteps, King Foltest, dressed in a magnificent royal robe, pushed open the wooden door and entered.
Upon seeing Wayne sitting in the chair, he stopped the Witcher from bowing, his eyes scanning the living room before he asked in a tone that suggested an impending outburst of anger:
"Witcher, where is the killer?"
Wayne stood up, bowed slightly, and then pulled open the invisibility cloak at his feet, revealing Austratt's obese body underneath.
Forgetting his surprise at the Invisibility Cloak, Foltest took a few steps forward, his gaze fierce as he stared at the unconscious Australt. He didn't make any rash moves, but instead spoke in a tone of doubt mixed with anger:
"It's him? Austridge, this guy has been my servant since he was very young, and then became my inner court minister for more than ten years."
Wayne's expression was calm, as if he were stating a fact, and he spoke in a measured tone:
"Your Majesty, before arriving at the palace, he attacked me outside the city with a dozen mercenaries. The evidence is conclusive."
"Moreover, I have already interrogated him. It is because he has been with you since he was very young that he fell in love with Queen Yalta from a very young age and harbored resentment towards you for marrying the Queen. Therefore, he cast this vicious curse out of love turned to hatred."
"Let the queen and the princess die together on the same day."
"And his conspiracy doesn't stop there; the resurrection of the vampire bird was also due to his curse."
"He hopes that the matter of the vampire bird will escalate, incite discontent among the common people and nobles, and then fan the flames to exacerbate the conflict between the royal family and others, attempting to overthrow your rule, seize your throne, and take revenge on you."
Of course, Auschwitz never said any of these things; these facts were truths that Wayne knew from the original work. But so what? In this magical world, the truth can be found even if you are dead. It cannot be denied by sophistry.
Moreover, Austridge was not a particularly clever person. Before suspicion was placed on him, no clues could be found. But once suspicion was placed on him, all of this guy's past actions came to light before King Foltest's eyes.
The king remained silent for several seconds, breathing heavily, his movements becoming increasingly violent, until finally, his eyes seemed to blaze with fury as he glared at Austrett on the ground and roared:
"Yes, that's the guy. He's always done things that raise suspicion, but I've always considered him a friend, a childhood friend, and I've never doubted him."
"But this bastard dared to betray me and hurt my family like this. I'm going to skin him alive and hang him on the city gate so everyone can see what will happen to him."
Wayne offered no comment on this behavior, but instead said:
"Your Majesty, now that the murderer has been caught, I suggest that you have Advisor Triss interrogate him again, so that you don't think I'm lying. Perhaps, you might even be able to find a list of nobles who might unite against you."
"I'll probably begin the exorcism of the curse tomorrow night, and no one should be able to stop this operation now."
"If you insist on watching, please arrange your time accordingly."
"Then, please allow me to take my leave, Your Majesty. I have some matters to prepare in advance."
King Foltest was silent for about ten seconds, then sat down in the wooden chair by the fireplace, looked at Wayne, and said:
"Go, Witcher. I trust your judgment. This guy must be the traitor."
"Also, deal with tomorrow's curse properly. As long as you can rescue my daughter, I will never forget my promise."
